HOLY FUCKING SHIT

BEST SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER

srsly. Saw it at midnight, the whole time people were clapping and shit, and were laughing their asses off more than any comedy I've seen. Seriously the funniest movie I've seen in a while, without even really trying to be!

The only negatives I have was the I felt like the CG overloaded my brain at the end. Still, it was great to have the camera stay on the action for a good 3 seconds or so without being all spastic. Whedon is the man.

I don't know. Compare this scene to say the end of Transfomers 3. That was a total mess without any real point to it all. With a few exceptions, things in Avenger's finale felt like things belonged there.

Agree with that.

And none of it looked cheesy, which usually happens with that much CG. They did it right. I tip my hat.

shockingly good, and easily better than any movie leading up to it (including my previous favorite IRON MAN). downey and ruffalo, stars of the show. special props to hiddleston, too, who did a good job at selling loki's menace--even though loki is not a character i find that appealing or menacing in the incarnation being presented.

a million times better than i expected. i am very, very impressed.

I've made my peace with it. We really shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. It's amazing that Marvel was able to pull this off as is.
My thoughts exactly. It's not perfect, but the crux/essence of it is there, and it makes the comic book nerd within me so horny happy.

I'm sure the experts have voiced this more eloquently but I absolutely loved how Whedon seemed to fit all these heroes into one movie without it blowing up in his face and even gave weight to the non super ones. Everyone had a role to play and Whedon showcased their abilities and what they had to offer. It was perfect. And I greatly appreciated this aspect. It would have been so easy to just turn this into Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk Fuckin' Shit Up: The Movie.

So I went in expecting the movie to not live up to god knows how many years of hype.

It was a good movie all around, not many many years good but almost there.

But then, the mid credits scene, oh my god.

OH MY GOD.

THANOS.

FUCKING THANOS.

THEY FUCKING DID IT, I ALWAYS JOKED WITH MY FRIEND ABOUT THANOS BEING IN THERE IS IN THE SAME LEAGUE OF A IRON FIST OR ROCKET RACOON MOVIE.

BUT THEY DID IT.

FUCKING MOVIE OF THE YEAR(until batman and Prometheus come out then it will be a bloodbath)

I have to say Coulson
"His first name is Agent"
was great in this and I was kind of meh on him before. His fanboy crush on Cap was such a great touch.

I spit out some of my soda when
Thor and Hulk were beating the crap out of the aliens, and they take a breather, and out of the blue, Hulk just punches Thor
Holy shit I laughed my ass off at that!

I'm just glad
he didn't go out in the first scene. He got a good death sequence, even getting a really good hit on Loki.

1. Avengers
2. Iron Man
3. Captain America
4. Thor
5. Incredible Hulk
6. Iron Man 2

only ranking is only

Agree with this ranking. I enjoyed Avengers a lot and I'd like to see it again at some point. Fun movie, good action, good acting.

Do you think he
really is dead?
My friends and I seem to think
he may show up in future Marvel movies, most likely IM3. I mean we know he "stopped" breathing, but they could have revived him and Fury used his death to push them together

Never did see Transformers 3. Felt like I had my fill after 1 (although I did see 2 on disc).

Thats my secret, Captain. I'm always angry.
*shivers*

after the utterance of that line the rest of the movie IS PURE DISTILLED CONCENTRATE OF HIGH-GRADE FUCKING AWESOME.

Joss. Motherhumping. Whedon. You magnificent son of a bitch. You just made the best superhero movie I've ever seen. Yes, better than SM2 and Batman Begins. You can disagree with me, but like it or not, this movie is in the conversation.

Sweet Jesus on a bicycle, this movie is awesome! I can't believe as hyped as I was, it still delivered!

The pacing was exceptional, the dialogue pitch perfect, and the action was phenomenal.

Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye just lit up the goddamn screen for 2+ hours! I am bouncing off the walls!

Couldn't wait for you to get back. Seriously, re: the bolded... I typically HATE giving people any expectations or having any of my own, or feeling like the hype is going to influence my enjoyment in one direction or another...

With this film, I am breaking one of my cardinal filmgoing rules and just telling anyone asks to fucking brace themselves. It is that damn good.

There's something that may be obvious but I didn't really understand in the movie
How come David Banner was able to turn into the Hulk on purpose and control it fine and not attack his allies, but when he turned into the Hulk the first time he was just crazy?

Did I just call him a rapper

omg

First off-he's BRUCE Banner. ;)

Secondly-
When he rages out and tried to contain his transformation, the Hulk was mindless and raging. When he purposely changes into the Hulk, Hulk can be somewhat logical-follow Cap's commands, speak, etc.

It's funny- I can totally see how this wasn't obvious, but I'm also glad it wasn't spelled out any more.

It's much clearer if you saw The Incredible Hulk recently, and paid close attention to conversations between Tony Stark and Banner.

When the Hulk comes out involuntarily, as on the helicarrier, it's a protection mechanism- he barely has any consciousness, and is just a pure berserker flurry of rage, attacking anything nearby.

When Banner willingly summons the Hulk, he has a degree of control over him and can understand people, strategize, and even converse a bit. Though he still can't always control his impulses *punches Thor*

It's Bruce Banner btw. ;)

edit: Damn you, MDavis. You're lucky the Avengers have taught us to stand together!

Yea I mixed up the names with a rap artist haha, and yea I was kinda thinking that. Makes sense.

Thanks both of you guys, I sorta came to that conclusion but wasn't sure if I was right or not

Hey what does
hulk say after he tosses around Loki in the Stark suite? I thought he said "Puny God", but my friends said that he says "Me God!", but everyone was laughing to hard I couldn't hear him.

Saw it in 2D (4K digital projection). Think I'll see it again this weekend. Great, great fun.

my interpretation was definitely what yours was. sounded clear to me, but there was a lot of laughing so...

David Banner was his name on the old TV show with Bill Bixby. Supposedly, they changed it because the producers thought "Bruce" was "too gay-ish" of a name.

If they follow through on that mid credits scene, it better top the end of this movie's scope. It will be fucking epic. The problem with that is
if they use Thanos in the second movie, they have nowhere to go but down with the threat level.
Sure, they could do some smaller, more intimate villains and go for the emotional angle, but for sheer scale
Thanos is about as big as it gets. Unless they go for Galactus. If Marvel ever gets him back.
But damn I would love for Marvel to get Doctor Doom back and give us the Doom we deserve.
.

What I saw in this movie was a small build up towards a larger problem. Second movie might follow the same formula but approach it in a different light. So you could see Loki as a captain of a bunch of henchmen.

1. Avengers
2. Iron Man
3. Captain America
4. Thor
5. Incredible Hulk
6. Iron Man 2

only ranking is only
This is accurate. Though CA and Thor can be swapped based on personal preference, some people adore Thor. I personally enjoyed it more than CA.

Speaking of those two, I loved this exchange;

Fury: And I'd like to know how Loki used it to turn two of the sharpest men I know into his personal flying monkeys.
Thor: Monkeys? I do not understa—
Cap: I DO!.... I... I understood that reference.

Really the only comedic thing from Cap but I liked how they showed that Thor doesn't understand a lot of human talk, and at the same time show how out of time Steve is/trying to fit in. Oh and the lulz. :)

It's amazing when there's one consistent moment that the crowds pop for so much that nobody could hear the line spoken right after it :lol

And what's really funny is that they even purposely left a long pause in the movie for the laughter to subside before that line-and EVERY audience is still laughing during the line.

‘AVENGERS’ Assemble For $70M Friday! Record $170 Million Weekend Possible

Nikki Finke said:
FRIDAY 12:45 PM… My sources are giving very early estimates for Marvel’s The Avengers of between $65 million and $67 million for Friday (including $18.7M midnights) based on matinee trends. Not a record. That would bring the worldwide total to $371 million so far… and counting. More later.

FRIDAY 7:45 PM… Rival studios tell me they expect Marvel’s The Avengers from Disney to open to $67M (within a range of $60M and $70M) today and around $160M (within a range of $157M-$165M) its first weekend in North America. No records going down yet. More later.

FRIDAY 9:45 PM… REFRESH FOR LATEST… Disney is looking at even stronger North American box office for Marvel’s The Avengers in Digital 3D, RealD and IMAX 3D than even rival studios thought. The gross number now is thought to be $70 million on opening day Friday (including $18.1M midnights) and $160+M through Sunday. “Freakin’ phenomenal,” one studio mogul phoned me tonight. ”It has a real shot at the weekend record,” another movie boss emailed me. Warner Bros’ Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 (also a 3D movie)holds both the Friday opening record of $91M and the first weekend record of $169M. The AMC theater chain is selling so many Avengers tickets today that its entire credit card processing system is delayed.

I like how the estimate keeps going up. And LMFAO at AMC's credit card system getting clogged.

I know. It was so awesome that there was not enough of a pause to let the audience come back down from that high.

Normally im all for people clapping in the movies but this time around i missed half the damn dialogue cause of that shit.

That scene, really, succinctly and excellently, demonstrated the ultimate grasp Whedon has on all of the characters. They aren't just characters written into a film, they're people with decades of history to drawn upon.

So true-another sign of this is that he immediately hones in on the fact that Stark and Banner would immediately become best pals because they're the smartest guys in the room.
