[MS-Conf] Forza Horizon - E3 2012 trailer

What joke?

PC version has sim-style handling, cars from Forza Motorsport 3 & 4 and over 100km of road. Cobra is a decent game if you want to cruise/race/muck around in a large environment.

It's a B game, based on a german TV-show, and it doesn't even have licensed cars. It's got a laughable story if it's anything like the previous games in the series.. At least for people who don't enjoy the TV show, but since you claim it has sim handeling, I'll give it a go when I get home from work today.

edit: None of the other games have been impressive handling or graphics wise, so I don't know why this should be anything different. It's got abysmal reviews, so I'm not getting my hopes up

That was a fantastic presentation. Ralph's passion for the game really shone through.
Feeling an awful lot better about FH now. My concerns about it diluting the Forza brand might have been a little premature. Hype levels increasing!

I can't watch it right now. Does it show cockpit view?

For a split second, yes it does 8)

Cockpit !
those car models are straight off FM4.
Surprised you can see the interiors in third person cam, does this mean the game is using FM4 lod0 models ?

Fuck, I really need to work on appreciating this game for what it is, and get beyond my indignation and disgust about an arcadey dubstep dudebro cash-in shitting all over the Forza name.

It's gonna be tough, though.

That's the thing. If we judge a game on what we want it to be, we will miss out imo. We should take it for what it is, dub step and all and go with it...

Forza already felt a little cramped when driving in cockpit view, with so much stuff going on I'm wondering if this sort of game would be best played in chase cam...on a controller.

I know mate - see my post-Inside Sim video comments above..!
Hope/hype increasing.
It's a minor detail, but I love the hand-held camera pans around the cars in the attract/car select mode, complete with zooms and refocusing. It's been done before, but rarely so convincingly. Little things like this (if carried over) might help FM5 feel a bit less sterile.

It's a meh from me, turn 10 not the dev (im sure they are busy working on Forza 5 for NextBox)

It's only called Forza for brand recognition otherwise it might as well be NFS or TDU. Not interested.

They got former Bizarre and Codemasters people working on it, that's good enough for me.

Sure, they slap the Forza name on a bad game just because of brand recognition. Those are folks that know how to make racing games, and they work with T10.

So I guess its safe to say that the player-controlled car retain the same fidelity as Forza4...cockpit and all? Any word about customizing your driver? :D

Dat bumper cam!

Also loved the sound of the gravel in the trailer, hope its represenitive of the in game sound.

I'm hoping for some amazing sounds from Horizon. I wonder if PG have their own audio guy or are they using Nick Wiswell..?

People going on about how it's not being made by Turn 10 therefore it's shit really need to do their homework before writing down their thoughts.
As has been said, Playground Games is made up of ex Codemasters,Bizarre Creations,Slightly Mad Studios, Black Rock, Ubisoft Reflections, Rockstar...etc..etc employees. People who know a thing or two about making games let alone a racing game. It's basically a supergroup of industry veterans who have given us games like PGR, TOCA, Dirt,SHIFT,Split Second,Driver..etc.
Add in Turn 10 and you have a potential massive hit on your hands..

I don't think Nick has anything to do with Forza Horizon. It looks like the lead audio guy at Plaground is Dave Shillito from Codemasters.

I agree that Playground Games is akin to a UK racing game 'supergroup' - there is a lot of talent making Forza Horizon and the game should be superb.

Great video indeed. Hype rising ! :o
We got to see a small glimpse of the manufacturers list : Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Audi, Bugatti and BMW.
I like how he explained the way they choose cars, I fully expect stuff like the Fisker Karma to be in this game. I hope they can fix the open wheel issue of the Forza engine to get some Catheram in there. It would be a blast to go fast in a car like that on the roads of Colorado.
It should be noted that all assists were turned on during the video, for those that thought that it looked too arcade. I'm really curious to see how the Viper will react on dirt, with all the assists off.

BTW, is it wrong that I'm way more excited about what all the technology shown could potentially mean for FM5 ? I mean, real backdrops of up to 20 miles instead of shitty (when zoomed in) 2D textures, full dynamic time of day, off-road simulation physics, yes please !

Really hoping they have not got rid of replays.... That will save it for me. Forza 4 replays are great to watch when maintaining a nice clean fast run.

And the problem with that is?

I will never understand the weight people will place on a name. So what if it's prefixed as Forza, that shouldn't write off a game even if it looks great. Seems like such an illogical reason to dislike something.

Hmmm, I was about to say great, Dirt 3 had amazing sound but noticed that Dave Shillito wasn't the audio lead for the game, Mark Knight was...

edit

Ideas above my station, but this would have been ideal as 'real' DLC.
I said wow

As a DLC ? Are you serious ?
The amount of stuff added, the open world aspect and finally the fact that it runs at 30 fps mean that it would have been absolutely impossible to make it as a FM4 DLC...

At first blush, Horizon fares decently in comparisons with other open-world racers like Burnout Paradise and Test Drive Unlimited 2. Though it doesn't have the massively multiplayer functionality of the latter, all events can be played competitively online, and you can likewise hook up with friends to tool around Colorado in a spot of free-roaming action.
So you can only free-roam with friends or through lobbies, presumably?

Also didn't Burnout Paradise have free-roam? So why make the distinction between the two (not like TDU)?

Based on what I saw at the MS Conference all it looked like was straight tracks start to finish. That with my ignorance towards the game made me think 'should be DLC'. I think I've rattled a hornet's nest thinking this.

Granted we saw not much of it, but saying an open road mode with a complete new environment, day-night cycle, new road surfaces, and so on and forth... you are insane.

Read my post again, please.

I said I had no idea what game it was and from what I saw I assumed it was a straight track dodging other cars (similar to a game mode already in Forza).

please no! *tdu trauma*

Great video, but looks like they are not going to show the events races on E3.

did I see a bus?

Yep, knowing Turn 10 though, we wont see anything substantial for a while.
Hopefully i'm wrong.

Oh shit, I just had flashbacks about FM4's pre-release marketing !
Get your Twitter and Facebook accounts ready to like the game's page and car list reveals, guys ! :D

Will buy just for photo mode, can't believe Dan is still going on about "Turning car lovers into gamers, and gamers into car lovers" though...wtf man.

Can't wait to crop that disgusting logo out of every photo.

This looks like a lot of fun. I'm kind of tired of the same tracks in F4 at this point and I doubt there will be any additions anytime soon.

It wouldn't be a Dan "The Beard" Greenawalt presentation without this famous quote.
Beside, I'm pretty sure he's saying it just for us at this point ! :D

I seriously hope the logo won't be like that in the photo mode. It would make the fourth Forza in a row with a terrible logo placement and size in photo mode.
I wonder if we'll be able to play with the time of day in photo mode, would be pretty cool to have the option to change it like in TDU.

its built on top of the fm4 famework. it looks like forza and most importantly, handles like forza with the same physics system underneath only improved. thats more than enough for me to at least be interested...

... but since one of the improvements over fm4 is tweaked physics for 65 surface types, and footage of bumper cam gameplay over a very bumpy and authentic looking dirt road to compliment the evo vs quattro rally battle from the trailer, i'm jumping out of my skin to play this game.

Do we know this is going to have several difficutly/physics setting? If you can also adjust the assists individually to your likings just like in FM4 then wow.
