Isn't Sony almost bankrupt not doing so well? Maybe Disney/Marvel could buy the rights back.

Sony isn't doing well. Spidey is one of their few surefire profitable franchises. No way in hell will they ever sell it unless they withdraw from the movie business completely.

Let it go, people.

Might as well put Whedon to good use.

Spider-Man and Iron Man are very different. But didn't we agree to stop talking about this? It's not happening unless Sony and Disney make some sort of deal or Sony goes completely bankrupt, both of which are unlikely. All talk about Spider-Man in the Avengers will just make this harder to accept.

We're going to "will" this marriage into existence.

That's the only thing that bothered me about movie Ironman. I'm not sure if he was like this in the comics and I didn't imagine his character to be, but dude does an even more wisecracking and wittier Spiderman than Spiderman himself.

You know this is probably better suited for the MCU thread, but since it's been brought up above...

I've been thinking, if Fox owns both X-Men and F4, what are the chances they'd do their own crossover between the two? Maybe try and adapt Fantastic Four vs X-Men.
I would watch this.

Garfield's Spider-Man doesn't seem to be wisecracky enough either, although already much better than Toby's. If he ever goes to the Whedonverse, he'd have to be completely remade. Also, they'd have to find an actor that's brave enough to be with his mask on ALL THE TIME, because I will not stand for this constantly taking his mask off bullshit in front of The Avengers.

Garfield crackin' wise

I can only imagine this is a taste of what is to come.

Not even close to comics, in comics Spiderman is the king of wisecracks. Everybody plays straightman to him, even Deadpool.

I was sure that Deadpool was the only person who wisecracked more than Spider-Man, to the point where he annoyed Spidey.

But good God, I wish someone would actually capture Spidey's humor. He just doesn't shut up.

No one seems to want to deadpan with a mask on. Even that clip above is mostly physical comedy... and not funny.

I guess it might be hard to translate from still images and written word, although the 90s cartoon did it well (albeit with poor animation).

A problem with Spidey is that he makes three wisecracks while dodging a punch. It's not possible to talk that much on the big screen, and Spidey doesn't quip nearly as much when he's not fighting. Of course, that's the big difference between Iron Man and Spidey, Iron Man is suave and awesome outside the battle (mostly).

Spider-Man is more about taunting the enemies, while Iron Man is more about saying how cool he is. It'd work well on a movie.

And yeah, Spidey actors need to keep their mask on more. Nobody is going to forget them. Just make the Peter Parker parts more interesting, and let the Spider-Man ones be all about Spider-Man. We'll see how Garfield does it.

And come on Sony and Disney, work something out

Spectacular did it better. Like pretty much everything else.

Nah, Spiderman usually annoyed because Deadpool is risking lives and he has to beat the shit out of Deadpool.

1) What we've already seen shows he already takes his mask off too much.
2) Seconded

Ah, I see.

Can Hulk's toenails and fingernails be trimmed? Or are they also indestructible?

How about his hair?

I guess theoretically Hulk's hair would change depending on what Bruce Banner's is like, but since Thunderbolt Ross's mustache disappears when he becomes Red Hulk, there's clearly no logic behind any of that.

Don't think too hard about Hulks, or it all falls apart.

That is because the universe could not handle a gamme powered Ross mustache. It would unmake all life.

Word on the e-street is that IM3 was budgeted for $140 million in production costs pre-Avengers. Then The Avengers did gangbusters and rather than count their crossover movies as separate, Marvel has decided The Avengers raised the bar for ALL Marvel movies. Namely, Shane Black and the IM3 crew aren’t being asked to deliver a better Iron Man movie but THE BEST Marvel movie hands down.

How could Disney and Marvel make this new doctrine more possible? I hear they’ve upped the budget from $140 to $200 million. And extra sixty million dollars can go a long way (remember how the last stuff done on Green Lantern was the best stuff done on Green Lantern?).
Not sure if I buy this. Iron Man 2 also had a budget of $200M, I can't imagine they were planning to make 3 for $60M less. Before The Avengers went into production, there were reports that Marvel was budgeting it under $150M. I think this is just Marvel trying to be cheap, and then getting more realistic when they get close to filming.

I don't know, I could believe it.. they really want to keep the ball rolling. All the stand-alone MCU movies should do a LOT better then their respective predecessors due to how successful Avengers has been.

What he's saying is that he doesn't buy that they budgeted it at the low price seriously, and then actually upped it only because Avengers is doing so well. I agree, the low balling of budgets is a known Marvel Studios thing. They always end up paying what they need to by the time they go into full production.

It's sort of weird to think that, failing the Apocalypse, America being lain to rest, or a massive devaluation of the dollar, one day a movie will have a billion dollar budget.

edit: Just realized I'm ready to see this a fourth time. Inception was the last movie I had this desire with, before that 'twas The Matrix. No others on that list.

Hmmmm to go back to the theater or not..

Hiring Black and a bunch of new actors, and not having to bring back Favreau, Gregg, and Scarlett probably saved them money.

Pffftt, cousin wants to see it again this weekend and is bringing me along. Fifth time's the charm for me :P especially since the fourth time was a free ticket on Regal's dime and this time it's her dime. :)

As for multiple viewings, HP: PoA I saw seven times in the theater and Inception was three times.

Some of that money is going to be paid by the Chinese. Whatever the final budget is you have to subtract that amount to guess what Marvel/ Disney are paying.
