Here is the Ask Capcom.

3:00 Shrugs off CvS3. Confirms no big E3 announcements for fighting games. EVO, Comic-con mentioned in events they could announce stuff. CvS particularly unlikely, licensing nightmare. Even CvS2 port would be hard.
5:00 Seth trolls Monster Hunter fans HARD. The joke he makes for the 10th anniversary :lol
6:50 AE no big updates planned. SFxTK updates discussed. "Fireworks" to be expected in the future, Capcom is looking at "everything".
9:30 Someone asks WTF is up with Darkstalkers. "The shirt said it best." Mention Darkstalkers needs room to breathe. They pretty much 100% acknowledge it's existence.
11:30 Niitsuma is in town, went to SF to talk to people at Marvel Games. All quiet on the Marvel front. No rebalance planned. Compares it to MvC2. Mentions juice.
13:30 Mentions no Magneto alt replacement planned. Says Marvel team has been scattered though and would be hard to bring back together. This is contradictory from what we've heard before that Niitsuma's team has moved on (assuming it's all in one piece at the time). Megaman question right afterwards with particular tip toeing.
22:20 Seth discusses on-disc DLC. Games already in development will not be affected, but in the future, a change is to be expected.
23:20 Seth talks Viewtiful Joe, but it ends up with him teasing some sort of "blast from the past" that they didn't see coming. Turns out Japan has some sort of autonomy and don't really divulge everything to Capcom USA from the way it sounded.
27:30 "Why not stop teasing DSIV and just announce it already?" Also talks game development process and how they give input.
30:45 December teased as time for Megaman Anniversary. "Stay away from our anniversary, Megaman weirdos" :lol I love Seth.
41:35 Seth talks Morrigan in UMvC3. Seth says ranged gameplay was one of the priorities going into Ultimate, and Morrigan is just the beginning of untapped potential in that angle of combat.

Mago's overseas performance has been good, it's just that he hasn't won anything. But he's gotten 2nd at Canada Cup 2010, 2nd at Revelations, 3rd at SS2K10, 9th at EVO 2011, and so on. The problem is that Mago was seen as one of those unbeatable Japanese gods so even all these finishes in top 8 or 16 seem pretty underwhelming considering what people thought and expected from him before he first competed in his first tournament overseas.

I'm glad he's coming to CEO though. I think this is a good chance for him to win his first US major. I'm a big Daigo fan, but part of me wants Mago to win just so he can finally live up to his hype and win something for once. It'd be nice to get one on the board, because his buddy Tokido has so many that he's lost count.
 
Not only does Mago place better in the most of the same tournaments, he's also eliminated Momochi a few times.

But I really don't think it's a fair argument to make for either player. The level of SSFIV play is so high that 2/3 doesn't necessarily capture the better player (just who played the best in that 15 minute period. Just my two cents.

His first overseas SFIV Tournament was a win in Korea over Momochi's Ken, Kindevu's Cammy, Xian's Akuma (IIRC or maybe Sim?) as well as Laugh, Infiltration and I think Poongko. This was around the start of Super.

I remember that Xian had been prepping for Momochi's Akuma and got caught out with the switch to Ken. Miss Momochi's Ken :( Anyway I think after this Mago won GodsGarden Online 2, beating Sako in the finals. He hasn't won anything since, though he generally gets knocked out by other Japanese players with the exceptions of Mike Ross @ SS2k10 and Justin and Krone @ Evo.

When's the first match suppose to start? Say 15 mins? Anyone got the lineup for tonights matches? Beastnote only posts stuff about this when Daigo is playing lol... hopefully his coverage of the next A League ends early.

Anyway gonna buy the league pass for this like I did for the last one and will do for the following.

I'm trying to figure out how to cash in the voucher for 3000 yen right now... last time I did this was back in Jan for the first topanga league... hopefully I can figure it out before it goes to buyers only after the first hour.

Shungoku played far beyond what he usually plays because, according to F Champ, he wanted to be the first M Bison player to win a major and to wear that Bison suit. In Shadowloo Showdown. He usually loses to Bon-chan in Japan but during SS he defeated Bon-chan twice. Yeah I think Kim1234 has mentioned before that his execution is far beyond any Bison player but he loves to take unnecessary risks and has often been blown up because of that.

KOF blew up about as big it could have. The online only hurt it a bit.

What hurts KOF

- the mainstream FGC is intimidated by the game
- lack of nostalgia value in the US among mainstream FGC
- 2D graphics are considered cut-rate by dudebros, so they don't bother with KOF
- no Ryu

The real fact is- the "real" FGC is much smaller then the folks who just play AAA fighters (Capcom games/MK/Tekken). You're not going to jump into the AAA pool without a AAA budget and a long history of nostalgia.

It's like with TBS games. Civ is always going to sell the most , even if smaller TBSes like Warlock and FE are so much better, because of the budget factor and nostalgia factor.

As for MLG, they should have waited until Raleigh MLG for KOF. They would have gotten a much deeper and stronger field. (NC has a very strong and deep KOF scene- could have easily drawn 20 locals)

It's all about the artstyle and the names. More people will play a bad Street Fighter than the greatest KOF ever made(not describing an actual situation here, guys).

Great online doesn't help if people don't like what you did with the game. Good online only helps games people want to play.

SC5's problems were in roster and accessibility, not gameplay or online quality.


Bad online might actually help tournament numbers, as folks will show to play a good game with bad online. Good online might actually hurt, as fans can stay at home and get their fix. This is especially true if it's a game that attracts poverty folks.

I'm surprised Skullgirls doesn't have a more active online scene- I was certain that game would do better online then offline.

They showed Marvel for the first part of the night, then KOF for the rest. They usually switch the order up each week and that's fine, but normally they at least show the finals for both games. This time, they just finished off KOF and then abruptly shut down the stream, leaving a bunch of viewers who had stayed up till 2 AM pacific for Marvel finals wondering whether Level Up was done or not. Fanatiq, Clockwork, and Combofiend never played a single match on stream.

Oh man. Big 2 has been destroying WNF and the RB in terms of quality for a good while.

Some truth to this. One of the biggest reasons I started driving out to tournaments in the first place was because TvC's netcode was abysmal.

I think Just Guard really pissed a number of folks off. Maybe not the super-hardcore tourney crowd for the game who have put up with it throughout the years, but the folks who were on the fence saw it is a huge execution barrier and just stuck with other games.

Soul Calibur traditionally has been about accessiblity and easy execution- putting something hard like JG in the game goes against what people expect from the series. Add that to a changed roster and you've turned a good portion of your fanbase off, despite being a good game in the end.

The game was good, it just wasn't what SC fans wanted in a SC. If it had been a new IP instead of the SC name, I think it would have had a much better reception.

I don't really understand this reasoning, considering that just guarding isn't hard all to execute, and there has been just frames in Soul Cailbur since forever.

This and non-tourney players barely know stuff like just guards exist anyway. If anything, the game is simplified in terms of move lists and it's not as turtle friendly as it was before.
 
So SC5 hasn't gained popularity? Is the online still active? I haven't played in a few weeks but I was really looking forward to hoping back into it again.

What are the biggest FGs in the US? UMvC3 and SF:AE?
 
I was surprised how quickly SC5 died online in Australia.. like after the first weekend lol... SCIV had way more legs... but the online was terrible.

Levelup continues to just shun MVC3 like a red headed stepchild. Its continously bizarre. But whatver. Id love to see their metrics after the Runback was announced and after these weird switches to see if they have lost viewers. Me personally i just outright stopped watching their streams/archives during the weeks.
