Diablo III |OT2| Queues Rise. Servers Fall.

Opened tp, returned to town and saved. When I loaded the game the portal was gone, my char at some random wp and I lost the last quest. Think I'm done for a while, When I'm not getting killed by lag I'm randomly losing chars and progress. And the AH is a fucking broken mess, search times out pretty much every single time.
There is no "Save" in Diablo 3... you just exited the game and, when you resumed, it brought you to your last Checkpoint.

Your character stats, items, stash, and crafting levels are constantly sync'd but your quest progress only saves at checkpoints and since maps are randomly generated there's no such thing as "saving your map" since it will be regenerated when you start the game again. If the map saved that means it would always be the same and that kind of goes against almost all of what Diablo is about.

All this DH sucks late game talk confuses me. DH definitely have the highest single target damage late game and very strong AOE damage. Their fallings are that they're the squishiest class in the game, but that's just a play style preference - doesn't make them suck.

I haven't once said they sucked. I just think particular skills of theirs sucks.

Wizards:
I'm level 21. Are most using Diamond Skin or Frost Nova? I think I like Diamond Skin more, but I constantly forget to use it.
Diamond Skin for me, with Crystal rune. Saved my ass many times.

I finished my normal run with Wizard earlier tonight. Man the second half of Act III and all of Act IV, holy crap so good. Felt so badass towards the end, with DPS over 400 and almost all Rares. Could have had slightly higher DPS but balanced with some defense.

You know that feeling when you're finally outside of act 2? Soooooo good.

I finished Act 2 last night and all I have to say is holy shit, I was not expecting boss mechanics that complicated. Amazing fight, and was definitely a huge surprise.

I'm not saying it was actually all that complicated, just that Diablo 1 and 2 had nothing to compare so I was not expecting something that felt like raid-boss style mechanics.

I can imagine on Nightmare that fight is going to be pretty epic.

Do boss mechanics change on harder difficulty levels, or do they just hit harder / have more HP?

Any Monks have thoughts on builds?

Right now at 30 when I'm solo I am messing around with:

  • Fists of Thunder + Lightning Flash
  • Crippling Wave + Concussion
  • Breath of Heaven + Circle of Life
  • Serenity + Peaceful Response
  • Sweeping Wind + Master of Wind
  • Mantra of Retribution + Retaliation
Passives
  • Resolve
  • Transcendence

The obvious problem is my lack of a spirit dump that isn't defensive, but the Concussion version of Crippling wave seems really good and I feel like the evasion from Lightning Flash will be strong further into the real difficulties.

Could you link your current build?

I love my DH personally, never felt gimped once. I usually play with 3 other people at all times though...

Working on my solo farming barbarian. Up to 45k self buffed HP, doing 1.5k dps. :(

Wasn't talking about you -
All this talk of DH sucking at higher levels in concerning. I love mine at 16 but am now wondering if I should go back to my monk

So DH sucks in the later game? I'm on act 3 normal and double chakram seriously just feels like cheating. It obliterates everything. I think my dps is like 350 or something. I don't know if that is average or what.

I use shadow power + maximum damage rapid fire to life steal tank ranged mobs/weaker hitting mobs/when you have to stand and fight - this way you can build higher dps and still maintain survivability. Ele arrow to clear weaker mobs so your homing missles from rapid fire actually hit the right targets. Devouring arrow is just the highest single target version of hungering arrow - I use this mainly because I hate waiting for bola shot to explode - a good alternative is the stun bola shot. Stun vault + movement speed so you can fly into groups to pick up orbs if needed or to kite groups back over your caltrops trap.
-in a group I'd update caltrops with the crit chance rune, replace ele arrow with double chakrams and shadow power with hatred generating companion.

Can someone help me figure out which of these (if either) to buy for my Wizard?

Legendary Wand (1h) - Blackhand Key
56.7 dps
28-53 damage
1.40 aps
+7-15 Arcane Damage
+53 Dexterity
+58 Vitality
+6 Maximum Arcane Power
-Critical Hits grant 5 Arcane Power
-Increases Magic Missile Damage by 5%
*Empty Slot

Price: 125,000

-----or-----

Legendary Wand (1h) - Starfire
37.8dps
19-35 damage
1.40 aps
+2-5 cold damage
+12% damage
+68 Intelligence
Each hit grants +13 life
Critical Hits grant 4 Arcane Power
*Empty Slot

Price: 80,000

I'm not really sure which is the better upgrade, as all of the calculation that goes into the stats and how the affect damage still confuses me. At first glance, the Starfire appears clearly weaker, but that +68 intelligence seems pretty fucking great and the 12% damage buff really is great. However, I don't really prefer the cold damage buff since I don't use cold magic very often (all Starfires have some sort of cold buff).

As for the Blackhand Key, the +Dexterity seems to be a waste on the Wizard. I also don't use the magic missile, generally preferring the electricity primaries and magic. Still, I'm sure both would be nice to have at some point. Vitality and base damage are excellent for an item without a gem in it yet.

Any advice would be appreciated. For reference sake, my current Wand is as follows:

Rare Wand (1h) - Wizard's Siphon
46.9 dps
25-42 damage
1.40 aps
+4-7 damage
+64 dexterity
+70 vitality
Each hit adds +27 life
+5 maximum Arcane Power
1.90 damage dealt is converted to life
*gem slot

Yes, online is mandatory due to the game structure. Totally worth it, but you might want to wait until after the weekend since they're having some server troubles with the launch.

Thank you, even though I don't do this often I'm really considering getting it at full price (Blizzard games don't come down in price as easily), I have a really crappy internet connection so hopefully that won't be a problem

I'll wait some time to get it though, still have a huge backlog to entertain me at the moment

I guess I'll see you guys online in the near future :)

I use Diamond Skin. I know eventually it'll bite me in the ass, but melee is still so fun right now early on. Diamond Skin, Spectral Blade, Arcane Orb, awesome.

You will use Diamond Skin forever. Shit is fantastic. It's probably the only skill I haven't changed on my Wizard.

I'm using this at 25, it's pretty similar.

I basically use two primaries, fists of thunder with thunderclap for a quick tele into battle (or seven sided strike with tele if i have the spirit) and then i spam way of a hundred fists and plow through mobs until i can use seven sided strike. So far I've been mowing down everything in act II (normal), however I bought some weapons on AH that might be helping me along with that (+80 ish dex)

Just got to Act 4. Nothing truly surprising, but I still got excited. Feeling good about my chances with my 419DPS WD, too. The bosses past Act 2 didn't even get to finish their sentences.

Also: Whoever said that the zombie dogs were useless must have not been blowing them up all the time. I use them like heat seeking missiles. They make short work of elite and champion mobs, love it. Well, they are effective on normal at least. We'll see how they hold up on nightmare.

Finished my first run today. Doing DH at lvl 33 atm. Currently at 594dps,

The game is so good. Plan on starting at a harder difficulty later today/tomorrow.

I'm 1 level higher then you and my DPS is 1097. I'm assuming you actually care about other stats besides DEX? my dex is now at 720 and everything else 150 or below. I really do wanna strike a good balance but every piece of gear I get I look at the DEX and ignore everything else. (except maybe magic find)

I'd dump one of your defensive skills. Serenity or the heal. Since you have transcendence, all your skills will heal you, so replace it with a spammable spirit spender like vulture claw kick, it will heal you and do damage. Spam it when your getting low on health. Leave your defensive skill for dire situations.

How do I get +DMG? Do I craft them with the BS? Or just luck with dropped loot?
How are lvl50-60 barbs playing? 1H? 2H? What's better?
Thanks man

You can usually find jewelry with +dmg on it.. check the vendors and AH. Also rubies add +dmg when inserted into weapons.

I'm playing 1h w/ shield in Hell, played both DW and 2h depending on weapons getting there. Enjoyed DW more since 2h makes you so sluggish, but a better weapon is a better weapon.

To fellow Monks: Which rune do you find most useful with Blinding Flash? I just unlocked Blinding Echo, and while getting a second flash 6 seconds later seems useful, it only lasts for .5 seconds. Looking at simple numbers, Self Reflection increases the default duration from 3 to 4, which is .5 seconds more than when using Blinding Echo. I suppose Echo is more meant for a stun lock type of situation, which do you guys prefer?

Man the matchmaking sucks. It would be nice to be in more 3 or 4 player games instead of just 2 all the time. Most of the time with 2 it hinders my progress because the monsters scale up, and I get some level 47 Barb with half my dps and half the HP I have. So he is useless and now everything is to hard for me to pull the weight. Makes me want to finish the rest of Nightmare solo.

Total Diablo noob here. Only just played through Torchlight, and I'm trying to decide what class to go with.

I'm deciding between Monk and Barbarian. I don't do well with magic-centered classes. Typically I prefer melee classes but I don't wanna be a total tank. I like to have some speed and dexterity (if those things even apply to Diablo). Is Monk to advanced for beginners?

It's probably the simplest class with lots of room for error.

Nope, monk is perfect for beginners. Point-n-slay.

Speed and Dexterity = Monk. Their main damage stat is Dexterity, and their skills often allow for quick strikes or dashes/teleporting/rushing into enemies. They also have some nice defense and regenerative abilities.

No class is too advanced imo.

Both sucks for the price. Keep leveling you will find something better.
You can even buy a rare wand for 10-20k with 60-70 int... that's enough.
When someone see legendary they think they can sell it at insane price but it's not lv60 so...

You save me a ton of money and I didn't even switch my insurance.

Yea, I see lots of wands with high int properties for $10k-$20k. I'll just buy one of those. Cheers.

REVIEW

DIABLO 3 = CRACK COCAINE!

end review....

playing a wizard after taking a break from my monk...... LOVE THIS GAME>!!!!!!!!!

Just cleared the game on Hell. Total time played is on 43 hours now and still no legendary drop,

Time to see what this Inferno is all about!

Its cute they bothered with a story.

Mahgda: You won't stop me. You better get back to Cain's house so you can stop me!

*you teleport back seemingly moments after Mahgda's arrival*

Mahgda: Oh crap, you foiled my plans! How were you able to accomplish this?!

lol

Does thia game has enemies with imunitys? I haven't received a single item with "resist x element"...

I don't think that there are enemies that are completely immune to an element. But there is an affix that makes the pack occasionally put up a shield that blocks all damage and an affix that makes the minions unkillable until the named monster is killed.

Noooo

story spoilers
I hope Leah isn't gone forever, I liked her, she was Deckard's apprentice, carrying on the legacy =(. I hope she comes back in an expansion.

It's probably the simplest class with lots of room for error.
I don't know a lot about Monks, but I feel like the margin for error is pretty high on my Barbarian when I just stand in everything and heal it all back up.

Total Diablo noob here. Someone on the last page mentioned maps being randomly generated. I thought it was just the dungeons. So is this why everything is re-covered with "fog of war" when I go back to a place? Always thought the shitty servers were just losing my progress.

Guess I'm sort of wasting my time in uncovering every square inch of the map before moving forward with quests.

Same. Only thing I've found better than hungering arrow is Evasive fire. The bolas take too long to explode, the snaring shit is just useless. The bombs just feel weird.

I use hungering + bola, and that works quite well. My non-hatred rotation is typically hungering/hunering/bola, then repeat, although that can be changed 1) when I have hatred or 2) when there are enough mobs that I can spam bola on many of them at once.

Monk is the way to go for you I think. Melee focused (dexterity is his primary stat) You can use most melee weapons and armor. He might be trickier to use at first since he has a lot of teleport type skills but the given the skill system, you can pretty easily get away from those if you don't care for them.

Correct, everything outside of "landmark" spots like Tristram is randomly generated.
