I kind of feel the same way, but if I think rationally about it I realize I'm nuts.

I had a CE pre-ordered from Amazon from the first few minutes after they announced it for pre-sale. After thinking long and hard about it I cancelled the pre-order a month ago.

I realized that I had the CEs for WoW and Starcraft II and that those have sat in a box in my attic since their purchase. I've never done anything with any piece of those special editions. I was collecting them more as a "That's so cool, I want it!" thing rather than a "I really want to use all the stuff in that box" kind of thing.

It was quite liberating to cancel the D3 pre-order and switch to the regular unit. :)

Dammit don't say this. I feel the same way. Is it worth waiting till it arrives the next day just to have the CE? The only way I'm justifying it is as a way to replace my lost D2 copy and tie that to my b.net account.

I have been toying with the idea of cancellation though for a little while now.

Blizzard confirmed that would be making 2 expansions for D3. Each on about 2 years apart, and know Blizzard it could take longer. View this as a long supported game just as LOD was.

Blizzard always supports their games long term. Them and Valve seem like the only company left that you can really count on for this.

Yup, It seems I always have games from those companies pre-bought as I never end up passing them up. I have my Apocalypse HL3 fund safely tucked away.

I hope I can buy the CE at a later date. I got lucky with Burning Crusade CE and got it months after it was launched for half the price from an Amazon seller.

Blizzard has a track record of long supporting their games, but I think that has more to do with it taking such a long time to get the new iteration out. I know they dont have to do it, but it is a way to keep peoples interest in the franchise. If it didnt take them 10 plus years to release a new game in the franchise, I dont think their support would last this long. I havent kept up with Brood Wars since SC2 released, but how has their support of BW been since the release of SC2?

I guess time will tell when D3 is released and how long they continue to support D2/LoD. It would be nice to see content updates similar to WoW, but it is understandable why they dont want to go this route. I would like to see some special rare boss mobs/events that happen a few times a year, sort of like the Diablo clone or Cow level. Im not kidding anyone though, as long as the loot is shiny and interesting, I will continue to run the same dungeons and bosses for years like D2/LoD

I think they stopped updating BW some time before SC2 came out.

As said in the interview at the top of page, no content updates. It'll probably just be in expansions.

I'm pretty sure that 1.13d is the last D2 patch. They went out of their way to try and make it a big deal (and added in respecs) and they've pretty much said that with the recent ladder reset on May 2nd that they're doing the reset "one last time" before the D3 release. It really sounds like they're going to stop doing stuff with D2 after D3 releases (although they'll keep the servers on, thankfully. EA, take notes, this is how you keep a fanbase).

To be honest, I'm surprised they supported these games as long as they did, and kept adding in useful functionality. When they released the D2LOD and SC/BW patches that took out the "disc in drive" check entirely...I mean, obviously you could have run a patch to do that before, but to know that Blizzard officially sanctioned it, and then right on the heels of that did the B.Net 2 thing where you could just tie it to your account and just download it...good times.

I believe it was a fairly small team that was still supporting LOD, so it wasn't too hard for Blizzard to do. Especially ever since their cash cow came into being.

I don't know, considering that 2 years is actually the timespan to release WoW expansions I'd say that it shouldn't be so off, WoW expansions require much more work due to the different nature of the game.

Cool, I guess SC2 will only being going on 2 years this summer. Seeing how awesome HotS is going to be D3 x1 is going to be fucking amazing. New Act and classes + what ever the hell else. D3 isn't even out and I'm pumped for even more.

Considering skipping class to wait for the OT :|

I think the guy doing OT said between Tuesday and Thursday the latest so may want to reconsider skipping class :)

ROFL go to class! The OT will be there when you get back! It's not like the actual D3 release, that I would give you :P

Well I'm also planning on skipping it to finish writing a paper that is due. Then again the class is a mid term review. I think i fucked myself over this past week with all the anticipation...

So with the battletag system, do we still have to fight over the use of character names? I'm probably going to make a couple characters from start just so I can reserve some :lol

Doesn't make much sense why this just isn't built into the battle.net website =/

Can you add people through SC2 with Battle tags? or is it a D3 only feature. It seems Blizzard doesn't know how to incorporate b.net with all their games. Valve got it right with steamworks.

So is there no where else you can add friends via battletag besides D3? I want to add some more people from GAF

I know. It's the first place I looked when announced.
Launching alongside D3, but it's going to cover all Blizzard games eventually. Sure I read that somewhere.

EDIT: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3124772524

As you may have seen, we have just launched a new feature for Battle.net that will eventually allow you to be known by a name of your choice across all latest Blizzard titles.

It's planned for all games. They know exactly what they're doing.

While I dont see them adding major content patches similar to WoW, mainly due to size difference of the development teams, Blizzard has gone back on their word plenty of times over the years. They said future expansions for WoW were going to be released much quicker than BC, but they havent shorten development times much at all. Runes in D2 were going to remain extremely rare, so they were "special" and hard to obtain, but they have changed drop rate several times. They didnt plan on adding respecs in D2 and it was added later. SC2 expansions were supposed to release quickly after Wings of Liberty, but we will be lucky to see Heart of the Swarm in 2013.

I dont think they have any plans to add major content to D3 at this times, but if the expansions end up taking a long time to release, they will probably give fans something to tie them over. I dont believe Blizzard is trying to deceive the fans, but with their very long development times, they have to do something to keep fans interested and kill some of the complaining.
