[MS-Conf] Forza Horizon - E3 2012 trailer

prostreet is the game i was referring to

I didn't get what you meant when you were comparing it to NFS but now I do now since you mentioned NFS: Prostreet.

Pretty sure NFS: Prostreet didn't do well. The game wasn't that popular. I haven't played it myself.

i was pointing it out as no one with a brain enjoyed pro street, and if i'm on your ignore list how can you see my posts?

I must be brainless because I enjoyed Pro Street! (sounds were crazy)

Handling was absolute rubbish but it had one of the most authentic drag racing modes i've seen in a video game. It really reminded me of what I do in real life...
And yes, the whole festival thing, the atmosphere and culture in Forza Horizon does sound like a bit like Pro Street.

THIS! I still own the game and I hated most of it, but the drag racing aspect was really awesome. Burnouts were done really well and then the sound and fury of launching an 800HP Supra was awesome!

It is almost too bad the handling and graphics were so terrible because the game wasn't really that bad. And I honestly didn't mind the festival atmosphere. I guess if you have never been to a Formula D event, Pikes Peak or the Silver State Classic then you wouldn't "get" it. I mean, jesus, does anyone remember HIN? That stuff was 100x crazier than anything that will be in Horizon and it was one of the biggest car "events" there for a while. God, going to HIN was so much fun back in the day.

I don't really understand all the hate for that aspect. It is not what I would necessarily pick but I am having a hard time understanding how it is a bad experience. Okay, if you can't turn off the terrible announcer and music, then I will be incredibly upset. But I would think the actual racing/driving/world aspect would be enough to show how great this game is.

Again, not meaning to be rude, but I think you can really tell the "car" guys here. Those of us who have been to drifting events, or race events, or major car shows and such understand this and the actual driving trumps all the pointless window dressing. But if you aren't into cars or don't go to events, then I guess I can understand the hate.

I know exactly what you mean. It's the little things that devs didn't have to add that really make a difference in immersion for me.

Going back and playing PGR3 and 4, I love the dirt smudges and dust on the windshield and seeing them through the different lighting.

In Shift, you can see the reflection of the dash on the inside of the windshield of each car, and the hands and wrists move and change grip as you brake like the driver is tensing up.

In Race Pro, you can see the grain of the adhesive and a few air bubbles in the semi-clear window banners.

I love that. Racing games need more details like that.

Yes exactly this.I love reflections on windshield during night racing in PGR3.
Hands animations in Shift series are also great.I would love to see same animations in Forza because in Forza they are a little lifeless.
I agree, games need more details like this!
Next gen should be glorious.

Oh god. Oh god oh god oh god.

A sandbox racer with the visual customization of Forza.

I think I may cum now.

Wow I take back every bad word/thought or otherwise for this game.

Still hate that driving over posts gives you points. Doesn't make sense. Driving with style does hopefully we are seeing the PGR system employed here.

Everything else is awesome news. Apart from 30fps which I can completely understand when I see that they aren't BSing about the 20km draw distance...I can't think of any glaring issues or flaws.

Gravel and dirt racing looks fantastic. Roads were quite varied you had some good pavement and then you had some really bumpy regions that snaked through a canyon looked like a hillclimb.

The game is going to bring a lot of important tech to the Forza series the day/night stuff is obvious but the exhaustive list of track surfaces and the massive draw distances that will be useful for a Forza 5 running on more powerful hardware.

Not gonna follow the game religiously from here on out but I think I'll pick this up.

Yep. I understand that the festive nature of various car shows and racing events isn't to everyone's liking, but by God, i'd rather some vivacity and activity rather than absolute deadness and dreariness!

This isn't related only to car shows or drag and drift events either. Any serious circuit racing fan would see how things have changed over the years with regards to racing day atmosphere and entertainment. What used to be mundane and very basic non racing entertainment for the crowds, is now filled with girls, events, prizes, mini car shows..etc. Then you have the banners, the baloons, sponsor clothing, music and all sorts of festivities going on outside of the racing itself.
We've always wanted a more lively world in FM, something that resembles what we experience ourselves when we go to any car related event. Here's a chance to see that in action..

I'll most likely pre-order this when I get my paycheck this month :I , I wonder if there's going to be a worthwhile limited/vip edition for this.

also, seeing Xanadu get banned made my day, even if it wasn't for trolling Forza or other car game threads.

That is always the thing that bugs me.. Pre order Borderlands 2... 2 months later they announce the GOOD version. Happens all the time so I am going to wait till a couple months before launch to pre order.

Good news about Liveries being able to be imported over, saves people a lot of effort.

Good news about Xanadu also, hopefully his second ban will stick. In his words 'lmao lol baldy etc'

He will make another account like he did before. He's like herpes, never truly gone.

Anyway the liveries being importable is great news. I have a Sons of Anarchy grim reaper that is a constant flow of cash for me.

I am pretty happy with that car list so far. I am really wanting more "in depth" information. Especially about the customization, the road system, the real/fantasy Pikes Peak, the Pinks thing, and especially the Barn Finds.

I am just an impatient man!

The more I see, the more excited I get. I'll spend most of the time just cruising around in cockpit view. :D

Going to pre-order this one, NO DOUBT!

I wonder whether this is a single or multiple disc game and how would they even go about having this on more than one disc.

I hope it has most cars from F4 and a bunch of the dlc cars too.

I think they will have to make it happen on one disc. And since they already said they are going to cut down the car list, they will have to cut it down enough to fit in one disc.

Have they mentioned anything about this? Setting a driving game in Colorado and somehow not including Pikes Peak would be... strange.

Barn finds intrigue me. What a great way to unlock oldies and classics.

I'm liking what I've seen of FH so far, but nowhere near to the extent of preordering and booking a day off work. It's not like FM4 levels of anticipation for me, and probably never will be (Jesus - the wait between seeing that 'leaked' FM4 trailer and the release day was absolute torture). I'm probably more interested in seeing how the race event atmosphere is handled, and how that might translate over to FM5 (along with night, headlights, DRLs, gravel, dirt etc etc). If the rumours about the 720 having approx 6x the grunt of the 360 are true then there really won't be any excuses for all the 'missing' features not to be present and correct in FM5, especially if half of them are being road tested in FH.

I'd guess that the every day cars (civics, corollas, fiestas, etc) and race cars are the first to get cut.

They've specifically said that race cars wouldn't be included, and that Forza's D- and F-classes wouldn't be around either. I might not be remembering the specifics of the latter point exactly, but no commuter cars is probably a sure thing.

Oh ok, haven't read or watched any interviews for this yet.

I hope they have at least a handful of old muscle cars, though the odds of not having them is pretty slim, they're perfect for an open world game like this.

Doesn't make sense to specifically cut the F and D class. From the videos, it seems that the PI has been altered, but I doubt to the point of getting all those muscle cars out of the D class. We've already seen the E class (2002 Turbo) as well.

BTW, I didn't expect cars like the Twingo to make it in this game, not exactly the type of car I expect someone to show off at a festival. O_o

Slight mistake on my part; I meant E and F. Even after all this time on the planet, ABCs still elude me. D'oh! D is still in, I'm assuming.

From the Eurogamer preview:

But the Forza family resemblance is plain to see in plenty of other ways, such as the use of the same car classes and performance index (no E- or F-class slowpokes, mind)

Edit: Just saw your edit; maybe the cutoff point for D-class is altered so the 2002 is now there?

Muscle cars are definitely in, from that Eurogamer preview
The festival context also adds a sense of occasion to the game's racing: one event, "Mustang v. Mustang", pits your 1970s muscle car against the '40s fighter plane in a Top Gear-style challenge coloured by flares, laser lights and cheering spectators.

I'm guessing that Eurogamer is guessing ;) I don't believe that someone said flat out that E and F is out of the game.

Well I think Eurogamer got it wrong. As I said, we've already seen an E class car already, the 2002 Turbo. It was in one of the demo, when they were scrolling through the BMWs.
The F class being wiped out would make more sense.
Although, looking at the F class cars, I'd like to see some exceptions made. I'd love to cruise in things like the Alfa Spider or the Austin-Healey. Taking the 99 Turbo on those dirty roads could be fun as well.

Gotcha, looks like an E-257 on BADNED's car list.

Looks like Eurogamer goofed a bit. Now I'm not so confused.

I still don't know why smashing into fences would make you popular lol..
I wonder the same.

I also wonder why I haven't seen footage yet where the car manages to stay on the road. Lots of sloppy sliding, not enough high speed drifts.

Would have been nice to showcase some of the environmental variety to Colorado besides just the day/night cycle. That and shown more of how we interact with the Festival itself, something we've been given only the most brief flashes of.
