C'mon, but if you use that argument, was Kid Icarus an icon on Nintendo's side? Or even Ice Climbers?
Saleswise they weren't, but they're still remembered. Just like Aya for those that grew up with Sony's consoles.
And of course that Lara might be a greater icon than Aya, but not as a PlayStation icon, just as a gaming icon.
 
I agree 100000000% with Stu on Lara Croft. Also i would say Cloud is just as important as she is in terms of defining PS imo
 
I suppose it's a bit far fetched to hope for Eliot from Intelligent Qube (Kurushi) to be a playable character but I'm already satisfied if there is a stage based on the game, could make for some interesting maneuvering during combat.

By whom?

I remember playing Tomb Raider on my PS1. They were heavily associated.

While I also remember playing PE. Neither it nor Aya Brea are an PlayStation iconic PS brand. The likes of Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Lara Croft and Snake are even though they've seen themselves on other hardware since.

that makes 0 sense, because older characters are what defined playstation. New playstation is mostly only Nathan Drake, Sackboy, Fat Princess, and Nariko :( and some others im missing

I'll be honest, I don't really care for the Smash Bros. type games but for whatever reason there is hype building in my bones for this.

(I want Cole from InFamous ... although he's got to be a sure thing.)

Aya made a return on the PSP.
 
Let's not get too excited for third party characters like Snake, Cloud etc. guys, let's just keep our hype leveled into a more possible scenario, like first party characters only.
 
I feel they will most likely go the safe route with the characters.

If the game is a success and there is a sequel, we'll probably get more third parties or lesser knowns.

Tomb Raider
Crash Bandicoot
Spyro the Dragon
Metal Gear Solid
Gran Turismo

These are the first- and third-party games that were quintessential to the success of the PS1. Comparatively Parasite Eve was an awesome part of the software library, but the general public don't remember the original PS for Parasite Eve.

Maybe Sony doesn't want to pay the money to have these third party characters? Especially considering it's a new title, with a new development team? Don't get me wrong, I would love these characters in it but....I prefer not getting my hopes up!

That's precisely why I want her in the game :) It would be a missed oppertunity if a title like this only includes the most popular.

That is one of the things people love most about SSMB, it's a celebration of all things Nintendo, as deep in the company culture as you could possibly want to go, there is something for those people. It would be interesting to see Sony follow in that sense.

I did say mostly.

Out of all those Parappa is the most classic PlayStation.
I just never loved the others but they are definitley PS Brand. I guess Killzone too.

I guess when I really think about it, Classic PlayStation was mostly third party.
 
I hope its more like brawl, then say a 1 on 1 fighter like street fighter. And I hope Sora and some Final Fantasy people are in it.

3 hours to go? I think I'll just wake up to the news.
