EA DICE withdrew nearly every official server from BF3 (PS360)

Why is is news NOW? Servers were pulled weeks ago, the day I fully stopped playing BF3. I have a friend who still has not gave up, he had a funny night last week: he went on a nemesis streak against someone. It turned out that he was the admin, so he made my friend getting killed constantly. Like hitting a button: "you were killed by ADMIN", randomly. Even better, we had a match where we were leading by 400 ticket - then the admin decided to flip the teams to not be on the losing team.

They literally killed the game. They have started with the Karkand patch which gave so much power to the helis that they totally ruined the vehicle oriented maps and now this. Well, thank you, that was enough for me to get back to BC2 Vietnam, which is still a far superior game for me.

I can not wait what are they going to do badly with their next Battlefield. There is always something. I think that's their best trait.

I'm glad console users now get to experience the best aspect of player controlled servers: 9/10 admins are worthless pieces of shit!

If you want to play on a DICE/EA Like server on PS3, I set up an all Rush, all maps, 2 rounds per map (with default settings) server.

Server Name: P8675309 EA/DICE Server *Unofficial"

way to go with the hyperbole... i list pretty reasonable claims in a reasonable fashion and you're talking about pitchforks and EA haters?

Sorry should I have put an under line to score it out, it was really for the thread people jumping in say EA Byahhh!!!!!, and not realize what this thread is all about

The problem with letting the user community control stuff is they can't help but mess with it. If you want to play the game the way the developer designed and balanced it, you're usually shit out of luck. That's where this whole issue becomes a much larger problem. It's like they want no ownership of the game after they build it.

I've always had a problem with this since the dawn of servers eons ago with Quake. You just want to play the vanilla game and you're forced into all these mods or rules changes that make it no fun and you have to dig around to find the game you really want to play. Sometimes, that's impossible to find! It's frustrating as hell and reflects badly on the publisher and developer at the end of the day.

I agree. That is why I set up my servers the way I do. All defaults.

The servers BF2142 demo, a demo for a 6 year old game, was only shut down a few months ago...
And they shut down the servers for the latest NFS demo about a month or two after it was released, meaning I couldn't even actually play the demo single player as it tries to log in as soon as you boot it up. Way to go EA.

God damn EA never ceases to amaze me.

I wish their stocks plummet to shock their heads out of their asses.
This. I mean, every move, it seems like they are dicking people over. My friends said "oh, thats just smart on their part to only let people rent servers rather than creating their own". Now they are pissed because there are no "standard servers". Its all "Karkand 24/7 with 400% tickets."

bf has worked this way since 2005

this is just an exact replica of how it works on pc, and yes, those old bf games are still running

On the PC can't you run your own server? If this is how it works then I don't feel BF3 is good enough to pay $30 a month to play - does it cost the same on the PC?

I hope EA sinks they suck as a consumer company.

For all the EA defenders... an interview with EA DICE executive producer Patrick Bach.
http://uk.gamespot.com/news/battlef...ng-secondhand-users-for-online-report-6326395
And while Bach indicated that secondhand owners will be required to pay for access to Battlefield 3's online multiplayer, he stopped short of associating it with EA's Online Pass program.

"I'm not sure I want to call our system an Online Pass," he said. "The whole idea is that we're paying for servers. If you create a new account, there is a big process on how that is being handled in the back end. We would rather have you buy a new game than a used game because buying a used game is only a cost to us; we don't get a single dime from a used game, but we still need to create server space and everything for you."

"We want people to at least pay us something to create this because we're paying for it," he continued.
"It was actually a loss for us to have new players. Hopefully people understand why. It's not to punish people. To us, it's compensation."

They are still running the same server racks as before, still incurring the same costs as before. The only difference is that they have opened up those servers to people who want to play the game they want. And it seems to be working considering these servers are so populated with much demand for the rentals.

400% tickets on Kharg Island, Grand Bazaar, and Nose Hair Canal. -__-

Glad I didn't buy that game, it's so tedious enduring 1 map for over an hour...

Imagine a small map... like op metro... for 2 hours.

Your loss I suppose

It's a fucking riot, doing stupid shit on the map

I have done Acog Shotty 870 with Frag Rounds, I was in tears from the laughter of the kills I was getting

You get to try shit out, there are time to be serious and play legit, sometimes you just want to fuck around, you could have the best of both worlds with-in the same game

it seems to be working for EA/DICE because they're cashing in... but the player count is around the same level as it was before... i dunno if the average time per player has went up or down though...

Pretty sure they're cheaper on consoles. But you can also run your own if you have your own server and know how to set it up. All you'd be paying for is electricity in that case.

Also, EA not making it tough to stop supporting them in any way imaginable.

The big difference is on the pc if you have the hardware be it a laptop or even a desktop you can make your own dedicated machine. I only advocate this should be the same for console players fuck using p2p uncontrolled long term. The tech is already there in terms of software they just don't give you access to it.

You cannot run your own server on BF3 PC. You have to rent it. There is so much misinformation in this thread.

I suppose it doesn't matter anyway, since when BF4 comes out, they'll turn off BF3 multiplayer entirely to get you to buy the new game.
Edit: And it's posts like these the fuel some laughably irrational reactions in this thread. Oh yeah, they'll turn off the BF3 servers just like they did for BC2 when BF3 came out. They'll turn off the servers just like they did for BF2 when BF2142 came out. Oh wait, they didn't because as long as there are still players renting servers and playing the game, the game stays alive. We're examining the Battlefield franchise here people, a completely different entity than some sports game EA releases every year.

I've seen some justified EA complaining in the past, but this isn't one of them. All I see is a lot of fear-mongering for something that has been the norm for the franchise on PC.

Wow... do these guys even think this stuff through for a second? The used game is a new user that replaced an old one. You're not making room for a new guy, you're just replacing someone. Duh.

An entry in a database table doesn't cost what they're claiming it costs them.

Well technically your extending the average "life" of a copy, therefore extending the upkeep costs, and despite being the same copy it's still a new user/character/data/etc in their servers. But still it's bs PR, they just want a bit of the used market pie and server costs have nothing to do with it.

It boils down to the fact that I bought this game based on a predictable MM experience that allowed all weapons, had predictable ticket counts, etc. That experience no longer exists. They basically replaced MM with custom game MM, and those who host these custom games have to pay.. Which is a cool feature, if it didn't fucking replace the standard experience.

I dont want to hit quickmatch and find out I am in a server with 500 tickets, and a ton of random weapon limitations.. I also don't want to spend a long time in the server list trying to find something that matches my wants. I just want a fucking standard predictable MM filter that exists alongside the custom servers.

Its alot more than a entry in a database. You also have to consider that whoever traded in the game at first probably didn't close their account, therefore doubling the requirement with only one payment. There is alot of truth to what he is saying.

Doubling what requirement? A row in the database? Seriously... anyone who works in IT will tell you that it is not costing them much of anything here.

congrats EA you've earned it.

Well, as soon as I posted what I did earlier I get kicked from one game and banned from another for nothing. Well, I was running around the first map with the L96, I guess they didn't like that, then for the ban I took out my L96 and killed three of their guys camping in a house (what I intended to do) and stopped someone from knifing a teammate. Wonder which one was the admin.

So basically, we have to pay for servers that were already there? Why rent them then?

Edit: i love the way some games put everything in but the kitchen sink for customization and free, and these guys let you customize, but for the price of a server rental. Nice one EA. Then you wonder why you fail.

Vietnam with the paper helis?

and the DICE servers were definitely around 2 weeks ago, though there weren't as many as before...

That is literally the only negative thing I could say about BC2 Vietnam. For me, its perfect in every other sense. And i totally agree with Marleyman, I hoped that with the patches they will finally allow guns to hurt helis, but no, they even boosted it's damage, which is just ridiculous.

As everything is BF3 related. The first DLC comes 8 months afther the initial release. EIGHT.MONTHS. And it's not even a "Battlefield DLC", because forcing players into small maps, tight corridors, infantry only is not something one wants from a Battlefield game, I think. And who know when that vehicle oriented DLC will come (I've heard August) and what miserable changes they will implement with it - they have infinite ways to go wrong and they always do. Like with the APC's in vanilla: they go full stop if their health is below 100%. Or with the tanks: the machine gunner can not hurt mines...

I can't say how disappointed I am with the game and with DICE, because it was on of my most beloved franchise of all times and now... Now I'am just hoping for tomething good in the team-based shooter genre. My only hope left is CS: GO but seeing what Valve did with TF2 on the xbox 360...

the first DLC was 2 months after... B2K!

I have only been kicked by an admin once for playing too well. It's really one time too many though, it should never be allowed on ranked servers. So should I assume Dice servers will be part of BF3 Elite or whatever they are calling it?

Sorry but you are the one being the idiot here. Paying for dedicated servers is something that has been happening for decades, it's not just something EA came up with... And It's not just about choosing how many tickets...
Paying to rent dedicated servers and only allowed to from the company that made the game. Oh, and the servers EA pays for have been shut down, thanks for playing! Rent your server for $30/month now!

the first DLC was 2 months after... B2K!

For me, thats not a "real" DLC , it was included for free with all limited editions - for example, in my region (central europe), only the limited edition was on sale, so everyone got it "free" here. I am talking about new content packs, coming frequently. But not like this, waiting more than half a year. The same was promised (frequent updates) for bc2 and they failed there too.

So you just really want to play on those Ea servers?
If it is the same as on pc the official servers are 99% of the time empty or not even showing up with the best ping.

Why all this whining ?

In the glourious and perfect golden days of pc online playing it's always been like this.

Games are getting more expensive to buy, and now they will also be costing more money when playing online.... this is such a fucking stupid move its crazy. People will buy more iPhone games for around 2 dollars than to play these super expensive shit games.
