Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

While I dont see them adding major content patches similar to WoW, mainly due to size difference of the development teams, Blizzard has gone back on their word plenty of times over the years. They said future expansions for WoW were going to be released much quicker than BC, but they havent shorten development times much at all. Runes in D2 were going to remain extremely rare, so they were "special" and hard to obtain, but they have changed drop rate several times. They didnt plan on adding respecs in D2 and it was added later. SC2 expansions were supposed to release quickly after Wings of Liberty, but we will be lucky to see Heart of the Swarm in 2013.

I dont think they have any plans to add major content to D3 at this times, but if the expansions end up taking a long time to release, they will probably give fans something to tie them over. I dont believe Blizzard is trying to deceive the fans, but with their very long development times, they have to do something to keep fans interested and kill some of the complaining.

Makes me wonder how long after release PvP arenas will come

It really sounds like they're going to stop doing stuff with D2 after D3 releases (although they'll keep the servers on, thankfully. EA, take notes, this is how you keep a fanbase).

Well, they will, if there are 0 players online.

They compromised long time ago, if there are at last 1 player on battlenet for diablo2 they will not shutdown the servers.

I believe in a recent interview Jay Wilson stated that they still had their servers on for Diablo 1, so I'm not really worried.

Now that is a game that I haven't played online in a long long time.

Did you guys get a proper look at the Guest Passes that were shown in the CE unboxing video? I can't remember those being announced as part of the package.

Well they have a started version prepared. It probably is just something like that, although I don't think you need passes for the starter version.

I actually completed a normal run of that with my brother this weekend. Still an excellent game. Quite difficult as well.

Over the summer I did an offline run, does it still have active community or anything online?

I tried playing Diablo 1 coop with a friend not too long ago...it felt overly hard in MP

Oh, and Diablo 1 made me realize how much I hate % to miss in these games. It's probably why I've never played a melee character in D2.

I don't recall them being announced for SC2 either. Not surprised to see them, though.

Hey look, enemies! *swingswingswingswingswingswingswing*

Yeah, I always rolled a rogue, open a door and shiftclick until everything is dead.

Well... the servers are still up, but I didn't really see anyone in the channels. I played a password protected game with my brother, so I don't know whether people would have joined otherwise.

It is quite hard, some of that is due to poor balancing. There are some ranged enemies later on that constantly 'phase out' when you approach them. Which is bullshit when you're a melee character.

I did manage to remember that from when I played the game back in 96/97, so this time I made sure to dump some points in magic. This allowed me to just roast everything with inferno, even though I was technically a warrior.

Those Guest Passes only come with the CE?

I'm trying really hard to convince my friend to play but he never played a ARPG and lives on the other side of the country (so I can't show him). A guest pass would be a perfect way to get him playing... I didn't realize they existed.

cheap and dirty injection moulding ya

:( Geez, I beginning to wonder if getting the CE is worth it. I could care less about the art and the in-game stuff is merely a bonus. I only really wanted the D2 copy and the Skull was supposed to be awesome.

Should I cancel it? Maybe I could redeem all the stuff then sell it down the road to some fanatic collector.

It was joke about D2. Since you rolled a rogue, who is blood raven, which I then killed as a necromancer.

orite.

don't quite know how I missed that. probably because I hated Act I. If not for needing to get cain to ID all my shit I would skip straight to Act II every time.

My SC2 Collectors Edition came with three of those Guest passes. They gave you 14 days usage or 7 hours in the full game (whichever comes first). I would expect it to be the same here.

I gave mine to friends at the time but a few people were selling them on ebay for a few £/$ on release.

Sell it down the road? Unless its a sealed collectors no one will care.

Don't cancel it thats just not smart.

My standard edition SC2 had one guest pass

I believe guest passes come with the both version but if they don't and you need one let me know and I will give you mine.

Anybody actually expected the CE stuff to not be "cheap plastic"? I don't think I ever seen any CE bonus for any games that wasn't super cheap and not worth it.

WAR, two hardcover full colour books and a white metal miniature that regularly goes for £25-30 on ebay still. Even the SC2 dogtag was cast in pewter.

I appreciated it! I might very well take you up on your offer if I don't get one.

I bought the digital copy so unless some code shows up on my BNET account I'm not sure how they would reward me with a guest pass.

Yeah I don't believe the digital version would get guest passes, I will have my CE on the 15th, so just PM me if you need one.

I received a bunch of guest passes for Wow and SC2 when I bought the boxed version of Cataclysm (not CE...). There was at leaset 2-3 for each games in the box. I ended up giving them away to co-workers.

It really depends. You must be completely honest with yourself first. If you are going to be able to resist opening the CE and take the time of selling it, it probably would be worth it to keep the order.

If you are not willing to do those things I would cancel it and just pickup the normal edition instead. It seems like the CE doesn't provide any real extra value to you for the increase in price.

You are the key to your own decision LOI :)
