PROMETHEUS UNMARKED SPOILER THREAD!

Yeah last shot should have been an aerial shot of the Engineer and then it popping out towards the chest in gimmick 3D fashion

I at least wish the final thing to emerge was an egg and not a Xeno plus egg attached via umbilical. That seemed weird, but I'm open to somebody enlightening me.

It didn't look as close to an alien egg that we could be 100% sure. It could've just been just a placenta I guess.

It's the Queen.

No it's just a normal xeno in my opinion. Just like the one in the mural. People WANT it to be the queen, but there's no evidence pointing towards it at all.

Imo it is a queen with double mouths and all, which normal Xenos dont have.

Looks like the normal additional mouth all the xenos had in the other movies. People are seeing things they want to see. There is no clear visual evidence of royalty in that xeno. The face looks like a dolphin to me which is not surprising seeing the "baby" looked a like a seacreature also :b

I'm also of the view that it's a primitive xeno, not a queen.

People keep saying "queen" but was that an alien queen? I just assumed it was merely a more primitive version of the xenomorph we know and love - like apes are to us.

Unfortunately, I also thought this:

the alien birthing tease at the very end - these actually reminded me a bit of the original AVP.

And apparently I'm not the only one:

Ending on the Xeno emerging was some AvP shit.

Still wish they used a mix of CG and prac effects for it.

No shit. Seeing how almost everything else was a combination of those, I reckon they ran out of time with that scene. Still it's not a bad looking creature at all. Doesn't just compare to the cockworms and the megahugger. And of course the magnificent execution of the engineers, goddamn they nailed them so well which is close to a miracle when we are talking about humanoid creatures. They never work on film.

Don't make me do it. You know I'll do it.

Navi were so close to humans it's hard to think of them as anything else.

;)

Both look great. But I think Na'vi still got the edge.

Hard to tell with the engineers since they're supposed to look somewhat unsettling, rather than drawing the same facial expressions we might. They're supposed to be like gods.

Really didn't feel like Theron's character deserved to die to be honest

Like I know she was a cold character but like everything she did right up until the end was try to protect the ship, I mean an argument could be made for doing it to protect herself, but no way she would have stood in front of a man infected with god knows what if all she cared about was herself and not the safety of the ship/crew

Yeah it was almost like the ship was the finger of god saying "nope" to her will to surive.

That was the way she was
programmed
to be.

Whether or not it was a(n egg laying) queen at the end is irrelevant. LV233 isn't LV426 so whatever spawns from that creature isn't in Alien.

I think the xenomorphs we all love are just the purest form av mutation from where engineers are involved and since the DNA matches with human they'll look the same or at least very similar from us. Otherwise, why should there be murals with them inside the pyramids?

Though, Shaw's 'baby' is more squid like than what facehuggers are depicted in the other movies so maybe the Alien xenomorph has some other DNA in it as well. Even the worms had a more facehugger like texture. But, the giant 'facehugger' in Prometheus wanted to lay an egg through the engineer's mouth so somehow that seems programmed, contrary to being added with the mixed DNA, into anything that mutates from the goo.

Watched the movie last night and while it was enjoyable, boy was it full of plot holes, stuff that didn't make sense or was stupid.

James Cameron would have made a better Alien prequel

You know it. Because Cameron writes his own films and can write films better than Lindelof.

I did think it was fascinating that there was another way to get facehuggers other than wait for a Queen to lay an egg

Also I suppose the xenomorph may have looked so silly is because of how the species steals some of the look of the host species

So it was tall and gangly because the Engineer was tall and well not gangly but tall anyway

So Alien 3 alien looks and moves like a dog cause it was gestated inside a dog etc

It looked like shit because it was CG that didn't mesh as well as Scott and Cameron's iconic KY jelly-covered puppet work which look 100x more believable. It looked like a shitty VFX shot and was the final shot of the film and gave me some bad AvP dudebro fan-service vibes.

Ok calm down

I am going to go with the engineers wanting to end humanity because we advanced past a level of evolution they were prepared for (ie space travel) and indeed became threats to their civilization.

Man why was the script so shitty. With a great script this would have been the best scifi movie in years for me.
The effects were great and believable. The sets and tech looked great and real. The best in years imo.
It looked like Avatar should have looked. Everything human looked like it was actually built and working and not just a concept.
This movie had soooo much potential. Imo it would have been better if they kept the story simpler and more focussed. More focus on the characters would have been great too. And more hinting at or explaining things more visually instead of spoonfeeding it.

It started of great but it started to feel all over the place when it moved more towards the end and missed the tension alien had. It missed a clear enemy by having all those different creatures. It feels like they were trying explain too much in too little of time or they focussed on the wrong priorities.

im not sure if i like the whole engineer thing and how aliens were created. i dunno, i think i just prefer the starting point of everything being alien.

(yes yes promethus is not alien etc and should be considered seperate).

I think that flaws aside, the biggest flaw was going back to explain what that other weird alien sitting on his ship in Alien actually was

The mythology aspects give some theories as well:

Prometheus was a renegade titan/god who gave humanity fire. In the movie he could be seen either as making humanity or making humanity sentient eventually. That would piss off the other gods like in the myths.

Why the survivor got mad:

He could see humanity as failed experiments or mockery of the 'true aryan space nazi race'. Also he went crazy first on David. Maybe he got pissed because creations made their own creation.

I don't really know, but thinking about this is fun. The mysteries were not a problem I had with the film, the problem were other script-related issues.

You guys are all wrong. David just fucked up the translation. The Engineer ripping his head off was how he went about replying back 'MY MOTHER WAS A SAIIIIINT!'

The CGI here is anything but silly dawg.

Doesn't work, they were planning on killing us off 2000 years ago.

There was great CGI in the film, I'm just saying that it made the Xenomorph at the end look cheap because of how much more realistically he's been depicted by Scott and Cameron in the past. It looked bad in comparison.

He should just do another original sci-fi goddammit. I will never see an engineer in that space jockey chair when I watch Alien.

Oh fuck, now I know I'll think about it every time. Damn you, Ridley. :(

i think an original sci-fi would be better for anyone. when you make a sequel/prequel to these huge movie franchises from 30 years ago there will always be some kind of expectation and limitations to what you can do.

also, get better writers.

Running from the the ship was really bad. Oh no Dr.Shaw is on the ground! Oh wait she just rolled out of the way. Too bad Charlize Theron cannot think of making few steps left or right

I didn't like how David automatically seemed to know what he was doing in the catacombs, despite having Tom Hardy Jnr's research paper and being familiar with other ancient patterns of language.

There was hardly any trial and error when it came to him opening new doors or triggering things. It felt very unnatural (lol he's an android hur hur) compared to Ash and crew's very methodical study upon encountering something new.

Well it just confirmed that the research and language assumptions were completely correct.

One thing that's been bothering me: why the hell would you hire Guy Pearce for the Weyland part when he's gonna spend the whole movie covered in crappy old man makeup? Why not just pick a cool older actor? Just for the TED Talk stunt?

Because he's cheaper than Max Von Sydow.

Maybe they want to have the option of scenes including a clone/android/younger Weyland if they make more movies in this universe?

Tense movie...but really full of plotholes. Seemed like a lot was just thrown together because it was cool, without keeping in mind there would be thousands of people trying to connect everything.

Like Shaw in the Med Pod. Really awesome c-section scene. Added tension that it doesn't know c-sections, and she has to go for an alien object in abdomen, because the Med Pod is only familiar with male anatomy. But why would Vickers, definitely female, have a Med Pod that doesn't know how her body works?

Such a shame. If the writers would have thought things over a bit more it would have been so much better.
