Also, Gladiator sure as hell had memorable scenes, even if movie wasn't some kind of perfection as a whole.
Indeed, given that the original comment was "not one memorable scene in three decades."
The Avengers is good popcorn fun...jeeez. Like I said, on GAF Gladiator is severely underrated, probably because it won Best Picture. KoH:DC is awesome too, but it's a little less memorable and doesn't have quite as good acting (except Edward Norton).
The acting in Kingdom of Heaven is excellent.

They're both good popcorn fun.

It's not because it won Best Picture, it's just not the be all and end all of film. It's a well made and acted entertaining action film. It's what I'm expecting Prometheus to be, in fact.

The Departed makes Alien look like Alien vs Predator.

I don't think anyone said it was. There is no be all, end all of film. It doesn't exist. "it's great but not the BEST thing ever" is a silly quote that no one should ever use.

Well, except for Die Hard, which actually IS the best thing ever. I think it's been scientifically proven, in fact.

I would just take a little bit of umbrage at calling Gladiator fun popcorn film and being told that Avenger is instead... they're similar films in my opinion.

I am nervous about Olly Moss' impressions.. but I'm still insanely excited. He linked to the Empire review which must have echoed some of his sentiments but I didn't read it.. I completely avoid all reviews for a film I'm interested in.

I love Olly's design work... but why are you so concerned about a graphic designer's opinion on things? (This is coming from a guy who know Moss from an online forum before he blew up and got big- He's a fine guy, but he's just a guy)

Metacritic actually read the reviews and they give a note. Rotten only says if a review is positive or negative. There's a big difference between Alien and a competently made movie that's going to garner "positive" reviews.

Avengers is definitely a 69. God that movie was overblown.

And yeah, Gladiator is fucking shit.

Errrr, so what do you like?

But most of the people in this thread don't need to see it anyway since they were so sure "the second trailer spoiled the whole fucking plot and every single scene in the movie OMFG SPOILERS".

So that and the fact that some french critics didn't think it was the best movie ever made, crisis/blame Lindelof mode.

Usually, though, on RT movies start out high and then go down considerably. You can't really tell until opening day what the percentage is going to be (unless it starts low).

Just saw it a few hours ago. God, how I missed good, mature sci-fi. 3D was non-intrusive and just right, plot is no fantastic just good and score is fantastic.

Yeah. If I don't like Gladiator or Avengers, I definitely don't like any movie, right?

You are aware that those movies aren't generally considered masterpieces? By anyone who actually has watched movies that were made before 1985, I mean?

Let me show you the way to approximately 60 000 hours of movies that are probably better than Gladiator and Avengers.

I don't want to sound elitist, but that's my reply to "So what do you like?". Well, I like good movies.

And I love Alien.

you need to expand your horizons. follow that link to find at least 60,000 hours worth of film that is "probably" better than Gladiator.

Of all the movies I've seen on this list, none are worst than Gladiator was. Obviously I haven't watched all of them, so that's why I said probably. But yeah, chances are pretty good, considering Gladiator is not exactly a masterpiece.

Just saw it... It's so good.. so good..

It even played yesterday in Belgium.

I will not say anything yet, I know people who even reads spoiler tags :D
(i am one of them.)

I'm hoping for Prometheus to be good, guys. Reviews from respectable sources so far say that the dialogue is dumb, and that the story's not as smart as it should be.

I'm still gonna see it with a bucket of popcorn, but I'm just not expecting a masterpiece. Just a good ol' summer popcorn flick. And I sure hope it's more focused and less fan-service than Avengers was.

If it's as good as Aliens in my opinion I'll be ecstatic. I rate it a solid 3 out of 4, great fun. I'm not expecting perfection so I feel serene. Tomorrow at noon. I'm out until then in lieu of all the midnight impressions.

Peace PrometheusGAF

I think Starship Troopers is the best movie ever made.
