Nvidia Kepler - Geforce GTX680 Thread - Now with reviews

Yeah even if this is the consumer part they're showing it's going to be a long way out before it starts coming into existence. We knew a lot about the GK104 long before it ever showed up. I would not wait for this, catch the tech on your next upgrade after. I would expect the consumer GK110 however to be largely the same as this. Aren't the main differences with the Tesla cards just the firmware?

since I've been on Windows 7 I always just install on top, never had a single issue that way. Gotta love the future.

any word on a release timeframe? i'm trying to plan my next complete build very carefully. unless they say otherwise i'm going to assume Q2 2013

I thought it was always late 2012. August even. Welcome to Moore's law. Graphics cards weren't updating as fast as usual for a couple years and 2012 is catching up. Maybe console R&D is accelerating things.

It's probably going to be $600. You should be able to beat it with GTX 670 SLI for about the same price by then.

2013 is going to be GTX 7xx and AMD 8xxx. AMD should close the gap a bit with performance with their rearchitecture in Sea Islands.

A year from now is going to be an excellent time to build a new PC. Intel Haswell + next gen video cards + fast/cheap/512GB SSD. Looking forward to it.

Still haven't heard anything from the Dutch store I've ordered at. Hmmm.

Am getting the rest of the parts on friday though. Hope the 670 will follow suit.

oh ok, so I do I overclock it? And if I overclock it will it run at that mhz the whole time no matter if what im doing is gpu intensive or not?

Well you should keep something gpu intensive running, like furmark or heaven in window mode, then look at afterburner, and turn it up slowly.

Just got my new PC up and running! Here's my new specs:

Core i5 2500K 3.7GHz
16GB RAM
Gigabyte 670

Amazing performance! I haven't even OC'ed anything yet, and I'm getting incredible results on every game I'm testing out! Extremely pleased w/ this card!

Ok I have heaven running in the background and afterburner still just shows 705 mhz... so should I just up the clock speed from there?

I just updated to AB 2.2.1 and now it has a +0 instead of 705 (core Clock) and +0 for Mem clock as well. Im even more confused!

Thats the correct version to use. The +0 is the offset, it doesn't say anything about your current clock. I use EVGA precison, but I believe for afterburner, you need to press the "I" on the top right to see your current stats.

So much for the Asus 670 card releasing on the 16th. Beginning to believe what the retailers told me, that it won't be released until end of may/early june. Let me know if anyone sees the Asus 680 Top card available, might go for that one if people aren't price gouging.

My MSI GTX 670 is on the truck to be delivered today. Pretty excited to get this thing up and running. Can't wait to run some dibalo 3 goodness on it.

Does anyone have any experience with EVGA Precision and if its better to use than MSI Afterburner? I've been using Afterburner for a few years now but Precision looks to be more suited to overclocking my 670. Or am I incorrect?

Looks like Evga is recalling their 670s instead of just replacing RMA'd cards.

e: Evga rep saying that they're still sticking to RMAs http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1598752

Just reinforces my decision to go with the Asus 670.

This is the reason I prefer to stick with EVGA cards. They let their customers know there is an issue and are going as far as to upgrade their customers to a more expensive card at no cost. They're even sending you the new card in advance of you sending the defective card back on their dime.

I switched to Precision, it feels a bit more professional and looks better. Afterburner just feels cheap.

Everything works perfectly

I couldn't wait till this weekend to try out a 690 in quad SLI. Just installed and played a few minutes of Metro 2033.

And wow... amazing performance. With everything maxed out (including advanced DoF enabled, 4xMSAA, advanced physics), it's buttery smooth at 2560x1600. A few graphic intensive games like Metro 2033, Battlefield 3, Crysis 1&2 etc should scale very nicely with 690 Quad SLI. From what I've seen at Playwares benchmark, some of those titles scale as good as 85% over a single 690.

Just ran a quick 3DMark11 Extreme benchmark test before I go to bed. (This is my first time running 3DMark11 bench in the last ten years. Never cared to run it. But what the hell) Anyway, everything @ stock. Here it is.

Now I need to sleep for tomorrow.

So what kind of performace boost is to be expected if I upgrade to a single GTX680 from Crossfired HD5850s on an I5-2500k@4.6GHz? I'd love to hear the impressions of someone with a similar set up.

evga has the best warranty of all time. I don't think I will go with anything less than a lifetime warranty, those people actually care.

Evga has no kepler cards with a lifetime warranty. After their warranty changes earlier this year they're just average in that regard.

This is standard procedure. Only people who purchased the SC get the FTW (though that is nice). Evga is the only company that failed to produce a quality batch of 670s. From what Evga has said it was not their entire batch 670 SCs, only a small part of it.

so my gainward GTX 680 PHANTOM is arriving on friday. What games CAN'T I play on max settings 1080p? Is there even one?

I'm planning to OC the card to 1200 core (its 1084 stock I believe) so keep that in mind

Witche 2 in uber mode. Crysis 2 with the Hi Res Pack and DX11 will cause some drops here and their. Perhaps some 64 player BF3 at max detail/ultra settings. Metro 2033 DX 11 w/high tess. I think that might it though.

I think we both are the only 2 owners of 2x690's!!! When you get a chance, run 3dmark11 in the "P" mode and post your results...just wondering what it is since I have not run the "X" one yet myself.

Although I game on my HDTV at 1080p and I know many will say 2x690's is a waste, I am seriously considering getting that Dell Monitor you have. Can you provide any feedback on it? I read it has a 7ms repsonse time which to me is pretty high and reading some reviews in fast moving scenes it can smear..is that the case for you?

I am still in the thinking phase since it will require for me to buy a desk, desk chair, wireless adapter, speakers for my PC. Right now it is hooked up next to my entertainment center with my 5.1 set up...but too many people are telling me 2560x1600 is the promised land...lol

IMO, EVGA QA is not good. That's why they had lifetime warranty, lol. I remember EVGA cards being cheaper than the rest but now their prices are the same as everyone else and their quality hasn't improved. It just baffles me to why people would rather pay $419 for 670 SC when MSI has it for $399 or Gigabyte has it for $399 with custom cooler. I would place Asus/MSI/Gigabyte quality over EVGA/PNY/Galaxy. The only way I'd ever go EVGA again is if their cards are cheaper than the others and if I ever decide to watercool. No way am I going reference again.

Asus 680 DirectCU TOP version for preorder at Amazon. I preordered it but if the 670 comes out first i'll probably cancel and reorder that instead.

Gigabyte GTX 670 and Asus DCII TOP GTX 670 are benchmarked on this site. Sorry, its in a foreign language.

Looks like the Asus sacrifices temperatures for a quieter card. The Gigabyte and Asus probably perform the same noise wise if you let the temps on the gigabyte slip. I'm getting really tired of waiting for the DC2 and might just jump on the windforce instead since it has a little better overclocking potential.

Honestly dude, the Gigabyte has been the most impressive card I've ever owned. Nevemind the performance, just even the temps and noise levels are so amazing. Great quality, you won't regret it

Two german stores actually show the ASUS available. It seems like that proposed date (next monday) seems quite right, if the cards are slowly dropping in.

It looks like the noise is nearly the same unless you force the fans to full blast (fans don't need to go above 40% according to review). At full load the gigabyte is nearly 1dBA higher but 11c cooler! Very nice when you also consider the performance gained from OC'ing. Looks like a pretty clear win for gigabyte except for that damn blue pcb :(

Temps
no load 32c, full load 63c (gigabyte)
no load 34c, full load 74c (asus)

dBA
no load 37.5, full load 39.4, maximum fan 58.9 (gigabyte)
no load 37.2, full load 38.6, maximum fan 47.2 (asus)

I'm just trying to make my build all red and black :p Like I said in the other thread, if I can't get an Asus this time next week the Gigabyte will do, it would just clash with the red and black that the rest of my setup has (although those dBA numbers are interesting, I'm guessing I'd have to run my fan closer to max to keep the temps down due to not having an exhaust fan at the moment).

You can order an evga 680 backplate if it is that much of an issue.

My Palit GTX 670 Jetforce arrived today great card and finally i have a PC that can handle Crysis. The Card is really quiet and the temps are lower than my MSI 5770 Hawk.

And how quiet is it compared to the Hawk? I have the same 5770 and I want my new card as quiet as that. Thats the reason I'm waiting for the ASUS.

dabs has the asus 670 top in stock for £350 if anyone's interested.

Why the hell are the UK's prices so much higher than the rest of the EU?

Sorry to be that guy, but I haven't had a chance to follow the thread in the last month, but any indication/rumors on the gtx660. I currently have a 560ti, the 670 is looking like a great upgrade, but i'd like to see what the 660 offers before I make a purchase. Thought.?

I can't believe these cards are still sold out everywhere. I'm waiting on the EVGA 680 FTW+ 4GB to be re-stocked, does anyone have one of these cards yet?

Quick update, apparently the 301.40s still doesn't fix the 3D clock bug, just a heads-up.

Also - PCI-E 3.0 isn't enabled, yet. :( Saw maybe 5-10% improvement in quad scaling...but I guess I only played one long round of BF3 so maybe there's more to it. We'll see in time, I guess.

I want 4 of them. But I'm going to wait until the availability is there. Most places limit your purchase to 1 and I'm not going through all of that rigamarole. It was worth it for the jump to 680...but not from 2GB to 4GB. :)
