AVENGERS FAQ (because we keep going in circles):

  • Why was Hulk not uncontrollable at the end?
Banner's second transformation into Hulk was voluntarily. It's been established, in the comics and in The Incredible Hulk, that a voluntary transformation makes Hulk more controllable and means he can distinguish between friend and foe. Banner's first transformation was involuntary, and thus Hulk was much more volatile.
  • How did Thor get back to Earth? Wasn't that rainbow bridge thingy destroyed?
Thor got back to Earth thanks to Odin using dark magic to teleport him there. Loki mentions this when Thor abducts him. It's implied that this is a very difficult process and a one way ticket - the tesseract is needed to teleport Thor and Loki back to Asgard.
  • What did Hulk say--
Hulk says "Puny god" after smashing Loki. I'm sorry the audience was too loud.
  • Who was that after the end credits?
    Thanos: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanos
  • What's shawarma?
    No idea.

Anything I forgot?
Thank you for using my term for the bifrost bridge. lol

Perhaps what comics to buy?

Actually what are the direct tie in comics?

What did you guys think of the soundtrack? I liked these two rock songs (nin and soundgarden) and the main theme but other than that nothing really sticks out for me.

This guy is the real villain of the piece, I doubt he's bought Galaga for SHIELD hardware.

FG4V

Thoughtout the whole Helicarrier sequence I kept thinking about how shitty Shield's security is, from Captain America breaking into the secret stash, to Hawkeye infiltrating their airspace with a jet, etc... But that one guy hilariously serves as a good enough explanation.

Helicarrier staffed with lazy Gaffers confirmed.

I liked The Avengers and I really enjoyed the last hour or so, don't get me wrong. Captain America is a much, much better film though. Read my earlier impression, but The Avengers has zero stakes and for a nearly 2 and half hour film, it's hard to get involved with it on more than just the basic popcorn level. I was hoping Whedon could come up with an interesting story, but he didn't. But, like I said, it's fun to see all these characters together and their exchanges are fun.
The fate of mankind is "zero stakes"? Huh, news to me. And I'd say there's something personal at stake as well with Stark doing what he does in the end, to prove that he IS a hero and not just some selfish jack-ass (which someone said he was, iirc).

Yeah the soundtrack was kind of meh. I liked the first track in the movie, but I can't remember anything else after that.

Of course there's the implication of world ending stuff, but to be honest here, the Chitauri had a 0 kill count the entire movie at least explicitly as far as I can see, which sort of diminishes their threat presence.

It was appropriate. Not the wall-to-wall Movie Muzak that drives me nuts in some action films. Captain America was guilty of this...

Don't particularly care for the soundtrack.
The score however, that was really well done.

Yeah the stakes never felt real or made me feel on the edge of the seat. It's the same complaint that a lot of other GAFFers also share.

you didn't see all the funerals after the movie ended.

Haven't heard any of the soundtrack and Silvestri's score was completely unmemorable outside of a decent main theme.

Alan Silvestri's theme was great (although not that original), and whenever it was used it elevated the movie to fantastic proportions ("That's my secret, Cap. I'm always angry.").

It's not his best score though, since that theme was only used sparingly, and the rest of the score was filler.

Here's an AWESOME article about the FX of the Avengers and just how much work it takes to get this stuff on screen. I highly recommend reading this if any of you are artists or 3D guys in general...

Funny thing is, as soon as the credits started, I leaned over to my buddy and was like, "Ugh, I would not want to be the guy who had to model/texture all of that". This article confirms that statement, haha.

Soundtrack is something they can easily fix for Avengers 2 when they give it a 300 million budget. I seriously think the next one completely deserves that kind of money, anyone with me?

Same here.

When I saw the movie I assumed Stark was talking about some restaurant that only New Yorkers would know about.

It's funny because I chuckled at how out-of-townish it sounded for him to say that. "I heard there's this shawarma restaurant nearby" is like saying "I heard there's this McDonald's nearby" in New York, there's like a thousand of them.

Parts of it (Tunnel Chase) felt like he took a trip back with Dillion to THE CHOPPA! I thought the theme was excellent though. The piece played for the old man....okay is it wrong for me to assume he MIGHT be Jewish, was rather nice. Stark Goes Green was good too. I liked the score a lot, then again I love Alan's score for Predator, Delta Force, Cap, and others, so I might be biased. That said it would have been neat to weave in the themes of other the other films, but honestly unlike say Batman, Superman, I can't tell what are the themes of the Superheroes.

really? must be your theater. my showing was loud and punchy.

I'm thinking of the attack on SHIELD, a lot of the baddies and the gun Cap gets is suppressed, the others are fine though. When Cap starts firing it, it sounds odd till you notice the suppressor.

Oh to my surprise apparently Smith and Wesson must be chucking money at the armorer for this film, because besides Black Widow and her dual G26's, everyone at Shield used Smith and Wesson M&Ps, which is odd to see. NYPD did have Glocks though.

I liked a few of the non-theme cues, such as the percussion during the Hawkeye-Black Widow fight, the orchestral music in the Stuttgart attack (switching to AC/DC as Stark arrives), the Indian theme...

Generally it serves the movie well.

:lol

Manos you need to do a Gun review for every movie so that I have some knowledge in that area. I had no idea Caps gun was any different, or BWs for that matter.

I thought Captain America would get overshadowed by all the big leagues, but damn, that's a nice job with the characterization. The "Why the hell should I follow your order" and "Hulk Smash" scenes got me. "A voice that can command a God... and does", indeed.

Yea I was happy to see he became the "leader" of the group. I like how all of the characters felt like they had something to prove, but when the real shit went down they worked together instinctively. I like how Iron Man and Captain America had that one shot, where Iron Man shot Caps shield, making the beam reflect off of it. Iron Man sending the nuke into space, showed he was not as selfish as everyone believed. I also felt that Thor and Captain America were better handled in this movie, compared to their respective films. I did rewatch them before I saw Avengers..

I'm sure many were implied to have died....but it doesn't hurt to be given a visual reminder of what they are capable of. There's literally a scene in the movie where the Chitauri invade an office and shoot at civilians and somehow miss, presumably because Marvel is uncomfortable with showing civilian deaths, or even getting wounded.

Worst moment of The Avengers?

The cop scene with Cap giving orders. The joke was a bit too forced for my liking.

I cringed.

That scene was funny because realistically if a dude in a blue superhero suit came out of no where and ordered a cop around, they would be like wtf, then Cap shows hes not fucking around the cop smartens up. My theatre loved that scene.

didnt notice the shot reflected off caps shield. I need to rewatch this movie now!!!

I get the impression that Earth would have been a foothold position for a much larger advance.

With the Cosmic Cube he could have tapped into a vast store of power and maybe been some annoyance for Asgard, but otherwise it would be suicide to attack Odin's planet. He wants to court Death, not be ferried by her.

That said, with the Infinity Gauntlet it's obviously a different story.

You know I really have to commend how the Widow character was handled and how Johansson portrayed her. There have been comments previously about how ridiculously underpowered both she and Hawkeye are in comparison to the others, but to me this came out as a tremendous strength. Throughout the movie you really got the feeling that she felt overwhelmed by everything around her, from facing off against the Hulk to the final battle. I think it makes the character and movie better when she's trust into situations with people out of her power-level and still fights unwaveringly. It would have been a miss to only have super-powerful characters without any grounding.

I agree she was very 'human' in many ways, except for when she jumped off Captain's shield and grabbed onto a hovercraft going ~60mph without getting her arms ripped out of their sockets. That alone is super human IMO.

yea, for the kids. could've been a PG rating, imo.

Action movies in general must drive you up the wall. That's pretty common stuff for a James Bond or Jason Bourne caliber hero.

only track I liked was

but it was only played once.
