Owh I understand, but it's retarded when you look at it from afar. To the common man, Spider-Man is Marvel, Iron Man is Marvel, Thor is Marvel, Hulk is Marvel....
To the common man, not having Spider-Man in a Marvel-comics-movie in NYC is like having a Starsky & Hutch without Huggy Bear; it just feels wrong.

The common man also seems to want Batman in the Avengers. I don't think they really thought about it that deeply.

I doubt the "Common man" cares at all.

Nonsense, I've heard plenty of regular people mention it sucks Spidey wasn't in 'Avengers' or that they want him in a sequel.

And I havnt heard anyone say anything, so anecdotal evidence doesnt matter much. Also, just because people want Spidey in the movie, doesnt mean they dont understand why he isnt.

Look at all the memes being tossed around about Spidey getting left out of Avengers and whatnot; their aren't any memes of fucking Batman/Supes or even other popular Marvel heroes such as Wolverine being left out.

Fact is people want Spidey in Avengers.

Jesus christ what are you even arguing about now? You have now made up an argument. I never said people did not want Spidey. I said people dont give a fuck about "Where is Spiderman, he lives in new york, where is he?". Normal people dont think like that.

Are you implying I'm not normal?

j/k

End of the line; Spider-Man + Fantastic Four (done right this time) + Avengers = "TAKE ALL MY MONEY" by just about everyone on the goddamn planet.

Did you do a survey or something? Because I think you'd be quite surprised..

I'm gonna be honest and say that entire time at the scene in NY I was hoping for a cameo from Spidey to tie into the new movie because it was in NY.

So I guess I'm not normal. Huh.

I did a survey of functioning, non mentally retarded males/females 18+ on Gaf. There is a reason you werent surveyed.

You may be normal, but just really damn stupid. I wont make a judgement though.

Where did I say I believed that? smh, my point is the laymen public do ask these sort of questions because all they see is "MARVEL" at the start of a movie and kind of assume as much.

They can't tell from watching Thor, Iron Man and Ghost Rider which is connected to the other or not. That's how most people think, so they ask 'where's spidey' thinking he's part of the same universe.

You should try getting off your horse some time.

Thats exactly what people think like. Why not? They're all superheros to mainstream moviegoers now, and different heroes can now join up and kick ass.

I'm going to look like the weird one bringing up Sony licensing.

If Spider-Man's movie rights ever went back to Marvel, do you guys think they'd do their own origin story? I know it's been done twice now, but seeing as he technically does not yet exist in the MCU, would they just drop him in there without a real origin movie ala The Incredible Hulk, or would they start from scratch and do it THEIR way?

Spider-Man's origins are the most well-known of any comic book character (I'm ignoring Batman because the specifics of his origin aren't entirely solid). Marvel are smarter than thinking they need to start from scratch.

hawkeye is fabulous guys

Captain America is totally hoverhanding Tony Stark.

Or he just can`t touch this.

Incredible Hulk way. Spidey has lots of stories to tell, and his origin story is the most famous. In Spectacular Spider-Man he had already been a hero for a while before Vulture first shows up, starts when he gets the job. His origin is told much later.

Also, I've been asked a lot if Amazing Spider-Man was the movie they'd introduce the Spidey who would appear in Avengers. It's impossible but everyone wants it to happen.

So let's say the Marvel Cinematic Universe is successful for a long period of time.

2030. Do we follow the real world timeline and Tony Stark is old now? Maybe RDJ pops up for cameos or something, but he's not flying around as Iron Man anymore.

Or do we adopt a sliding timeline like the comics and recast Tony Stark so he's eternally young? Because that would be weird too. I mean it's already weird for comics (come on, it's already stretching a bit to buy that Magneto was alive during World War 2, at some point that shit's just not gonna fly anymore), but it would be especially weird for movies.

So either we wind up with a cast of D-listers in Avengers 6, we screw up the timeline and continuity for the sake of keeping the popular heroes around, or we reboot. But then, a reboot presents its own set of problems. With one hero like Batman, it's easy, you just show the origin story again. But with a whole multi-franchise movie universe, how do you explain to the average audience that it's a reboot?

Basically what I'm getting at is this whole thing has to fall apart at some point, and that kinda sucks. It probably won't get a big grand finale, but it'll sputter and die out slowly. And we'll look back at the post-credits stinger to Avengers 3 and think, "Man, Avengers 4 could've been so cool, it's a shame the whole thing became such a mess."

It's going to be interesting to see how all this plays out, but Kevin Feige is clearly a mastermind so I trust him to orchestrate it nicely.

I don't think it'll putter out and die slowly, I think we'll get that grand "finale" in Avengers 3 with Thanos.

Feige is already on record. No reboots, just recasting. He compared Iron Man to James Bond.

I'm okay with this. Obviously it's a problem when they do it for every movie, but after getting enough with one actor a good recasting can help a lot. We're already used to switching up artists and writers constantly in comics. I know everyone says RDJ is the perfect Tony Stark casting but he really can't do it forever and a new actor could bring a lot to the table - it gives them a chance to avoid getting stale with the way he's written. I

love pretty much all the casting in these movies and will be sad when each actor gets replaced, but I'd also really love to see this thing going on for a long time. As long as they're structured about it (maybe do a complete recast every 3 Avengers films) then it could definitely work without being obtrusive.

But like KevinCow said, it'd be weird having it go on for so long with everyone staying young.

Can someone tell me how did Thor returned back to Earth.

It was explained already but when I saw the trailers and commercials and etc I wondered that myself.
I wish it was shown during the movie, just seeing Thor pop up out of no where was random.

Also did Portman want bigger money or didn't want to be in the movie? Thor needs to go see her :P

Spiderman :( it'd be amazing but he's weak though, web ain't gonna hurt thanos

Couldnt they just make the timeline between movies to move slowly? Like what year avenger movie is aet up? Im guessing a littke bit into the future, now lets say the next avenger movie premiered in 2015, they can make the movie time line just 1 year after avengers1 movie.

Never heard of Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Thor (comic version) before going to the movie.

But I liked it a lot.

I was not at all joking about the fact that I'd pay literally double the (already ridiculous) first-run ticket prices to see an Avengers film where the dueling studios allowed the properties to work together. I'd be so much more willing to vote with my wallet on shit like that than ostensibly supporting 3D and overpriced midnight showings. The problem (well, one of many) is of course that the general public would have no clue about the behind-the-scenes IP struggles and reject the price increase outright.

It's a shame because I have had no fewer than 3 people who are not comics fans per se but know the difference between DC and Marvel ask me quite simply why Spider-Man was not around his native NYC during a massive invasion. The real answer to this question is totally inadequate and the actor playing the characer in a brand-new reboot agrees. But despite the just gluttonous, absurd amounts of money to be made, this kind of shared universe is unlikely or impossible for at least a decade because of how the money would be divided.

I'd proffer that a massive threat that required the Avengers and X-Men to team up (yes, I know this is ironic considering what is currently occurring) would also cause massive quantities of money to rain from the sky especially after how well-received First Class was.

Sigh. Maybe Daredevil has a better shot.

edit: On the characters aging...

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I'd prefer the Batman Beyond treatment to anything else. The elder Tony Stark still appearing in-cinema as a genius mastermind who stays out of the direct action, grooming a headstrong young upstart to wear the armor.

Maybe we'll end up with a set of VS-movie, like Street Fighter and Tekken... one done by Disney, the other done by Fox.

although the chances of THAT actually happening are slimmer than a studio team-up

I'm going to preorder the Hulk one....whenever it gets announced. I did buy the Marvel Select Avengers Hulk, at 1/10th the cost. I'll post some pics soon.

That hurts. He should want his Spidey in the Avengers. The group I went to watch Avengers with (for my second viewing) pretty much all asked why SM wasn't in the movie.

I don't want to see a studio crossover. Let the rights come home and Spidey recast by Feige and his people and I'm all for it.

If they get his rights any time in the near future they'll probably keep Garfield, because he's a great actor and he's already down for it.

You'd love him if Marvel Studios picked him.

That's just... so you would be fine with a third reboot/recast? Ughh, Garfield is great as-is, no point in that. Unless you're just a hater.

Too much hypothetical talk in here, lol.
