Just had a coworker mention. "Finally saw The Avengers, it was okay, I thought it was going to be better. Hulk looked like shit, though. He was better in the second one."
How does this opinion even exist?

They finally nailed Hulk in this movie.
The only problem with I had was that he kept reverting to that one hunched pose. Like one side of his body was heavier than the other
Wasn't Kirby's Hulk kind of ape like?

This puzzled me, too. My theory is that when Hulk emerges, he has to destroy something. With Black Widow, she was the only person there, so he locks on. Same with the harrier jet. During the invasion, the city is filled with targets who are actually aggressive so they seem to take precedence.I don't get why the Hulk was out of control and chasing Black Widow when you first see him, but then later Banner has no problem controlling him. Did I miss something?

Hulk hates SHIELD. They're treating Hulk and Banner as seperate personalities. He can control the transformation, but Hulk acts based on who he wants to fight the most.I don't get why the Hulk was out of control and chasing Black Widow when you first see him, but then later Banner has no problem controlling him. Also while we're on the topic of days
Sunday - literally Sun Day
Monday - Moon Day
Tuesday - Tyr's Day (Norse god)
Wednesday - Odin's Day (Norse god)
Thursday - Thor's Day (Norse god)
Friday - Freya's Day (Norse god)
Saturday - Saturn Day (named after the planet, which was named after a Roman god)

tl;dr Thor 2 better release in the US on a Thursday (they did it for Australia on the first Thor)

That bugged me to until I was thinking why did they bother planning on getting Loki captured and then attacking the helicarrier at all? All it was a warm up exercise for the Avengers, Loki would have been better off just attacking NYC and skipping the dumb attack which was just an excuse for a big action scene in the end.

It was amplifying the thoughts they already had.People seriously didn't notice that Loki's staff was affecting everyone, and thus also the Hulk? The camera focused on the staff for like 10 seconds!
Uh, cuz it wasn't the same? The second time he was trying to take him over completely, on the helicarrier it was more like a general signal the thing was emitting. It was amplifying the thoughts they already had.
And how did it affect Tony if it didn't work the 2nd time, huh
HUH
HUH
The origin of the word Thursday is outright shown in Thor.
Yeah I was hoping there wasn't a crazy answer to that, it was just skin contact I guess. That was a different aspect of the staff. When he touches there heart with the staff, the tezzeract power turns them into slaves into the owner of the staff.
Tony's heart is protected by the ark reactor.
Seriously. Banner picks up the staff to make it even more obvious.I'm amazed that so many people ask the same question about how Banner was able to control the Hulk during the final battle. Not just here on gaf, but other forums I frequent and in real life.
It clicked for me the first time I saw it.

The bits of humor, specifically [spoilers]Loki tapping Stark and going, "This usually works." and Hulk punching Thor[/spoiler], really improved the movie for me. I love Nolan's Batman flicks, but Avengers is a nice counterpoint that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Well this came in the mail today:

Whelp that settles it. Scrap Avengers 2, reboot.Where's Coulson? Oh, that's right. He's dead.
Whelp that settles it. Scrap Avengers 2, reboot.
And bring Daniel Craig as Coulson.
The people confused by the staff thing would probably love the old Claremont X-Men stuff where every time any one uses a power they have to go to great depths yelling out whatever it is they're exactly doing![]()
Characters verbally describing what they're doing is super old school, even for ClaremontThe people confused by the staff thing would probably love the old Claremont X-Men stuff where every time any one uses a power they have to go to great depths yelling out whatever it is they're exactly doing![]()
Jack Kirby could make it work, DAMMIT *shakes fist*They could also use 60s cover writing.
"OH NO! THE WICKED VILLAIN LOKI, BROTHER OF THOR, HAS USED HIS MAGIC STAFF OF OUTER SPACE... TO TURN THE INCREDIBLE HULK AGAINST US, THE AVENGERS!"

The staff was obviously the case, but I don't like it because it kinda robs the scene/characters of real tension.

Man, comic book writers back in the day got away with so much crap back then...
I *heart* Superdickery.
So Loki was controlling Hulk? How did he get the initial control over him? He never tapped him or anything. Banner picking up the staff is kind of a question mark for me--why did he pick it up in the first place? If Loki already was controlling him at that point, it is not really explained how he was doing it, as he never tapped him. And if it started after he picked up the staff, why did he pick it up in the first place?
And how did the control break?
Not saying I disagree, just curious how this went down.
