Fighting Games Weekly | June 4-10

"It feels weird to not have a jump, but kinda refreshing at the same time. Jumping in 3D games has always been awkward unless it's part of a move."

You do have a jump. g+up direction.

I usually watch TNT on Thursdays, if anything at all. Andry is back, if anyone cares.

But I saw this:

So is TRB always this late? It's 9 pacific now....

EDIT: I should really word that, "The best commentator in the FGC, Magus, is back again so you should care."

Usually start from 9:30-9:45. Sometimes they turn on the stream early for the pregame show, but tournaments don't normally start until about 10.

Why bother listening to Arturo's rant? I could already tell you what he's going to rant about: "BAH BAH BAH MLG IS THE BEST YOU ARE A BUNCH OF SCRUBS FOR NOT SUPPORTING THEM!!!!!"

Mago will be at CEO. Wish Tokido was going as well but its sounding like its gona be a spectacular tournament.

I thought Tokido was a lock since he did win CEO last year and he' going to MLG this weekend. Why would he go to America for just one weekend then go home?

Reposting from MahvelGAF. The E3 Ask Capcom which discusses a ton of things relevant to fighting games, much of it I feel is relevant to posters here because it touches so many topics we talk about in these threads:

Here is the Ask Capcom.

3:00 Shrugs off CvS3. Confirms no big E3 announcements for fighting games. EVO, Comic-con mentioned in events they could announce stuff. CvS particularly unlikely, licensing nightmare. Even CvS2 port would be hard.
5:00 Seth trolls Monster Hunter fans HARD. The joke he makes for the 10th anniversary :lol
6:50 AE no big updates planned. SFxTK updates discussed. "Fireworks" to be expected in the future, Capcom is looking at "everything".
9:30 Someone asks WTF is up with Darkstalkers. "The shirt said it best." Mention Darkstalkers needs room to breathe. They pretty much 100% acknowledge it's existence.
11:30 Niitsuma is in town, went to SF to talk to people at Marvel Games. All quiet on the Marvel front. No rebalance planned. Compares it to MvC2. Mentions juice.
13:30 Mentions no Magneto alt replacement planned. Says Marvel team has been scattered though and would be hard to bring back together. This is contradictory from what we've heard before that Niitsuma's team has moved on (assuming it's all in one piece at the time). Megaman question right afterwards with particular tip toeing.
22:20 Seth discusses on-disc DLC. Games already in development will not be affected, but in the future, a change is to be expected.
23:20 Seth talks Viewtiful Joe, but it ends up with him teasing some sort of "blast from the past" that they didn't see coming. Turns out Japan has some sort of autonomy and don't really divulge everything to Capcom USA from the way it sounded.
27:30 "Why not stop teasing DSIV and just announce it already?" Also talks game development process and how they give input.
30:45 December teased as time for Megaman Anniversary. "Stay away from our anniversary, Megaman weirdos" :lol I love Seth.
41:35 Seth talks Morrigan in UMvC3. Seth says ranged gameplay was one of the priorities going into Ultimate, and Morrigan is just the beginning of untapped potential in that angle of combat.

Stopped reading....
Licensing nightmare. We also know from before that SNK is holding up CvS games even though Capcom wants to do them. So yeah, seems a lot like SNK doesn't want to help make it happen, or is being particularly difficult. Probably a money thing.

Welcome to every major Japanese publisher that is not SCE.

You do realize Momochi got eliminated by some random Australian dude off stream in SS, do you?

Yea but that just one tournament. Did you forget he got 2nd at SSK2011? Or 2nd at Season beatings 2010 to Gamerbee? Or him WINNING season beatings velocity over Ricky, Poongko, Uryo etc...

Mago hasn't done shit overseas since CVS2.

Doesn't stop MK. It isn't like anyone knows ahead of time how the games are going to play out. KoF's artstyle is a throwback to bygone era.

I think anyone could've told you at any point after KoF13 released that it wasn't going to get numbers. It's more thriving than games like Blazblue and Tekken 6, at least.

funny they are wondering why kof isn't blowing up, the reason is obvious: shitty online.

Shitty online didn't stop Marvel from blowing up.

KOF blew up about as big it could have. The online only hurt it a bit.

What hurts KOF

- the mainstream FGC is intimidated by the game
- lack of nostalgia value in the US among mainstream FGC
- 2D graphics are considered cut-rate by dudebros, so they don't bother with KOF
- no Ryu

The real fact is- the "real" FGC is much smaller then the folks who just play AAA fighters (Capcom games/MK/Tekken). You're not going to jump into the AAA pool without a AAA budget and a long history of nostalgia.

It's like with TBS games. Civ is always going to sell the most , even if smaller TBSes like Warlock and FE are so much better, because of the budget factor and nostalgia factor.

As for MLG, they should have waited until Raleigh MLG for KOF. They would have gotten a much deeper and stronger field. (NC has a very strong and deep KOF scene- could have easily drawn 20 locals)

so... marvel?

Level Up doing what Level Up does best.... which is dropping the ball.

Did they announce that they were not going to stream Marvel finals? Because I totally missed if it they did, and if they didn't then well.. yea probably would have guessed it.

According to the brackets Combofiend in Grand Finals waiting winner of Royal Flush vs Fanatiq.

Chris has absolutely no clue what to do against Modok and his barriers.

Yeah, so either they just didn't bother updating the challonge, or it's still going but they're not streaming it. They just took the stream offline with no mention of whether there would be any more marvel or any mention of who won.

Seriously, fuck Level Up. They've been sloppy and unprofessional as hell lately.

Nope no announcement, probably didn't want to drop all the viewers hanging out for marvel :(

Mago hasn't done shit overseas since CVS2.

Have you forgotten that Mago finished 4 places above Momochi in the Topanga league? Ever since AE2012 Momochi has struggling and doing poorly. For all the talk about Cody being super buffed nothing is going well for Momochi. He managed to surprise people with Cody in SB but ever since then people have been exploiting Cody's blatant weaknesses and Momochi has struggled to adapt.

Mago wouldn't win 1st places, but I have little doubt that he would end up finishing higher than Momochi in the upcoming EVO.

What the fuck does Topanga league have to do with playing overseas? You completely took a discussion about apples and turn it into a discussion about oranges.

We are talking about Mago at CEO not Topanga. The other poster stated that he rather see Momochi at CEO because Momochi does better at overseas event that's why I reference a bunch of overseas event (Shadowloo Shodown, and two different Season Beatings).

SleepyKyo's original post.

Would rather watch Momochi. For some reason, Mago doesn't do that well overseas.

They finally updated the challonge. RoyalFlush beat Fanatiq to get second. Would have been nice to see.

Fanatiq gets 3rd at #TRB and Ray Ray gets third at #Big Two. This might every well go the distance!

It would be cool if Capcom announced umvc3x for December that will feature a dozen characters primarily featuring MegaMan as part of celebration of his 25th anniversary.

And my point is that the present Momochi is a pale shadow of last year's Momochi, so I don't see how he's guaranteed to do better than Mago had he gone to CEO.

If there was a new version of MvC3 you can be sure there won't be any more Megaman in it. Once again, Zero is the best Megaman and is already in the game.
