I broke the game 100% crit ! :D

If I play Wizard, am I pretty much forced to rely on beam attacks? I played an Alchemist in Torchlight and that's all I ever did, so I don't want to do that again.

I have a noob question. I'm hopping onto this game for the first time, but while I can see friends online, no one can see me. In the bottom right screen I open that up and set myself to available, but it always resets me back to grey where it appears that I'm offline to everyone.

I'm going through the menus and I have no clue if I accidentally set myself to offline. I can't seem to find that setting.

Can anyone help?

700 ping to the US server at the moment for me... reminds me of gaming on my 56k modem.

Blizzard really, really should make an Oceanic\Australian server. I have 400 ping at the best of times, with drops to 800 every so often.

I use chain lightning, arcane orbs, hydra summon, frost nova and blizzard and everything dies very fast... on normal. :P I suppose i might have to change some stuff on nightmare.

I'm sure the first world clear in inferno will be in solo it's a lot more easier.
It's even more easy with DH you can kill the boss offscreen anyway... hungering arrow ftw. ;P

If only they'd stay off screen. I'm quickly learning that managing discipline and keeping smoke up is essential to staying alive as a DH solo in hell.

Oh and multiple people cleared Inferno already. One of them solo I think.

I love clearing out the entire map, finding a bunch of shit to throw up on the AH, doing that, coming back to where you should've left off, and realizing you did not hit a check point before logging. SMH.

Equipment question. I want to know which is best... but more importantly, WHY it is.

It's for my level 13 barb.

Weapon 1:

Rare might weapon - The Harvest
7-13 dmg
1.36 attacks per second
+1-2 fire dmg
Increases attack speed by 5%
+4 life after each kill
+2 maximum fury

Weapon 2:

Magic Axe - Adventuring Double Axe of the Lion
8-14 dmg
1.30 attacks per second
+14 strength
monster kills grant +2 exp

So, the rare offers a lot more incentives... but the magic axe gives me a (I think?) BIG boost in strength.

Man. Now that I'm finally playing this on a good computer... this game puts Starcraft 2 to shame graphically, by far. Of course I haven't played SC2 on ultra either, but this is a really good looking game. Character models aside.

Just beat Act 3 Hell. Easier than Act 2, and the final boss was /much/ easier than Act 2's. I'm not looking forward to the last part of Act 4, though; that was hard enough on Nightmare. I've been going solo up til now but maybe I should party up for this.

Also, I like my wizard, but she looks ridiculous with that skull hat and armor that doesn't cover all of her skin. I'm in late Hell - when am I going to get a reasonable shirt?

Played a couple public games earlier

Boy people sure don't like talking. I'm like throwing out jokes left and right and shit and nobody's saying nothing.

When MC Hammer's Legendary Parachute Pants dropped for me, I went "Woot, Legendary Hammer Pants"

...No reply...

=/

I feel like I'm going crazy... I am not changing items often but I swear my Magic Find % is going down as I progress. It was 70% yesterday, but 55% a few hours ago... now I check, it's 52%. I know I lost 1% from ONE item change, but still... Is there a base Magic Find?- maybe I don't understand how it works.

9k health D=

Is that Nightmare or Hell?

Hell. Had one guy I think that had 15k at least, but the two others were rocking 10k or 9k HP in freaking Hell. Im serious btw, look at this:

Very first elite pack chased us all the way back to town because they kept dying due to low HP/defense. I cannot advance thusfar because I join a public game and see folks cheering about their 8k dps, but they have nothing for survivability.

I explained it above :p

If you're going to pick up blues (and low-level rares) the best thing to do by far is to simply vendor them, outside of equipping a companion or perhaps saving them for another char if they're decent rares. Salvaging right now is pointless in Normal & Nightmare because you can buy those mats for very cheap off the Auction House.

Yeah, I caught on to this extremely fast. I vendor blues, I still DE the yellows that are worthless, but I vendor everything else.

So why do people hate the spell blizzard? I greatly prefer it to anything else in the force tree.

I avoid that tree like the plague, honestly. Hydra is fantastic for hard boss fights where you have to spend all of your time evading, but I can't stand anything else there. I take Magic Weapon and an armor spell from Conjuration instead.

I haven't played with Blizzard much. I could see it being decent, but if I want damage while I'm kiting I'm just going to use Electrocute or Orb, and if I want to lay waste to an army I'm going to hit Archon.

There's a dye that makes things revert to default. Get one of those.
Hell. Had one guy I think that had 15k at least, but the two others were rocking 10k or 9k HP in freaking Hell. Im serious btw, look at this:
I had 16k HP starting Hell, you need it to tank a hit.

Inferno mobs just kill you on sight, they don't bother chasing :p

pretty fucking frustrating to have lag in my single player game.

i'm in australia, the minimum ping I can get to the server is 200ms. it sits around 400 during the day due to things out of my control.

ps, use the auction house. search for stuff between 2 levels below and your current level, rarity set to yellow and your primary stat set to minimum 20 or whatever. you can get your character a few hundred DPS for about 20k gold.

Still trying to finish normal solo with my wizard. The act 4 bosses are whipping my ass. They can all one shot me. Maybe I need to retool my glass canon build...

Me mentioning taking an armor spell reminds me - how is Energy Armor not hugely better than any of the others with the level 60 rune that makes it add 40% to your resists in addition to the usual 65% to armor?

For a while in Normal and NM Act 2 I was happy with Ice Armor, but later on you just need to be able to tank, and you need to be able to tank ranged as well as melee. Storm Armor seems awful for everybody except maybe with the move speed rune.

If Energy Armor without a rune is competitive because of the (really quite large) survivability bonus, Energy Armor with that rune blows the others away. If I have 2100 armor and 160 resist (some of my actual numbers), I'm taking only 38% of normal damage. With Energy Armor and no rune, I take only 30.3% of normal damage - that's almost 25% reduction on top of what I already had. With the 40% resist rune, I'm only taking 26.57% of normal damage. Energy Armor with the rune is like having an additional source of 40% damage reduction in addition to what I'm already getting from armor, resists, and dodge.

Edit: I should note that I didn't have the rune in Hell Act 2, and there Ice Armor was competitive with Energy Armor. It's those damned snake thingies that just appear next to you and start attacking.

Equip weapon one, mouse over weapon 2 and check how much DPS varies on the tooltip box. Equip accordingly.

What do you guys think for Demon Hunter devices slot:
Spike Trap or Sentry?

Spike Trap does a shitton of damage it seems like, and I just recently got Sentry, and it is kind of hard to gauge if it is doing any worthwhile damage.

Also I know I can get both with elective or whatever, but I actually prefer having one skill from each section as a DH.

My current level 40 Wiz.

with the Magic Weapon engaged, the dps if over 1200. I swapped out a ring that dropped my DPS by about 100 in exchange for a 1000 vitality boost. Been neglecting my passive selection, so I may amend that. I've also never really used the shield options. I'll have to give those a try. I think the fact that I wouldn't be able to use the diamond skin for an extended period of time discouraged me.

Pretty happy with the build as-is. More or less. I find myself going back and forth between lightning and the arcane primary (the one with the bolts that move in a sine wave). The lag makes me shy away from the magic missiles. idk.

In act 2 of Nightmare. No legendary items found, and it's not for a lack of searching.

Random thoughts: a little more character customization would have been nice. I would have liked to paint my Wizard's skin a nice shade of brown. Outfit is badass with the invisible hat. He has that "I give no fucks" swag.

Also, I've been "maining" the Witch Doctor and (at level 20) the Zombie Dog skills are sorta disappointing, to be honest. I incorrectly assumed that if I took Summon Zombie Dogs active AND the Circle of Life (5% chance of nearby kills create Zombie Dogs) passive, I could get a little Zombie Dog army.

Not the case.

The descriptive text should really tell you how it works. Obviously it's not THAT egregious because it's infinite respec, but still. They should stack to a max, imo :)

Monk is really, really easy to play (on normal at least)

I can throw myself alone into an enemy group/champions/heroes/whatever in a game with a full party and not worry about the outcome.

My solo normal run as a wizard was way more difficult than that.

Oh, that would make the skull invisible? I kept reading you as saying that it would make the armor look reasonable and was getting confused until the poster just above pointed out his "invisible hat". I need to find some of that.
