wasnt a bad movie for what it was, but the expository dialogue and long swaths of actionless scenes were kinda meh. B- overall for me

Very entertaining movie. a lot of hilarious moments..

one question/comment though

Why no screen time for Thor's girl? I know she was mentioned but I would have liked to see her. And is there a reason why Thors didnt call his friends to come help out? Seems like they could have been useful at the end there. I know its not Thor 2 but still pepper pots got her screen time.

I also liked captain america a lot more in this than his movie, Loki's actor was fantastic.

She was probably too expensive to put into the film :p And
War Machine wasn't in this either, no need for sidekicks right now

They explained that
they put Jane into hiding to protect her from Loki.

As for Thor's friends Loki asks Thor how much dark energy Odin had to harness just to get him to Earth, so if it was hard to get Thor there; it probably wasn't possible to bring the Warriors Three and Sif.

I'm guessing because they didn't want to pay for Natalie Portman and it would have been a bit of a waste of time either way. I think Pepper only got some time because she's much more important to Tony's life than Jane is to Thor and her dynamic with Tony is fun and built up over several movies. Also both Iron Man films were far more popular than Thor.

That and RDJ wanted her in the movie. She wasn't originally in the story.

ah I didn't hear lokis conversation with thor in full because of the kids crying in the theater. But that makes sense I was wondering how he got there too. Thanks for the answer.

Wired article on creating Hulk:

Ruffalo worked closely with industrial Light & Magic to create the Hulk’s performance-capture foundation, Whedon says. “When Bruce Banner turns into the Hulk … Mark did all the reference and the animators took it a step further. Mark encouraged them to. He’s like, ‘Look, you can’t look at me going ‘grrrrrrr‘ and then just animate that. You guys have to own this character as much as I do.’”

Whedon asked Ruffalo to prepare for the role by checking out Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno‘s 1978 to 1982 The Incredible Hulk TV series, but he didn’t even bother to screen earlier Hulk movies for the actor.

Anyone think they will do a hawkeye and black widow spinoff movie in the future? I don't know much about the characters but they seemed to be hinting at their past in that this will be important in the future kind of way. Maybe in the next avengers?

Saw the movie tonight as a birthday outing, and absolutely loved it. Every character really gets their day in the sun, and there are some fantastic conversations between the characters. Honestly, it's pretty much everything I expected out of a Joss Whedon directed ensemble superhero flick. More than anything, I loved the way they portrayed Captain America. He's a great tactician and leader, and he ended up being portrayed pretty stop on.

Joss Whedon delivers yet again.

(yes, I love Joss Whedon's work. Come at me, bro)

Btw, the second post-credits scene was amazing. I loved it.

Mark Ruffalo is best Hulk. Sorry Ang Lee.

Completely agree. Mark Ruffalo played Bruce to a T.

Go watch the Avengers - Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon

I watched Season 1 last week and it really helped set the scene for the Avengers movie somewhat

A little lighter than I was anticipating, but otherwise, this is the best comic book movie ever made because it feels authentic in spirit. Still, doesn't quite have the resonance and payoff of the IM1 origin depiction, but it's better than every other Marvel comic-based movie. I love that, in the opening scene, they destroy a local high school passing for a NASA/SHIELD lab.

Something caught my eye in the final scene and I'm wondering if anybody else picked up on it.
When Pepper and Tony are together at the end, she's clearly wearing a large gemmed ring. Could she be holding an Infinity Gauntlet gem?
Or am jumping to conclusions here?

It was fucking packed for a 11:45pm showing and they had security guards lined up outside and everything. This thing is going to make so much cash.

It was pretty good. Liked the humor and the theater was rocking out to every little joke, which fortunately drowned out the sound of the family sitting behind me with all their little fucking brats chattering away.

I thought this was a genuinely enjoyable movie. I really disliked Captain America and how that was done, so I was pleasantly surprised watching this.

=/ Well that sucks. How did they end up with rights?

You reckon there's a possibility they'll show up in the sequel?

Marvel sold the rights for Spider-Man so long ago, and it was in limbo until somehow it landed into Columbia's hands. Go read the wiki page and you'll see all the craziness it has been through. James Cameron had it at one point.

X-Men was sold to FOX a long time ago too, probably just for monetary reasons. IDK. But as long as they keep making X-Men films, or still producing one, FOX keeps it.

So the possibilities are close to 0.

So I just saw this tonight, and I don't know much about the comics, but based on what I know...
was that Galactus during the middle of the end credits scene?

"Cameron stalwart Arnold Schwarzenegger was frequently linked to the project as the director's choice for Dr. Octopus."

:lol

Avengers was a fun ride.

ScarJo was horrible. Black Widow, Hawkeye and Captain America are really fucking lame "heroes."

Ruffalo's Hulk was great, Iron Man was back to the form from his first flick, and Thor remains oddly likable.

Answer to your spoiler question:
Also: Nerd Alert! It was Thanos

Fucking loved it. Expletives are required to make that point, clearly.

The dynamics, pacing, ACTION & HUMOR. So well done and in classic Whedon style. (I hope there are enough crows to go around for certain people)

and the post credits scene was just brilliant
and warmly affecting. Totally hilarious and life encapsulated.

Definitely seeing this again in 2D.

Oh ok...
i don't know who that is :( i'm just familiar with galactus from MvC3 really, and his helmet looked very similar up close.

Just know he's one of the baddest of badasses. One of the strongest villains in all of the Marvel universe. Actually, simply one of the strongest beings, good or bad. He's gonna be a problem.

its just incredible how this movie had a budget of 220 and it was quite possibly the greatest super hero movie of all time then you have a movie like green lantern with the same budget and its complete garbage in every way imaginable. i cannot fathom how horribly mismanaged the budget was for green lantern.

so did anyone catch the 3D trailer of the amazing spider man? its like they have no idea what they're doing when it comes to 3d space and 3d directing. horrible out of focus shots putting way too much depth between depth layers, its like they have no concept of 3d directing. in many scenes instead of having objects have 3d depth they looked like flat layers.

i watched the Prometheus and even frakenweenie movie and those looked several times better.

Well I think it's more a problem of script for GL than the way they used all that money. The Avengers' script is so fucking tight it hurts.

it wasnt just the script, horrible casting, horrible budgeting of the special effects. they spent all the money on that horrible looking suit. wasted money on that ugly hot wheels scene. blake lively is ugly. the movie just fails in every way. stupid ass antagnoist, and when it comes to super hero movies origin stories are the fucking easiest and they managed to fail on that.

So are you saying if Spectacular Spider-Man didn't exist this year, there's a possibility the rights would have reverted?

I thought that GL's main problem is that it felt like two movies pulling in different directions mashed together.

wow this movie keeps giving and giving

I thought that GL's main problem is that it felt like two movies pulling in different directions mashed together.

i dont think it even had a direction.
(hey i have unresolved father issues, and im a fighter pilot, and i'm like friends with this girl and possible a love triangle with this guy with a tumor on his head, and then a purple Kelsey Grammer gives me this ring and it gives me powers, then i goto this planet for a short training session where i barely learn to use my powers and yet this dude parallax just shows up and i single handily send him back even tho i barely can use my powers)

the funny thing in all this is that the justice league is so much better than the avengers but WB cant seem to get their heads out from their asses to tap into that potential.

Skimming through the pages now, people really like this thi--oh my god...

Solo loved it. HE LOVES A JOSS WHEDON PRODUCT.
