WOW

Absolutely loved it. Felt like a kid watching it (i'm 29). I clapped, I laughed out loud and I cheered- this is not normal behaviour for me.

Every character had great moments and left their mark in their own unique way.

See this movie!

Has the Rotten Tomatoes consensus been posted yet?

With a script that never forgets its heroes' humanity and no shortage of superpowered set pieces, The Avengers lives up to its hype -- and raises the bar for Marvel at the movies.

I've always wondered who writes these and how they come up with them.

Yeah saw this last night and it blew away my expectations. It had some expected comic book movie cheese, but made up for it by being funny, having great action sequences and just being an awesome superhero spectacle.

Definitely better than all of the individual heroes' movies, maybe except Iron Man 1.

Also I now want a new Hulk movie, Mark Ruffalo was great as Bruce Banner.

just back from watching, totally enjoying it.
Hulk
is funnier than what I remembered in his earlier movie. I ain't a marvel fan by any means so I don't know much about the invaders, but they totally remind me of
reapers and collectors from mass effect
. The ending is safe and sound, like the least of what I just want
mass effect 3
to end with :|. Totally screaming
damn it's space Jesus during Iron Man's part of destroying the mother ship/ base

I can't get over how exceptionally well done this film was.

Damn this ain't fair!

Why we gots ta wait to see dis in Merica

I know it would have been discussed, but is it worth seeing in 3D? I hope to see it next week.

Converted 3D. Though from accounts, it doesn't appear to be terrible or anything like that. But it's converted 3D nonetheless.
You are much better off watching it in 2D.

The ending reeks of deus ex machina.
So is
Black Widow, Maria Hill etc's prominence because of Joss Whedon's feminist influence?
Why we still
got unnecessary extended butt shots then? I mean I like them, but come on.

This is how Joss Whedon writes.

There's always a Deus ex Machina (Bill Willingham also does this, but it's because he believes that heroes can never lose).

I'd like to have a couple new heroes to slot into the line-up in time for the sequel. I'm looking forward to Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, should it ever come together.

You see where I'm going with this?

This is how Joss Whedon writes.

1) There's always a Shock Kill.
2) There's always a Deus ex Machina (Bill Willingham also does this, but it's because he believes that heroes can never lose).
3) "I'm a feminist"; then goes off to write some of Firefly's most sexist jokes and scenes.

I love Whedon, but these three are his biggest flaws as a writer.

Dude, reinstate those spoiler tags in your quote.

Should I make time to watch Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America before I go and watch this? My movie quota has been exceptionally low these past few years.

Say what you want about Whedon, but the guy can shoot ensembles, and action/sci-fi, period. Great movie, and The Hulk absolutely stole the show. The sequence towards the end where
the shot started with Black Widow, to Ironman, to Ironman + Cap double team, to Hawkeye shooting an arrow, to Hulk + Thor wrecking everything
without a cut was fantastic. The entire movie was shot well, but that sequence really stood out. And again, Hulk was beyond perfect. Top 3 Marvel and overall superhero flicks, easily.

Saw mentions of this possibly being the Fast Five of 2012, and that's a pretty good description. A feel good action romp with an enjoyable ensemble cast, only with the action being on a HUGE scale in this one.

Saw it last night an I thought it was great fun. Massive surprise for me and even the bits that weren't so good were masked by the bits that Whedon managed to pull off so successfully, ie the action scenes and the motherfucking Hulk. Most of the comedy didn't feel too cheesy either.
I just wish there was a work around to get Spider-Man involved for the next film.

For reference I thought IM1 was excellent, IM2 was entertaining in places, Thor was bad, TIH was bad and I haven't seen Captain America.

Surprise of the year so far for me.

Just saw it again in 2D. God, It felt sooo much better. It increases my hate for 3D. And now I actually noticed a few things happening in the background. Kudos to the director + cinematographer because this is a beautifully shot film that doesn't waste its budget with shaky cam or shitty close up actions. Dat one continuous fight scenes towards the end was just beautiful.

It's unfortunate that I don't have the money to watch it again in cinema so have to wait until Blu-ray for more repeat screening.

are there any crow eaters from the "joss whedon sucks, cheesy dialog, looks like a TV Series" crowd?

the way it moves from incredibly funny to epic and honest is something i only have ever seen done by whedon.

Personally I was never that bad, in terms of slamming the movie based on Whedon's previous work. From early trailers, I did only expect a 3 star movie. But, Whedon more than delivered what the potential of this universe can bring.
It was for me, easily a 4 maybe 5 star movie. I really can't wait for the sequel and Josh Whedon is now on my radar, where before; I took zero interest.

I'll eat crow on the action front. He pulled off the action in the film much better than I thought he would. Everything that wasn't a CGI flythrough scene DOES look like it's been shot for a TV series. You just don't really care.

Off to see this later this evening.

Sounds like Marvel has achieved what they set out to do when they released Ironman and that's to have a series of films leading up to The Avengers.

I'll eat my crow happily and say i didn't think they could do it.

Any early showings in NC, preferably close to Charlotte, NC? I really want to watch it today, but I have no idea if any place is showing it and no idea how to find out if any are.

This movie is so fantastic. i really hope they keep all of the characters in the sequel. (+ some additions)

this movie raised the bar so high that now i'd feel kinda bored watching a marvel movie with just one superhero on it :p

this is my fear as well. i'm still looking forward to IM3, but after seeing how well my lesser-liked characters like thor or cap work in this movie (all the interactions with the teammates, the snotty remarks, the teamspirit) i don't see me enjoying Thor 2 or Cap 2 like i did enjoy the prequels.

As for the Hulk/Banner control theories:

right before the big fight when Banner transform into Hulk he says something like:
you know what my trick is ? I'm always angry.
this makes me believe that when banner feeds the hulk inside him with his anger, the hulk in return allows banner to be awake while he's the hulk
(for example when he saves a teammate)

while after the explosion in the helicarrier banner is not angry, but unconscious for a moment and confused, so because the hulk doesnt get the rage of banner at this time, he takes over without allowing banner to be awake.

Any good videos, to catch people up that haven't seen all five films that lead into this? I've seen all five. But going with some friends tonight that have missed one or two.

I assume his first transformation was merely a result of the explosion, and therefore Hulk was just wanting to escape from SHIELD, and the second one was just him accepting his anger, which is why he can use it

Goddamnit the more I think about it the more I liked it, going to watch it today a second time. Other stuff I loved:

Hulk not being able to lift Thor's hammer. And on that line, fucking Hulk vs Thor.
The long take is an awesome shot. If that's what people meant with "shot like a tv movie", well, I hope more action movies are like that. Captain America reflecting Iron Man's laser was particularly awesome.
Hawkeye and Black Widow being useful.
Thanos, and Hulk vs Loki, which can't be stated enough.
.

Ignore Iron Man 2, but yes I think you need to watch Thor and Captain America first to appreciate the background of the characters and their motivations. Actually, in Avengers, there are some flashbacks scenes to Captain America.

2.5 and a half out of five stars for me. It's worth watching but IMO wasn't the be all end all. I thought most of the movie was boring up until
Loki broke out of jail
. I do think most of the movies leading up to this are decent, but not the greatest things ever. The last 30 minutes were fantastic though. When Cap is barking orders and tells
the Hulk to smash
I grinned from ear to ear. Bring on Batman.

Just saw this. Worth it just for the final act, he early bits were boring as some have said. Black widow and hulk were fucking amazing in this. Hulk was just outstandingly great. That scene near the end? So many laugh out loud scenes.

this movie is going to make some serious cash, i never heard an audience laughing more and the whole weekend is packed at all the theaters in the city.

Holy shit,
Hulk smashing Loke
really made me laugh.

That was the absolute standout in the movie. It was so fucking ballout insane that everyone in my cinema cracked up big time. Like totally fucking just lost it.

That and the
hulk punching thor scene at the end of them killing the armored worm

Fucking loved it

Disney's not screwing around with the marketing on this - it seems like all the NFL draft broadcasts have been sponsored by the film, and this is just NFL Network - I'd imagine it's on higher overdrive on ESPN since they own it, given what their current website looks like.

Ah fuck. Should have stayed post credits ;(

It's not even post credits. A good chunk of people were starting to leave when the scene appeared.

Also, it really surprised me, but people started to cheer and clap when
motherfucking Thanos
showed up. I'd assume most people were Marvel comics fans, but still.

Yeah, I loved the
infinity gauntlet
comics so I would have fucking loved to see that

Going to be excellent the sequel.

Wanted to add. Every single cent they spent on the cgi was worth it, this was no john carter. You can really tell what was expensive to do.

Btw
when robin walked off in the final scene, did she past the folder to Phil who then walked up to fury

I think that's what i saw
I don't want him to die

Hulk did great in this, but I'd still be anxious about a potential third Hulk movie. Ruffalo and his CG counterpart were both highlights of the film, but I can't help but feel that they're more suited to being part of a team than the focus of a movie. Jack Sparrow Syndrome, if you will.

Just came back from it. Man, that was super entertaining and awesome. Hulk has got to be my favorite in this and I'm a huge Iron Man fan! Best scenes for me were
Loki screaming I'm a god and Hulk proceeding to smash his face to bits
second is
Hulk punching Thor in the face after the huge creature crashes in the train station
Glorious! :D

Also, as others have already said. Hulk stole the show, Mark Ruffalo did a great job.
