It also should be interesting to see how my impressions are compared to my girlfriends. I've watched all the Marvel movies leading up to this one, while see hasn't seen any. But she is still extremely excited to see the Avengers next Saturday. I just hope I don't have to do a ton of explaining throughout the movie lol.

I saw it with my wife, who has seen practically all the Marvel movies with me (except for the first Iron Man, which was before we met). She's not at all a comic fan/geek (although she loved the 1st Iron Man movie; and Thor and Captain America for the leads) but she was laughing and clapping along with the rest of us. This movie is something special. You guys are going to love it.

Honestly, I haven't been this excited post a superhero movie since TDK. Not in the same league, mind you, but they are both great experiences.

Nice to still see some actors having some dignity & respect for their roles.

Some actors just have an issue with the character becoming all their known for, I'm guessing. RDJ IS Tony Stark/Iron Man for the rest of his life, and that role will only become more synonymous when Iron Man 3, and a probable 2 Avengers sequels release and kids grow up with him playing the character for, maybe, 10 years.

But I really admire people that take pride in their work and revel in being known for a character or series. RESPEK to RDJ for wanting to be Iron Man.

Also: money.

Well....that too.

Actually, I wonder if it's (Avengers spoilers!)
a Bruce Banner cameo in Iron Man 3. That's supposed to start filming soon anyways and we know Bruce drives off with Tony at the end of The Avengers. It was said Mark Ruffalo wouldn't be in Iron Man 3, but maybe they just did his part while he was available.
... just a theory. I don't think it has to do with The Avengers cause it doesn't make sense to only be a part of the US release.
I don't know. I think RDJ let it slip they were filming something else too. I bet its some kinda tease for IM3.
Doubt it, as IM3 is unrelated to Avengers and very isolated from what we can gather, so tying that into an Avengers post-credit scene wouldn't make much sense.

Not really a surprise, but RDJ hints that he'll re-sign with Marvel after Iron Man 3:

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1684081/iron-man-recast-robert-downey-jr-would-really-hate-that.jhtml
This is good to hear. Was afraid for a while there that he would be out, so this is reassuring. Still possible he won't be there in four years for Avengers 2, but I hope he is..

Id figure they'll hint at it, with SHIELD starting to find out and whatnot, and finish it off with the start of the second Avengers movie.

The
Infinity Gems with wich Thanos forms the Gaunglet
might very well start to appear in the individual movies one way or another.

There was even a
prop shown by Marvel at Comic-Con 2010 suggesting they would be implemented in some way

SPOILER (i guess) ---> http://i.imgur.com/y0VLU.jpg

edit: oh now i understand that you meant that as this whole thing starting to appear as plot points on the individual movies. I meant that as well. Specially the
Infinity Gems

although they could use an
infinity gauntlet-less Thanos i guess
, and build all of this for the third one..
Wasn't there an easter egg in Thor 1 that showed
the Gauntlet Thanos uses?
I seem to remember reading that somewhere.

Yeah, which was pretty dumb
if they're ever planning on using it in these movies since it's something that Thanos made, (in the Thanos Quest miniseries) not something he stole from Asgard.

ALSO, I don't know how the hell I forgot to mention this, but when we all watched it, everyone in the theater laughed at the
end when Stark says something along the lines of "we should all try that new shawarma joint"
!

EVERYBODY knows what that is, it's basically the equivalent of fast food in Syria, so it was hilarious that
he mentioned it
, and a nice coincidence for us. :lol

Another thing. Anyone notice how a a lot of scenes and short clips/camera angles etc weren't in the actually movie? I can think up a bunch right now, which is a bit weird. Lot's of extra footage it seems!

They could flashback to him making it and then have him lose it and it be placed on Asgard. Avengers 2 could be him getting it back and seeking revenge

This movie was really, really entertaining.

The invading army seemed pretty small though, all things considered. A few squadrons of fighter jets should`ve worked against the jetbike riders and snake things, they never showed more than a few hundred at the most.

And what exactly were they?

I checked wiki for
Thanos
, but I`m hit with a barrage of alien races, plots, characters etc that I`ve never heard of and don`t have the patience to fully digest.

Was the part where Black Widow knocked out a guy with her hair removed/fixed in the actual movie?

Nope. She probably had steel whips built into it ;)

No but it's not even a big deal, the scene was great imo. Though I don't remember seeing that scene with her standing there head-titled and explosions behind her. Among other scenes/lines from the trailers..

SPOILERS obviously, but I posted some details of Odin's vault in the MCU thread; http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=37426136#post37426136 (again, don't click if you don't want spoilers)

Saw this last night. It's by far the best superhero flick ever. Not even debatable. Caught myself grinning from ear to ear so many times.

Tightly scripted, great laughs, amazing effects and action scenes that while spectacular, make sense and you can follow. I can't praise it enough and can't wait to see it again.

And fucking Hulk, man!

It's absolutely astounding how they managed to take these characters, with everything they are and everything that comes with them and literally reproduced it on screen in all of its glory. It is, by far the best transitioned superhero film I can safely say. It doesn't shy away from flaunting it's comicbook nature at all. It reminds you constantly that this is a comicbook story and that it's frikkin' awesome.

Never has a superhero film made me go: ''Holy shit, these are all of my favourite characters I grew up with, and now there here, in real life, in live action, on screen, doing exactly the things I loved about them. And it's awesome!''

I wonder how they'll make new individual movies and hardly reference the other heroes in them. I mean if the earth is under attack by some evil guy, only Iron man will come to fight it in IM3? Hardly believable.

After seeing it yesterday, I'm considering seeing the movie again with some other friends next week. It was just so gloriously fun. And I never bother seeing superhero movies twice. I think X2 is the only one I've bothered with and the 2nd time was on DVD.

Same here, seeing it again this Thursday. Probably will take my younger cousins this time since they're dying to see it.

They've only had, oh... 40 years to work on that problem.

Completed my Avengers preparation this weekend with IM2. The wife & I watched an Avengers movie each weekend during April with another couple/family. We still have to get the babysitter worked out, but we're all going to see Avengers in Orlando's only real (tm) IMAX screen this weekend.

But I'm getting a group together to go see it on Friday night. 4 LONG days away.....

Hulk solo film in 2015?
If Hulk’s successful turnaround continues, Gitter says Marvel “will spin him off to a stand-alone program next year,” supported by a big budget franchise movie in 2015. The entertainment studio is also exploring ways to promote Hulk as a “corporate icon,” similar to MetLife’s usage of Peanuts’ Snoopy, where The Hulk’s image conveys a message about channeling strength to overcome workplace challenges.

Anyone else feel this would'nt work? He doesn't work very well as a standalone character. The incredible Hulk movie is pretty much representative of what any Hulk movie would be like and many people didn't like that film (I loved it personally). What else would we expect out of a Hulk film? What did that one do so wrong?

The only way a Hulk movie would work is if a bunch of other heroes are tasked with having to stop him. Where it isn't so much about the Hulk but about the chase and pursuit.

wat, you mean the old TDKR trailer right

I believe so (the one I saw was one I'd already seen on YouTube a couple of months ago).

Yup:

Hulk did great in this, but I'd still be anxious about a potential third Hulk movie. Ruffalo and his CG counterpart were both highlights of the film, but I can't help but feel that they're more suited to being part of a team than the focus of a movie. Jack Sparrow Syndrome, if you will.

Hulk could work, but I would add another, lesser hero and make it a proper adventure. Give me a Hulk and Hawkeye buddy picture, written by Whedon.

It will work if he gets to fight supernatural stuff, not the stupid US army.

Ya I don't think a standalone Hulk movie will work unless it ties in with other heroes and gives him a lot of stuff to smash. The non-Hulk parts would be boring without other well known characters to play off of.

A 1v1 fight that's roughly even isn't really interesting either. The Hulk is at his best when he's clearly unstoppable.

They tried that with the last film and Abomination and it didn't work out too well. They already have a set up for the Leader with the last film. They just need to add someone else into the mix so that it's not entirely on Hulk.

Would that fix anything though? He couldn't conceivably be fighting the entire movie. That's where I feel the Hulk story falls flat. Bruce isn't all that interesting is he? <- Genuine question. I don't read comics.

They just need to make this into a movie and call it a day:

And this scene would be a giant easter egg hunt on the big screen:
