Only working on this for like an hour a week, but it is slowly evolving. It started as a regular bar with a stage for a band, but it is slowly morphing into a coffee bar for acoustic night or poetry readings. Think I can add more little details with that.

Trying some weird stuff with LDD. It is neat having unlimited bricks, but really, REALLY hard to get the chains to do what I want in the program. Was going to use string parts for ropes but could not find them.

Looking good so far. You might want to turn the brick highlights in the LDD on though, just so you can keep track of the stability of your building.

VW Camper just arrived, as did mini hulk, fastest turn around from Lego.com yet.

Big Hulk was so upset at the arrive of mini hulk, he tore wolverine in two... :O

THANK YOU! Was looking for an option like that as I kept going. I am always checking what I am connecting to as I lay bricks down, since it adds a highlight when you are about to connect stuff. But seeing an outline all the time is a godsend. Had no idea to look for that. Thank you.

what are you using for the curves around the door? Looks really flush. Is it a normal curved brick and then a slope to blend into the wall? Can't see the seam which is confusing me.

you going to share the LDD when you're done?

looks like a small 1x1 sloped tile, next to a 2x1 tile followed by a normal arch

The outlines show a bit more how I did it. It seems to work, but need to actually build a piece of it with actual bricks to test it.

Don't have time to find the bricklink pics of the pieces used, but if you click the pics for original sized ones and zoom in you can tell. It is only a slight change to the Fire Brigade brick texture, with the end being a curved piece going around behind it. I then used a 1x1 piece with inlaid stud with on stud sticking out to connect to the bottom of the curved piece.
I know the wall is unstable at the front for now, but once the pieces across the top get connected above the door it should stabilize. Basically only as stable as the front of the Fire Brigade second floor wall.

Ok, quick question. Which set will be going OOP next?

Grand Emporium
Pet Shop
Tower Bridge
VW Bus
Imperial Shuttle

Would like to get a big purchase out of the way. :D

well they are all from 2010, the other two from 2011.
apart from that I think its difficult to say.
anyway I ordered Grand Emporium for exactly that reason.

I've been reading this topic since I purchased the Imperial Flagship, of which I swore it would be my only Lego purchase. I just wanted to say that it's your fault that in the last two months I purchased a Volkswagen camper van, a Space Shuttle and an Imperial Shuttle, am € 390 poorer and still can't hate you for it.

Pics, because my post is even more meaningless without them:

And the one that would have stood alone:

The shuttle has yet to arrive, because Lego couldn't fulfill TC-14 demand, or something like that.

Edit: I'm sorry for the poor quality, my phone doesn't like to take pictures in the dark.

nice :)
and we all feel for/with you ;)
Now its time to get the Modulars :D

Yeah, I was hoping I could just skip those modulars. I wouldn't be able to buy just three, let alone one. That would be € 450 in one purchase (because they would look so alone on their own) and at the moment I really can't spare that kind of money. The € 390 in two months was bad enough.

Still, the more I read this topic, the more I know it is inevitable.

You can console yourself with the knowledge you now have probably the 4 most beautiful sets lego currently produce.

Lego should send you the shuttle straight away, and the TC14 later on.

Modulars - either ignore them completely, or jump in with both feet. I don't think there is a middle ground. I tried buying the mini modulars, thinking they'd satisfy me, but they just made me wonder what they'd look like full size :)

Looking good, I'd personally push back the building a bit to give it some more sidewalk, I can imagine it may look a little odd having clear sidewalks on official mods to have a blocked one. Just my opinion though.

Had the sidewalk clear at first but started to think of tables and whatnot. I am still on the fence. I don't want to push the wall back though because then it would not line up with other modulars.

Thanks for feedback though.

as long as the overall building fits with modular guidelines, so your front walls line up, the sidewalk is the same size and the technics pegs all fit, I think you're fine. Other sets have things sticking out on the sidewalk - as long as minifolk can get past I don't see the problem.

Maybe you could get rid of the cheese slopes right at the front, that'd create enough space I think. If you want some sloping, perhaps a cone at the bottom to give some shape, although I like the cheese slopes on the sides

I'd drop the little lamps on those chain things, you already have street lights and the 2 lights in the entrance, they also seem a bit oversized.

they might be patio heaters? In which case maybe remove the entrance lamps to avoid confusion? Or redesign them.

edit

orange trans orbs then definitely.

and perhaps larger dishes on top? And/or lighter coloured - aren't patio heaters silver topped?

Dropping the front cheese slopes for sidewalk access is a good idea. I do like the ones on the sides.

As for the lamps over the tables, perhaps dropping them down or making them space heaters could be neat. Or perhaps into plants. But looking at it, the lamp on the chain post next to the tall lamp post is overkill. The lights near the door will most likely stay.

The spacing for the pegs and sidewalk do match modular guideline. Was sure to keep that. Brainstorming interior details now. Trying to figure out a simple yet neat espresso machine to build for the coffee bar.

Just finished the first level of the Town Hall. Felt like it took way longer than normal though it was probably because I was watching tennis at the same time.

It will eventually look like shit. Maybe consider changing th color scheme.
Unfortunately, changing the color scheme is not an option. My MOC is Orthanc, so all black. I'm absolutely thrilled with how it turned out in LDD, so I'm dying to actually order the pieces and build it. I may just settle for the steep price because a lot of the other pieces are actually quite cheap, so that will somewhat offset the high cost of the rare pieces.

An alternative to painting might be dyeing. I just read an article about altering the color of LEGO pieces here: http://www.fineclonier.com/101_2v2_Altering_the_color_of_LEGO_elements_-_Paints,_Dyes,_&_More.pdf. In my case, considering that I need a deep black, dyeing sounds like the better alternative. Since it's black, I probably don't have to worry about color consistency if I don't immerse each batch of bricks in the dye for a consistent amount of time. I think I might just grab some dye and test it out on some cheap light gray bricks and see how it looks. I think this might work out okay since I'm going from light gray to black. Anybody have any experience with dyes?

Market Street is a retired modular set, too, right? The blue building.

Market Street was not originally part of the "modular" series (though there wasn't much of a series back then), but was a LEGO Factory release (fan-built official projects). Since that time, LEGO has decided to make it part of the modular series.

I'm not a fan of the design, so I just ignore it. :)

Sorry if this is already known/posted, but if you're in the UK then Boots have some nice online savings:
£30 off Rupublic Frigate (7964) and Anakin's and Sebulba's podracers (7962)
As well as more offers here

Spend over £40 for free postage and spend over £85 to use code"PPCVCCK85" to get 10% off.

Don't know how good these are, but I've just bought the Podracers and the Creator Hillside House (£10 off RRP) as they seem to be OK deals (especially the two £30 off sets, I nearly bought the Frigate too, but decided not to in the end).

I posted a MOC x-wing design a few weeks ago. The pieces from bricklink arrived a while back and I wanted to post the pics of my completed x-wing. I made many changes to the design while building it. When designing in LDD you don't exactly get a feel for the stability in some areas.

That stand is just temporary for the pictures only. I was debating whether or not to build an actual stand. Maybe one day.

Really nice work here. It looks like your ship is a hybrid of the current x-wing and the original 1999 set, specifically how the s-foils/wings open manually.

I recently turned 30, and this is my parents present for me:

Official Lego branded containers sold at an appliance/decoration stuff shop :)

Ok guys, advice time.
They are selling the imperial shuttle locally for 200 instead of 260.
Personally I'm not too fussed about the model, but I'm thinking I can sell it in a year or two for a healthy profit...
Am I correct in that assumption?

It has been the case with all past UCS sets so I say you can hope to at the very least make back your investment.

The temptation to build it will be much too high. Give in boy, give in to the dark side.

How can you not like that model, it's the best of all Star Wars sets ever (apart from the UCS millennium falcon).

But yeah, I guess it'll most definitely go for much more in a couple of years. I just bought my imperial flagship last december for €150, after 4/5 months it's already up to €250 on ebay, and people buy it. The Shuttle is a Star Wars set, so unless the Lego bubble collapses you'll make a profit.

Ok, the box has a minimal rip on the side.
And how much would building it but keeping all the origimal wrapping and parts diminish its price?

I'm no expert, but usually being sealed or not matters a lot. Still, the previously mentioned flagship goes for about €200 built, you'll still make a profit I guess.

just came back from our local lego store with this bad boy:
Foto%2018.05.12%2019%2036%2034.jpg

on the counter they asked for my vip card but since i dont have one yet it was possible to do it right in the store.
the clerk forgot my hulk minifig, good thing i remembered just when i went outside.
so i went back and got my lil hulk.
the mini tie fighter was from my order on may 5th, it came in the mail today.
i also wanted to take a look at the lotr sets but they didnt had them instore, also no sign of the marvel sets.
althought they seem to be available on amazon.de.
but it is better this way since my lego limit of this month is reached ;)

The mini modular is so worth it. I know people say it's just cheap little pieces but that thing looks like ART you can decorate your home with. Good pick up!

How's the Shuttle Expedition set? I'm digging the price-to-pieces ratio and it looks like a good build.

It's great, the only problem is the gap in the doors that cover the satellite. The build is pretty straight forward, with a nice system for the wheels. Out of the two sets I've got with a comparable price I prefer the Volkswagen van though.
Also getting those clear blue blocks even though you don't see them is a nice bonus.

but im scared that his will lead to the dark path (aka i want all minimodules...)
they are so expensive...

I've walked that "dark path", and its awesome... You come out the other side of it with some of the best lego sets on the market. So be not afraid, and walk that path with your head held high.

Got my "damaged" falcon 7965 from amazon Warehouse Deals today. Box looked like it had been stepped on, nothing too serious. Opened it, everything in perfect condition. Saved me over $30 :) I will definitely try more sets like this when I see them.

I see a hogwarts castle on there now... dare I risk again.

Wallet... you shall bleed (further)

Picked this Naboo set up today. I went looking for Lord of the Rings sets, but nothing today. Tomorrow it's off to the Lego store for a look see. I may buy them all.

well they do look very awesome.
i think i will give myself the grand emporium for my birthday in july.
btw is there already a flyer of the june promotions?
i think i read that there will be a mini version of the camel(?) airplane

LEGO storage question time.

According to my collection report on Bricklink, between all of my sets I have about 70,000pcs (including 500 minifigs). The problem of storage is starting to rear its ugly head. Up to this point, I've kept all the pieces in the boxes they came in, but the amount of space over 100 sets take up is getting a bit much.

How do those of you also with large collections handle the storage dilemma? Do you keep your sets together, do you break them apart and separate the pieces into organizer boxes? Do you put all the pieces (from a set or a theme/year) together in a zip-loc bag and flatten the boxes? Do you rent a storage container?

Got the cruiser Wednesday after you all recommended it so much. Built the actual model i was interested and took some photos here at work. I like it so much!

So for some reason my sonic boom order from Amazon UK came back undeliverable and I got refunded. Not sure what happened, the address was correct and I assume they never would have shipped it if there was a problem shipping to the US.

I guess I'll just try to order again, looks like it's slightly cheaper now actually.

Traffic on the way home from work sucked. Normally a half hour drive but it took over an hour today. Frakkin' Friday commuters!

But it was worth it because Toys R Us had this:

Toys R Us tax be damned! I want that Werewolf!

Funny too that I sent my coupon for Toys R Us to someone on here so I couldnt use it. LOL.

The LOTR sets were there too, but I must pace myself. Those are months off. But the Werewolf figure is too awesome.
