3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

No no no...

The lanyard/strap holes on 3DS are on the FRONT. The two holes on the back are where the two tabs on the sides of the dock snap into place. This is why you can only lift the 3DS out of the dock front first, because those two sprung tabs are in those two holes in the back. Attempting to lift it out back first will lift the dock with the system.

I think i want one now. Tried playing my bro's 3DS but I just get hand cramps and have to stop after about 20 or so minutes. It took me quite a while longer than I intended to get to the end of kid icarus. Have yet to even finish 3D land because of discomfort.

Sploooooooooge. I definitely want one in my life. As someone else said, I've pretty much stopped using my current 3DS and will wait to play my games on the larger screens. If this thing makes Zen Pinball playable, I'm happy.

I didn't feel that much of a need to upgrade to the DSi XL (though the immediate announcement of the 3DS didn't help), but this is way more compelling. Half because of the Vita's screen size, half because it seems like this just needs to be bigger period. Larger sweet spot for 3D, a bigger size that may make the D-Pad more comfortable, and the fact it's far from the tail end of the system's life. Just hope Nintendo accounts can be smart here and allow me to share everything across two systems, then I could use the small one for smaller trips (bus/train) and street pass, and the big one for at home.

Don't know if this has been talked about, but I figured I post it anyway.

3DS XL does not have a second Circle Pad. Not yet, at least.

Nintendo will be offering a 3DS XL version of the Circle Pad Pro some time this year. The company revealed plans for the accessory in a Q&A about the 3DS XL that appeared in Famitsu this week (you can view a sample page from the Q&A at Famitsu.com).

Outside of the year 2012 release time frame, the Q&A does not share further specifics on the device.

Oh right! I forgot about the dock after I bought a case for it. :\

That said... I pre-ordered via BB. Thankfully I had some reward zone points that helped bring it down a little. I originally wanted to get it on Amazon but after being reminded of that snafu between them and Nintendo towards the 3DS launch, it makes a little more sense why it's not there.

That looks bad ass, still getting Sora red though. :P

And that is going to be much fingerprint friendly other than the very high gloss of the regular 3DS.

The machine is still pretty homely but the blue looks a lot nicer in the videos than the original screens.

For as much as Nintendo likes their colors they should just offer some service where you can pay a fee online and get a custom color or something.

That blue looks a lot better than I thought it would, but I have to go with the red one
(goes with my red Club Nintendo pouch that finally has a use :) )
.

Anyone know if its the same size as a DS XL? Not the screen, but the actual size of the unit. I have a case for a DS XL, just wondering if I'll be able to use it or not.

According to Nintendo's website it's:

L 93mm
W 156mm
H 22mm

And the DSi XL is:

L 91mm
W 161mm
H 21mm

The case I have has a tiny bit of give in it, so I'm thinking mine will fit it.

DSi XL had a longer internal one as well. But the big one is so much more comfortable to grip.
Well, I'd just keep using that one assuming you have it, not like a Wacom or anything that needs anything more special than a hunk of plastic.

I hate how my dilemma right now is whether to bite on this or save the money for the Wii U. Overall Nintendo wins..damn you Nintendo!
