That's the thing.

But I wonder if it will be a day and date release with the regular edition.

Director's Cut has *released six months later with extra content* written all over it.

you're probably right. maybe barebones first, special edition later. altho they haven't done this with any of the previous Marvel films so i hope not.

Perhaps, but I'd like to see a move away from this model personally. It's not like there's any technical reason a film cut and a director's cut can't both exist on the same BD. With the numbers this is pulling, I'm led to think that if Whedon wills it, it will happen.

Whedon will have absolutely zero say on that regardless of how much pull he's supposed to have now.

A friend of mine posted some stupid political point once, and me along with someone else tried to give them the actual facts of the matter, and then he got butthurt and deleted all the posts..

Not to mention deleted both me and her from his friends list... answer your question?

Whedon isn't really the sort of director who would say something without being sure about it though. It's not like the production was problematic. Everyone is on the same page here, and the movie is a huge success. If he says there is a director's cut on blu-ray, they probably already agreed on it.
Deleted scenes =/= Directors Cut.

But what has that got to do with the Avengers?

I like tuna.

I can't stand people who delete comments that are not bashful in any way whatsoever. That shit during facebook arguments is so revealing, especially when done to multiple people telling you you're a fool.

Incredibly revealing, as well.
Well, I started soft, but when I realized the "author" had no basic reading comprehension (and started to look at my facebook profile looking for things to criticize about me instead of just, you know, directly answer my claims that he wasn't being objective at all) I kicked it up a notch. He made his girlfriend post almost the same things he said previously, word by word. He called this friends to try to bully me and repeat his "the movie sucks because I say so" mantra. My stubborn side emerged but he was far too gone, telling me that I was attacking his site, that I was friends with some "enemies" he has(wtf), that he had the constitutional right to have his own opinion and freedom of speech, that I was trying to change his mind but that he wouldn't change his mind EVER, and called me a fanboy amongst many other things.

I only tried to show him the difference between opinions and facts. Yeah, it wasn't worth it.

ugh.
If Avengers continues its success, I can totally see Marvel doing a standard release, then a Special Edition release near the Holidays.

If you overlook some of the over the top ones, he has some valid points, why attack him and get personal?

Do you want Armond White's contact info?

He made it personal first. Check it out. I was all about "opinions are not facts" and he claimed that he was a comic fan, got mad and started to attack ME, not my claims.

One edition will be coming out near the holidays. The DVD/Blu editions are in production the same time as the movie. Most of the stuff is already locked down and made for it most likely.

Okay then, I'm inclined to agree with Solo.

yesssssssssssssssssssssssss

Okay then, I'm inclined to agree with Solo.

I don't know why this became a Director's cut discussion (I know though!).

Fry8 asked if the bluray release would have 30 minutes of deleted scenes.
Solo said it was to soon to know, reaching wishful thinking.

The I just searched Avengers 30 minutes footage, first result was the blog link with the title:
"Joss Whedon Promises 30 Minutes Of New Footage For Three-Hour ‘Avengers’ Blu-Ray"
I didn't even read it, just went to the source. At the source there was an interview with Whedon which I did not viewed, but thought: well, that link shall suffice.

But look what I've done.

Guys, if you watch the actual interview, Joss doesn't confirm a director's cut. Merely that there is about 30 minutes of deleted scenes.

I sure hope we do get one, but the "director's cut" line in the article is misleading. That isn't confirmed yet.

You are about to be eaten alive by the GAF's finest "Cinematography Scholars".
I too always found Transformers scenes easy to follow and telegraphed even with the amount of pyrotechniques, coreography and camera movement. My only problem is that the robots lose a bit of their distinctive traits amidst all that, leading to questions like "Was that Ratchet or Ironhide"

This is something I don't quite understand but seems to come up often enough in discussions about the Bayformer movies. I think for the Decepticons it could be a fair point but with the autobots they go out of the way to make them all look very different from one another and use color to easily distinguish one another. I mean, Ratchet is a bright neon yellow and Ironhide is all black, I don't see how one could possibly confuse the two unless they hadn't been paying attention at all through three movies.

For me the vastly inferior Spiderman 3 retrospectively diminished the other two films, and made me see Raimi's directing style... I didn't like it. The whole obsession with villains redeeming themselves, the cringeworthy romantic writing. Go back and watch again, it's near "Attack of the Clones" levels of cringe. The CGI isn't really Raimi's fault, but there are numerous other problems with that sequence.

Yeah not blaming Raimi at all for the CGI at all, was just throwing that out there since it was quite noticeable to me. I used to consider Spider-man 2 the top tier comic book superhero movie but not sure if I can say that anymore. I really dislike Tobey Mcguire as Spider-man and felt like he was so much more awkward than Peter Parker had any right to be.

Captain America represents a man from a different time and place who is proud of his country and everything it stands for and isn't ashamed of it. He is larger than life and iconic. I think that's a great concept. I'm not even American, and I don't care for the American government of today or what the country stands for, but I can respect a man like Steve Rogers.

Yeah, I mean, Captain America was created solely as propaganda in response to the German Nazis so considering how they did him I'm completely okay with it. I definitely think it's a noble character trait as he always tries to take the higher ground and do what's right which is something that many superheroes can't claim anymore. When you dig into the comic territory the fact that he doesn't always agree with the US government he still believes in and fights for the original principles that formed the country really makes him a more likable character than most give him credit for. I guess that's one thing I would really like to see moving forward with the Marvel movie universe version of him. I always imagined Captain America as this great leader who shows up on the battlefield and just his mere presence inspires those around him to try harder, to be better.

So directors cut or no?

This is precisely what Cap is to all the other Avengers (there are many instances of Spider-Man totally geeking out..."I'm fighting with CAPTAIN FRIGGIN' AMERICA on my side!"), but I think that in the case of this movie he is still new to the era and people (the other Avengers included) don't quite yet realize just how inspiring he really is and that he does match what the legends told of him.

I think we'll definitely see more of that trait of his going forward, but I liked the way that they didn't all take him very seriously at first, especially Tony who was quite disrespectful, but towards the end they all clearly looked to his leadership. Tony and Steve eventually become extremely close friends and that was written really well, the way they quickly warm up to one another in the movie.

Something I found interesting... I'm getting invites to see it again even though they know I've seen it.

Don't think I've really had that happen before with any movie (not with this group of friends at least).

The problem is more when the quick action is happening and they are twisting and jumping and shooting and running between explosions and quick cuts.

While I know in that still shot that the cleaner designs (north and south) are the Autobots, when shit is going down it may so happen to be confused.

And not all shots the light does a favor to their differences.

But this is coming from someone that was never a Transformers fan, so I did not have any prior identifcation to character types and what not, so that too may have got in the way.
