I always thought the average american didn't get as much driving lessons compared to let's say, northern european drivers.
I occasionally heard of people home-schooling their kids how to drive and shit. Is that true? Because it blows my fucking mind.
I finally got my license a couple weeks ago. I still practice highway driving, but mostly at night.
Fucking hell it's so annoying when either people won't let you on, or box you in.
SCHOOLBUS: if you see a SCHOOLBUS anywhere near you, with any kind of lights flashing at all, just turn around and go home. Nothing further can be done in your car that day.

How long does it take to get a licence in the US? I've done around 35 hours of driving and taking my lesson in a couple of weeks, apparently 40 hours is the average.
50 hours for Nebraska.
That sounds fine, although being taught by your parents is pretty insane. After having real lessons I can drive so much better than my parents.
sounds absolutely mental to me.Over 18, you just have to show up and pass the test.
That and manuals is why we own at rally driving.I'm a US citizen (grew up in a midwest suburb) on vacation in Britain right now:
I hate your roads, so much. Did you know that in your road guides/atlases you rank your roads by RISK? I shit you not, in the atlas we have there's a RISK chart for all of the roads in your country. We drive along these country roads that wind and curve for miles and miles and miles, that are one lane wide, and people constantly drive 70mph and have to slam on the breaks the moment they see another car. There's apparently no rule about keeping tree/shrub growth away from the road either, just not directly on the road.
I do actually really enjoy roundabouts though, they make way more sense than 4 way intersections with stoplights.
I have one in my '91 Mercury Sable. It's built into the dash rather than the floor and sits up closer toward the driver with a release latch built into the dash itself. I think they're more common in automatics and are more for emergency stopping rather than fancy driving like many idjits use handbrakes for. They let you keep both hands on the wheel in an emergency situation like brake failure.
Unless you're just pissed at waiting 30 secs at a light, lights/stops for 4 way intersection are so much better than circles it's not even funny. People always almost fuck up and hit you or are going way too fast through the circle.I'm a US citizen (grew up in a midwest suburb) on vacation in Britain right now:

It's is explicitly reserved for Escalades, Range rovers and most Mercedes models.Remember: it's not an "emergency lane," it's an "express lane" and it was built just for YOU. When you're stuck in traffic and your exit is half a mile ahead, screw waiting, hop into your personal express lane.
By the way the asterisk point is false where I live, get your research straight OP.
TURN SIGNALS: in the US, these are actually called BITCH CLUES. Used correctly, they will show the drivers around you what you just did - one blink to indicate you already veered in front of them. However, used incorrectly they will alert other drivers of your intention to turn, merge etc, giving them ample time to accelerate or decelerate to PREVENT you from doing whatever maneuver you foolishly gave away.
I've driven in the US and it can be bad, but it's nothing compared to the terror of roads in India. I genuinely don't think I've ever been closer to death.
argentina was the scariest for me. They space themselves in relation to other cars and don't use the lines on the road at all. Probably safe for them, but I was about to have a heart attack.
fuck people that won't speed. if you're going slower than the flow of traffic, you're a problem, regardless of what the speed limit is.Fuck people that speed. Fuck them hard.
:lol at the OP. Best one in a while.

I've never seen or heard of a foot activated handbrake.

I love jumping in these lanes and blocking the pricks that try to bypass everyone instead of waiting inline like everyone else. Other than sex im not sure there's a better satisfaction for me.Remember: it's not an "emergency lane," it's an "express lane" and it was built just for YOU. Thread reminds me how much I miss driving in NJ.
He just wrote the driving rules of New Jerseys. Except he didn't say how your supposed to roll down your window and threaten the person that cut you off.
I use these to judge when I should floor the gas to get through the intersection.
Most people use these to see how much time they have to wait at the light

Researchers at Ryerson Polytechnic University, the Institute, and the University of Maine studied crashes and injuries at 24 intersections before and after construction of roundabouts.
The study found a 39 percent overall decrease in crashes and a 76 percent decrease in injury-producing crashes. Collisions involving fatal or incapacitating injuries fell as much as 90 percent.
These findings are consistent with those from other countries where roundabouts have been used extensively for decades.
They also are consistent with preliminary studies of U.S. roundabouts. The safety benefits don’t come at the expense of traffic flow. In fact, where roundabouts replace intersections with stop signs or traffic signals, delays in traffic can be reduced by as much as 75 percent.
“Given the magnitude of these crash reductions, there’s no doubt that roundabouts are an important countermeasure for many intersection safety problems,” says Institute president Brian O’Neill. “Replacing signals or stop signs with roundabouts will reduce the number of crashes and save lives while at the same time improving traffic flow.”
Wha?
Almost every vehicle I've driven in the past five years has had a foot activated handbrake.
Where do you live?
Well, technically, it's the "parking brake" here, but I was referencing handbrake because he used the term.In the UK our handbrake is activated by the hand. We are unique that way. We also play football with our feet.
I know you're being sarcastic, but it's interesting that Europe seemingly hasn't moved to foot-operated e-brakes.
I'm sure you're not the only two, but I'm glad someone called out New Jersey specifically. I moved closer to the Pine Barrens specifically to just have less idiots driving around me.

I didn't mean moving on in that way, just that the US seems to be migrating to it for whatever reason."Moving on"? Why, is it superior in any way?
