So why did David want the xeno? Lol Lindelof. I can understand infecting someone to test the goo buy the whole sex angle is where it shows he doesn't have a fucking clue. Making things worse everytime he opens his mouth.

I'm just waiting until Vickers actually turns out to be a clone of Weyland that turned out poorly and forced him to continue perfecting his artificial intelligence's as an alternative because he understands how horribly unreliable clones would be. (Hence his preoccupation with David as being the "son he never had").

What's Shaw eating and drinking in the space horseshoe? Black goo, sons.

a) she survives on those baked beans she snagged from vickers' room.

b) assume the jockeys survive on water and food like humans, just as they do oxygen. there's a hatch on the ship.

c) she dies from internal bleeding well before the hunger pangs kick in.

d) enters stasis pod. Shaw believes the sociopath android or space gods will wake her unharmed upon arrival.

e) black goo + David's white blood spawns a Taco Bell

I think David had his own agenda regardless of Weylands pushing. Remember he wasn't to fond of his 'father' despite being an apparent indifferent robot. He also vaguely asks Tom Hardy2' permission before infecting his drink 'what would you be willing to do to get your answers? ...anything and everything'. I don't think David values human life and was independently interested in the results of his experiment.

I had been thinking about this.

For the same reason David did most everything, because Weyland told him to.

He didn't do anything with a xeno. He looked at her and saw she had a squid looking creature growing in her belly and tried to get her moved to stasis.

Come home to find my Prometheus artbook has arrived. Flicked through some of it and it's fucking awesome. Lots of production photos and concept art. Quite thick too, about 200 pages.

An interesting theory and one I most agree with.

The only problem I had with David is that he completely changes in the latter half of the movie, becoming a sinister/sarcastic android who isn't at all interested in the 'thing' that's created from his earlier actions.

he's shown to be curious but suddenly can't be bothered to take a few mins to see what Shaw had removed? Really annoyed me and somewhat ruined his character.

I don't understand what Weyland would hope to achieve by having David experiment on the crew. Was the hope that a dash of the black goo would somehow make Holloway healthier and more powerful, and so that it could do the same for Weyland?

That's what I gathered from it. Weyland was searching for the elixir of life and David was there specifically to help him do that. One would assume everything he was doing was in light of that.

Wow, looks impressive.

I know you haven't had a chance to look through it yet, but when you get the chance, can you check to see if there's any additional info on the Xeno shrine.

Why would Weyland want a biological weapon when he's interested in immortality?

The point is why would Weyland want whatever it is that comes out of Shaw? I can understand Holloway but Shaw is the monkey wrench that makes no sense.

To see the effects of the goo on a human. It's possible that the secret to Weyland's immortality/youth could have simply been held in the effects of the goo. Holloway was expendable.

I saw this movie on Saturday

Very disappointed. It had some good visual moments but overall I'd rate the whole thing as simply mediocre at best... if not outright poor.

Some of my biggest problems in no particular order: Guy Pierce in shitty makeup as Weyland, the living Engineer being extraordinarily aggressive and violent, that same engineer running to kill Shaw instead of just taking one of the other ships, Fifield and the Biologist dude being idiots with the alien worm, Fifield coming back to life as a zombie (what?), everyone - especially David - completely ignoring the fact that Shaw cut the alien out of herself and ran into the room naked and bloody, Vickors proclaiming to be Weyland's daughter like that has ANY significance what-so-ever... I could go on and on, more than my fair share of eye rolling moments with this movie.

This nails all my complaints! I really liked the movie visually and the fact that it was hard sci fi is always good.

However..

what you said is just nagging on me.

all they had to do was fix like 3 things and make this all take place on LV426

Actually, that's a good point. I assume they didn't foresee Shaw getting pregnant as her file must have stated she was infertile.

David looked surprised (or as surprised as eh can look) when he started to scan her and found out she was pregnant.

As for what Lindelof has to say, sometimes writers/directors need to shut the hell up.

I wouldn't go by any comments he makes. He says a lot of sarcastic stuff in interviews and likes to fuck with fans/detractors of what he does.

That wasn't a joking answer. The sentence before he gives a clear explanation for David's behavior and you're telling me that he gives a joke answer the next sentence in the same tone?

Between the events of Prometheus and Alien you don't think they'd send any other ships there to check out what happened?

The enormous expense of the mission combined with the apparent loss of Weyland and Vickers rocked the company. Investors lost confidence, Weyland stock crashed, leading to the merger with Yutani in order to save the business. Everything to do with Prometheus was buried.

(That's just my imagination at work)

I don't have the answers to these questions, Josh. I'm just the writer.

Fuck yooooooooouuuuuuuu. This is the worst attitude for a writer to have.

Some observation from the artbook.

-They specifically refer to the big heads in the room as the Engineer head. They say the look was inspired by Michelangelo's David, Elvis Presley and the Statue of Liberty - basing their size and scale on the giant portrait statues carved by the Egyptians of themselves.

- They specifically say the ampules contain a biological weapon.

- On Fifield: "[Infected] Fifield was considered to be the mid-point between the Hammerpede and Deacon, at the end." So does that mean Fifield was eventually gonna mutate into a Xeno?

I know you haven't had a chance to look through it yet, but when you get the chance, can you check to see if there's any additional info on the Xeno shrine.

They say the Xeno mural is a DNA homage to the Alien Giger creature. "It's kind of a homage to him. They look at it and speculate briefly about it. But it's not very clear what it is" - Arthur Max.

Don't know if they have any more on it. Still flicking through the book.

Again according to Lindelof, they intended for Holloway to have sex with Shaw. Therefore they expected something out of that.

Is it really so hard to imagine Weyland wants mulitple things and is willing to try many different ways of getting all of them?

This movie had such potential. :/

Though very disappointing in that it wasn't a film for the ages I hoped it to be, I did enjoy it on the visuals alone.

What are the odds the home release will see additional content or a director's cut that may improve upon the original? I seem to recall a few of Scott's film following that pattern.

Oh and fuck Lindelof.

I thought Weyland just wanted to meet his maker. When do they ever say he is looking for the elixir of life?

I'm pretty sure he says it during his conversation with Shaw. I forget the exact quote, but he says something about want to meet them to stop death or something to that effect.

Awesome, thanks for the info. If you happen to come across any more info, please post it here.

I'm thinking it was mistake to have it in the movie, homage or not...it didn't really serve any purpose and only ended up creating more questions that will probably never be answered.

Somewhat annoying, but at least it looked cool.

Yeah that was dumb of Lindelof to say. There's nothing in the movie itself that indicated David expected Shaw and Holloway would have sex when he's infected, and it makes a scene that otherwise made sense unnecessarily contrived. It isn't totally unreasonable to have guessed that they'd fuck fairly soon, but makes it pretty dumb as something to bank on to gauge immortality.

You put the black goo in someone's cup and watch them drink it, you can expect results of some sort, regardless of any other factors. It makes a lot more sense to say that the infected pregnancy was simply an unforeseen occurence. Or, that David could have hoped it would happen just to quench his own strange brand of curiosity, outside of Weyland's guidance.

They're saying they put that there as a homage to Geiger and some kind of fan service? Are you kidding me?

So basically the Engineer statue head is a monument to their God which they believe created them in His image, same as us.

Nah, they're celebrating themselves.

- The head room is called the 'Ampule Chamber'

- Some sort of "cathedral, with murals, iconographic illustrations like in the Sistine Chapel, with the Creation, Armageddon and Judgement cycle."

- "There would be an altar of some kind, without it being recognisably affiliated with any know religion, but have the basic feel of a ceremonial place."

- "Then Ridley looked at it and said, 'Can we have a statue, a sculpture or something iconic in the middle that celebrates the Engineers?' The idea being that the Engineers, playing the role of God in the universe, have visited Earth many times over millennia and given mankind genetic upgrades both physical and intellectual. How would they celebrate themselves? So we came up with the idea of a giant head."

Wait, I thought they cut 28mins of footage? I need all those mins. I demand all those mins. I shall settle for nothing less.

I'm confused because Ridley has been going on and on about no director's cut, but then Collider posts a video interview where he flat out reveals that a director's cut is coming and that it will be about 20 minutes longer.

http://collider.com/ridley-scott-prometheus-deleted-scenes-interview/172202/

Talks about how he really enjoyed making Prometheus and his desire to do the sequel. Also talks about how he thinks one of the biggest problems in our world is religion
We talk about how hard it is to make a movie that deals with serious issues when it costs over a hundred million dollars to make
How long was his first cut of Prometheus. Says it was 2 hrs. 27 minutes
Is the version in theaters his directors cut or will the home video release be the director’s cut. Talks about how he regrets not releasing the longer version of Kingdom of Heaven as his directors cut
3:22 – Says the Blu-ray will have around 30 minutes of deleted scenes
3:45 – Talks about the deleted scene between Noomi Rapace and the engineer and why it was cut out of the film
4:30 – Is the extended cut on the Blu-ray a lot longer than the theatrical release. Says that it might be 20 minutes longer (but the way he talks about it I’m not sure if he’s figured it out yet)

Sorry if any of this is old news... but it was dated yesterday.

have you watched the whole video interview? it's very confusing and Scott is not very clear on it. He reiterates that the cut in theaters is his cut and he will not be doing a directors cut since he is very happy with what's in theaters. he says there are deleted scenes that will be "on the menu" and the first cut came in at about 2:27. i don't believe he is even sure at this point if he will release an extended cut. i guess he might if interest is there but he seems content to just add deleted scenes and be done with. he explicitly states that this is not a KOH situation.

Yeah I just watched it and I agree, but... after that interview I don't think it's out of the question. My fingers are crossed. He did say that "the engineer fight would be in the deleted scenes but not in the long version."
