They updated the look of the marketplace and Skydrive tiles, too.
Can't wait for people to confuse SkyDrive with a weather app.

Best feature, when running out of space, add new drive, make a pictures folder, add it to the library and forget where it really lives.Ya know I've never actually looked into using it. Shows how much I paid attention. I didn't really realize it did that...
Have there been any updates recently to fix the crashes/lock ups?
The people having those issues all came from a cp > rp upgrade. If that's what you did do a clean install.

You mean a brand new tablet OS will come with an advertising platform that 3rd-party app developers can take advantage of?
No way!
Windu, props to you wadding through the Surface thread and being the voice of reason. Still trying to catch up with that thread and it's a damn mess.

To be honest that's much less obtrusive than XBLs style of putting ads in the content you're trying to navigate.

Those giant-ass ads look atrocious.
Microsoft can push ads at me if they give me the device for free. Considering the user pays a premium price for the tablet, any ad-bombing is fucking ridiculous.
really, really uncalled for given just how huge the advertisement in W8 is and how subtle it is in iOS.
I´m of the opinion that any apps, operating systems and hardware that have adds in them as default should be free of charge to the user.
It´s bad form to double dip by charging for your shit and then shoving adds in your clients face on top of that.

What? That is nonsense. I've had lockups and all of my installs are clean. I would never run an upgrade on a prelease OS unless it was for testing purposes.
Anyone have any benchmarks on battery drain on laptops running windows 8?
So I installed the Consumer Preview finally, and I freaking hate it. I can't be the only one can I? Every bit of tech press I read is just jizzing all over themself about Metro this Metro that. I think it's hideous.
I hate the fact that the Start Screen takes up the entire screen. I hate that nearly all the Control panel apps do the same. I hate that I can't set a custom image on the Start Screen (that I could find). I hate that I can't just boot to the damn desktop. I hate that everything is all sideways scrolly. I hate that Mail doesn't support POP3 or IMAP (though I hear it's supposed to before release).
I mean all and all it seems like a decent tablet OS, but as a Desktop OS? It just doesn't know what the fuck it wants to be. I have a 30" widescreen monitor for a reason - so I can have multiple windows open at once - none of this "all Metro apps are fullscreen" bullshit. Desktop has become a 2nd class citizen.
This may be the first Windows edition that I don't upgrade to. I'm gonna be the new Windows XP Guy, only on Win 7.![]()
.Take a deep breath.
Now ignore Metro and just use the desktop. Only use Metro as a launcher for any apps you haven't pinned to the taskbar.

they have said its comingW8 doesn't support IMAP yet? Who does MS think they are? RIM?
i assume he means release preview, at least i hope. Why did you install the Consumer Preview nearly a month after the Release Preview came out?

It's not really entirely possible. Anytime you want to try to change a system setting? Boom, Metro slap in the face. Want to utilize that great Windows Search to launch a program? BLEGH Metro's all over your screen. Seriously, I cannot imagine why anyone thinks this is a good idea in a desktop environment. It's so jarring to have your whole screen change anytime you just want to pull up a new program. There's only so much stuff you realistically want to pin.Take a deep breath.

The mail app isn't finished and they already said it will support IMAP in the future...
At some point there'll probably also other mail clients in the market place.
Whichever one was most recently posted to MS's B8 blog (in the last couple weeks).

I'm just so disappointed. I thought MS was really headed down a good path with Win 7, and they could've improved upon it from there. Instead, they want to try to chase after iOS and shoehorn all this touch & small-screen optimzed garbage in here and try to drag my PC down to cellphone level.
Out of curiosity I've just installed Zune application. My god, this thing is beautiful. It's fast, it's smooth, it's clean, it's pretty. Why can't the Music app be like this?
