3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

I am looking forward to Nintendo's next handheld with 2 analog sticks. I will then play all of the games from 3DS on it with superior controls/looks. I remember how awesome it was playing all my GBA games on my DS Lite...freaking bliss.

About the Jeuxvideo.com preview, they say the bigger screen puts an end to losing the sweet spot if you move your hands or your head. They say it's a big difference with the original 3DS.

If this is true DAY 1

If it's true... I don't think I'll be able to wait for for another color or a black friday sale.

Who knows how Nintendo will tackle the next handheld, I'm not even sure if it's going to have to analog sticks. It's probably going to be a new GameBoy with no DS/3DS support.

Thanks, I haven't see that video yet

What's that big square shaped hole to the left of the charger port for?

Could it possibly be a power OUTPUT port so the "Circle Pad Pro XL" doesn't need batteries?

The 3DS has similar square holes up top too. No idea what they're for.

I'm warming up to the shitty US colors and I'm liking what I'm hearing from hands-on impressions. I'll obviously have to sample it myself and examine claims of "rounded pixels" and "soft textures," but for the time being I'm pretty excited. So excited I decided to stop playing my 3DS & DS games, I need to experience them on the larger display, especially the DS.

Ditto. I have a tremendous DS backlog, and I was just about to pop open Suikoden. However, I think I will wait now.

If they were going to be cheap they should have at least included a USB cable like Apple do with iPods.

I'm 100% behind this brilliant idea. I've bought these things for as low as $2.50 on amazon.
I leave all my wall chargers at home and take one USB wall unit for all my portables. Not to mention the compatibility with portable battery packs/chargers for extended play.

This should apply to all handhelds going forward.

Gamekult said the blue looks really good, the guy who wrote the preview said it's his preferred color. I'll stick with silver though.

I don't know I'd love to order one from Amazon.

You can already pre-order from Game Stop or BestBuy.com If you want to pre-order from Amazon I wouldn't hold my breath.

Last year Amazon stopped selling ALL Nintendo hardware, .......

Thanks for the heads up! Just preordered a Red from Best Buy.

It's not limited to the 3DS. Amazon doesn't carry the 3DS, the DSi, or the DSi XL anymore. Not only that, but they also list the old MSRP for the DSi and XL and allow third party sellers to claim they're selling it for less than MSRP, when in fact they're now selling it for 10-30 dollars over MSRP. It's pretty shady. I called Amazon about them allowing this and they said something along the lines of "Well, maybe they bought the units at the original MSRP." As if that means a damn thing when it comes to Amazon presenting the MSRP to their customers.

Dang. Amazon is hardcore trashing on Nintendo systems. There goes any hope of getting a 3DSXL from them for a discount. :/

I have a 3DS. If I bought I 3DS XL, what exactly would I have to do to transfer all my stuff from my original 3DS and its SD Card?

I recently bought a new 32GB SD Card, could I still use this on the XL?

On the Amazon thing, I wonder if it has more to do with Amazon's ability to be tax-free by locating their distribution centers in tax-free states. In that case the legal thing to do (from my understanding) is for the people who bought items from Amazon (or any online retailer) to determine how much tax they owe when they do their state taxes as if they had bought the online item from their own state. Of course, pretty much no one actually does this, which is where the occasional push to tax online purchases comes from before getting quickly stomped to death by the public outcry. Maybe Nintendo were reporting the systems sold through Amazon for tax purposes and putting Amazon in a tricky place.

I don't know. Money has to be involved in the reasoning somehow, but it's just ridiculous that the largest online retailer refuses to carry hardware from only one video game manufacturer. Insane.

When doing a 3DS transfer it tells you to exchange the SD cards in the systems. This will be a problem for people that want to keep the 4GB SD card in their XL. How does one transfer the contents of a 3DS SD card to another? Do you just copy the folders over to a blank SD card?

No the stylus is on the side now. The original 3DS has a square indent next to each shoulder button too.
It keeps moving! :D

Hmmmm

So I might need to 32GB SD Cards?

One in the system I'm transferring from and one in the system I'm transferring to....

No. Transfer just moves system data, it doesn't touch the SD card. So you do the transfer, and then you can just swap the SD card from the old 3DS to the new one. In your case, just copy the contents onto a PC, and then onto your new 32GB card. You can do that now if you want

You don't need to swap cards. You can just stick your card into a PC/Mac, copy the entire Nintendo folder to your PC, then stick in the new card and copy it all to that, and then stick that into the XL. If doing that isn't an option, you can always just re-download all your games onto the new card from the e-Shop. The transfer moved the licenses from the old 3DS to the XL, so the e-shop will recognize that the games are in your purchase history and thus allow you to get them again.

two 32GB cards?

why?

unless you already got 32GBs of gaming content I don't see why

I only have a 4GB card on my current 3DS I'll just transfer to the XL that comes with a 4GB card after all my transfers are done

I'll remove the 4GB card and transfer the SD folder to my macbook desktop then take a 32GB SD card and transfer that folder from desktop to SD card then put the 32SD card into my 3DS XL

I think that is all that would be needed if I wanted to use a 32GB card

Nothing special. The small "hole" is just a little lamp that lights up when you use the outer cameras or take pictures. Same with the 3DS.

Yeah, you're probably right. Since I probably I won't get an XL for a few months, and since I plan on downloading all my games from now on, I was just a bit worried I might start to take up a lot of space.

I wonder if places where you can trade in your 3DS for an XL will let you do a system transfer afterwards...

the blue is growing on me... I was going for red... just because grey will not come the the US
still may just stick with red but the blue is growing on me have 2 months to win me over

They should already be aware that this is something a customer needs to do to upgrade to XL from a regular 3DS if they want the benefit of a sale I'm sure they will allow it.

keeping my old one for streetpass and sharing
