Biggest/Craziest/Most Important Sports event you've been to?

I know there's a lot of sports fans in GAF. Wanted to know whats some of the bigger sport events people have attended. Events like World Cup, Olympics, or championship games. Maybe even a game where a record was broken or riot broke loose.
Biggest sports event I've been to was the last game in the Old Yankee Stadium. got there an hour early, great pre-game celebration then great post-game fan celebration. People stood behind for an hr after the game. We all started autographing our names on a Modells sign next to the bleachers.

Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals in Anaheim the year the Ducks won the cup

At least I think it was game 4

And UFC 129 at Skydome
And UFC 140 at the ACC

My parents went to game 6 of the 1993 World Series, they got to see Joe Carter hit the championship winning home run........I did go to an ALCS game that year.......I should have been at the WS game too, ugh!

My family has a history for being as physically close to important sports events as possible without actually going. My parents lived in Edmonton during the Gretzky dynasty, never went to a game. My parents lived in Calgary during the winter olympics, watched on tv.

It's sort of carried over to me as well. I was in town during the calgary flames stanley cup finals run and didn't go. In New Orleans this past final four and didn't get a chance to go, watched it on tv.

It's a bit frustrating but it's whatever, first world problems. At least i have a frigging roof over my head and food everyday

The 2006 Ohio State-Michigan football game. 1 versus 2. Both undefeated. We won, and it was awesome.

Of course, we ended up getting destroyed by Florida in the MNC that year, which kind of cheapens that win. But it was still pretty freaking cool.

Word, I got offered a ticket for the game 7 of Diamondbacks vs Yankees World Series the morning of. I had a birthday party I had already committed too. Sucks man.

The biggest would probably be the Indy 500. I went a few times back in in the early '90s and it was just crazy. We parked in the infield and it was the largest party I've ever been to.

The most important (to me) was the 1998 Rose Bowl. I went and got to see my Wolverines cap off an undefeated season. Damn was Charles Woodson amazing that year.

Saw my Oregon Ducks beat Wisconsin in 2012 Rose Bowl for their first Rose Bowl victory in 95 years.

Not crazy important but it was an AWESOME experience :D

I went to this game:

The Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan, and the Atlanta Hawks broke the NBA attendance record by drawing 62,046 fans to the Georgia Dome on March 27, 1998.

Haven't really been to many important playoff games though yet.

I got to see Mark Mcgwire hit home runs # 50 and 51 at Shea Stadium in NYC in that awesome 1998 season when him and Sosa were chasing the single season record.

I don't care that they were juicing, baseball will never be that fascinating again.

I saw Brazil play a soccer match against someone in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. I was only 8 at the time, so I don't remember it too well. But I do remember the underdog won the game. On the way into the stadium, legions of street vendors were selling one team's merch. On the way out, they'd all switched to selling stuff for the winning team.

i guess the biggest three would be the 1998 world cup final in paris (which france won), 100m final at 2004 athens olympics, and euro 2004 final in portugal (which portugal lost).

the ones that meant the most to me personally were the 2003 FA cup final between southampton (my team) and arsenal, which was amazing even though we lost, and the last ever game at southampton's old ground.

8th Grade vs Faculty Volleyball game. Shit was intense and we almost had them, but we fell apart at the end. Damn...

1994 world cup.

Quarterfinals at the cotton bowl in Dallas. Brazil 3, holland 2.

Amazing atmosphere. Better than any mavs game, cowboys game, longhorn game, or thr athletic Madrid/real Madrid match I went to last year.

My dad got tickets to the 2001 World Series game 7 where the D-Backs took out the Yankees.

Not that I give a shit about baseball, but anything to see the Yankees lose :)

I saw Brett Favre decimate the Patriots in 2002. Not so amazing but it was a rarely abject performance for the Pats at home since the first Super Bowl win

That was a great series man, added with the emotions of 9/11. Remember it like it was yesterday. More surprising that Mariano lost the game.

2010 FIFA World Cup, Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban, Germany vs Spain.

I can still close my eyes and... EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Game 4 of Eastern Conference Finals between the Heat and Bulls last year. Went to overtime before we pulled out the victory. Not that big, but my personal biggest.

World Cup qualifying match at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid. 85,000 people.

I'm hoping to go to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup.

University of Maryland vs. Miami. The atmosphere when Maryland won was just incredible.

What game?

My favorite (because of the craziest):
Washington Nationals vs Seattle Mariners in 2011. The Nationals were down 5-1 going into the bottom of the ninth.

Werth got on base because of an error.
Bernadina walked.
Zimmerman grounded into a double play. (Werth to 3b)
Jerry Hairston singles to score Werth. (5-2)
Morse singles, Hairston to 2b.
Espinosa singles. Hairston scores, Morse to 2b. (5-3)

and then to top it all off:

Wilson Ramos hits a 3 run walk off bomb. (link)

I can't believe I was at that game. It felt like we had just made the playoffs or something. The win probability chart was at the ceiling for the Mariners going into the bottom of the ninth and then it just suddenly drops off a cliff.

Yeah, don't have anything nearly as important. I was at this game though:

First overtime punt return for a touchdown in NFL history:
http://nflfilms.nfl.com/2011/11/07/films-encore-tamarick-vanover/

I was on the Chiefs sideline, about the "left" 45 yard line, 6 rows back. It was a Monday night game so the place was already pumped. He came streaking down the sideline in front of us and when he scored, the place exploded. It was also our third overtime win at home of the season. It was a great game to be at.

Sadly, it was also the season of the Colts kicking us out in the first round of the playoffs. Due mainly to the foot of "He who shall not be named". We still do not speak of him here. Dumbass.

2007 AFC Championship Game. Colts vs. Patriots. Colts endure a dominating first half by the Patriots to pull off a thrilling victory, exorcise the Patriot playoff demons, and get to the Super Bowl, where they win and Peyton finally "wins the big game".

The lowest lows and the highest highs I've ever had at a sporting event were that game. I was damn near depression after the first half. Walking on sunshine at the end of the game.

When Marlin Jackson intercepted Tom Brady, the RCA Dome must have been louder than a goddamn jet airplane. One of the greatest days of my life.

A Pirates game in September.

hahaha best post so far, love you man.

I was at the game Robin Yount of the Milwaukee Brewers made his 3000 hit back in 1992.

After that I haven't really gone to many sporting events. When the Baseball strike happened in 1994 and I had a bunch of tickets that season, I lost all interest in professional baseball, and sports in general.

I haven't been to any noteworthy games.

Travis Hafner's walk off grand slam last year.
The last game Michael Jordan played in Cleveland.
Longest game in Indians history.
The Sunday Night game where Tim Couch got injured and thought the crowd was cheering his injury.
3 USMNT games (2 friendlies, 1 World Cup Qualifying)
3 USWNT games

And while this one is nowhere near as important or big as just about any other sporting event listed here, it's close to my heart and was certainly crazy:

Cleveland Crunch winning their second NPSL championship.

I was 10 at the time and my coach took my whole soccer team to the game. The Crunch ended up coming back from a ridiculous margin to win in front of a league record crowd. When the last goal was scored to ice the victory, the crowd exploded.

The only item on my Bucket List is to go to every USMNT game at a World Cup.

8th Grade vs Faculty Volleyball game. Shit was intense and we almost had them, but we fell apart at the end. Damn...

My 8th grade year, the boys in my gym class faced off against out girls city league winning side. They didn't take it seriously, we did and we somehow beat them and celebrated like fools.

Hahahaha same thing for me instead it was kickball. It actually got pretty serious and intense. Can't remember who won but it was super fun.

The 2006 Ohio State-Michigan football game. 1 versus 2. Both undefeated. We won, and it was awesome.

This.

Forgot to get my season tickets (wasn't really into college football at the time) and bought my friend's ticket for $150 (even though he got offers for $200+)

Of course, we ended up getting destroyed by Florida in the MNC that year, which kind of cheapens that win. But it was still pretty freaking cool.

Saddest day of my life :(

January 8, 2012
Denver Broncos vs. Pittsburgh Steelers.

I've had Denver Broncos season tickets since 2005 (waited on a list since 1996) and have been to numerous regular season and post-season games. The New England division game in 2006 was fun, but nowhere as crazy as this years wild card game.

It has just snowed the previous night, but the weather cleared on game day. A bit chilly, but it was a beautiful day to tailgate. This alone would have made a great day.
Game went back and forth and eventually was tied at the end of regulation. Again, the great day kept on giving.

Then I watched Tebow hit Thomas across the middle - Thomas raced down the sideline, past our section and the game was over.

Fireworks, spilled beer, hugs from strangers, yelling, and jumping around.

Praise Tebow.

2000 - 2001 I worked security for the Saint John Flames when they won the Calder Cup. Got to be on the ice when they did the skate with the cup plus the celebration in the change room with media and shit. Was awesome.

Rose Bowl, 1994, UCLA vs. Wisconsin.

Me and 2 friends, totally psyched to go see our Bruins on our home field, only to be dumbstruck when we enter the stadium and see 2/3 of it is red and white.

I was there when Brian Kilrea became the winningest coach in junior hockey:

He has won the Memorial Cup, emblematic of Canada's major junior championship, twice with the 67's (1984 and 1999) and is the winningest coach in junior hockey history – a task completed on January 17, 1997 with his 742nd win.

Brian Kilrea

It was not a big crowd, but if I remember it right the Ottawa Civic Centre was packed.

I had the incredible luck of being at Mark Buehrle's perfect game. I hadn't been to a Sox game in years, and my dad thought we were overdue for one. So we went, and, oh wow, look, there is a legitimate historic moment in sports history unfolding before my very eyes.

It was amazing to see. I don't keep up on baseball all that much these days, but understanding the significance and rarity of a perfect game along with feeling the energy of the entire stadium well up in unison after that last out was made... it was intense.

I was there when Michael Jordan hit the shot over Bryon Russel to win the Finals. It gutted me as a Jazz fan, but I'm happy to have witnessed it in person.

My home team Brisbane Roar had a near perfect season in 2010/11 by going 28 games in a row without defeat, securing a home Grand Final against the Central Coast Mariners.

The game went into extra time when the Mariners lead 2-0. With less than five minutes to go, the Roar mounted a last gasp comeback.

I'll never forget the noise in the stadium when that second goal went in.

I was at Lakers Game 7 win over the Celtics in 2010 at Staples. 3rd and 4th Quarter were pretty crazy because it was all quiet and everyone had this, "Oh shit, this is really happening, we're going to lose" feeling.

I also was at the Niners-Saints playoff game last year when Alex Smith didn't Alex Smith.
