I really have no idea how practical this is, but is sounds cool. I think it would be cool to see our guild adopt a Charr legion organization in WvW.
Charr only
That said, I'm not an officer in the guild, so I have no inside knowledge of what they have planned. Hit and run is perfectly practical.
What is the cooldown situation with the ability, and do the placed mine and the minefield share a cooldown (and for that matter can you have both out at once)?
If I pre-purchase now is there anything I can do before the last beta weekend? Install the client, play around with the character creator maybe?
Heh, if you had said "Asura only" you would have had like, half the guild right there.
At this point I don't think we have anything specific planned. I think most of us officers have been through the whole "militaristic, ultra-organized hardcore" guild thing. Beyond that structure being unnecessary in GW2 to get anything accomplished, it's very tiring both running and being run by that kind of guild.
Not all crafting materials are from nodes. You're going to have very rare materials that will go for A LOT of money from mob drops or stuff from chests and what have you.
Think of node resources as the basic/common materials and the mob drops/chests drops as the rare and expensive mats.
I can't decide which version to get =\
I really didnt want it turn into some hardcore thing since I dont think that is fun either. I guess thats why i was asking if it would be practical or not since I was thinking more along the lines of several dedicated WvW lovin peeps basically be the war band leaders (who by no means need to participate in any WvW since I think obligations is the death of fun) and form teams with whoever else is doing WvW and wants to be apart of the glorious Charr legion. If the guildy simply wants to join the zerg or dick around, then they should be free to do so
On another topic, I am also rather curious as to how the economy is going to be impacted by instanced resource nodes. Since there is really no competition for them, I really can't imagine that crafting resources will be as expensive as in other games.
Usually I dont bother with crafting because of the money sink, but with instanced nodes and the fact that you can gain experience from leveling your crafting has me pretty tempted to get into crafting from the beginning. Hell, depending on the price of materials and my money situation in general, I think I might save the materials that wont get used by my main's professions since you can gain 20 levels by leveling 2 professions to the max
As for the economy, another factor is to consider that the market isn't just your server, it's all servers. There will always be those that would rather hit the market/play the market than do the searching for ingredients themselves. I'm assuming that cooking ingredients will fetch the biggest value since they said it would take a lot of traveling the world to get ingredients and it's the most difficult of the trades.
Wait, You mean all of the servers use the same AH? Basically meaning that there is only 1 guild wars 2 economy?
But yea, I can imagine that cooking ingredients will be more expensive than instanced nodes. But I really dont think those instanced node materials will be as expensive as in other games. I agree that the special crafting items will be more expensive due to rarity
Yup.
From the wiki:
"The trading post is the Guild Wars 2 player trading system. It is global, enabling trade between all players across different servers."
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trading_Post
thats a good idea. Id imagine it will make for a more stable economy due to increase volume
Guild Wars 1 had a global economy too with its material trading posts having dynamic and automated exchange rates.
The trading post in GW2 is over 9000 times better and more involved, but it has gone down a few times under stress in the BWEs.
Yeah, the Trading Post is built on a web based server because you'll be able to access it via browser and mobile apps so they probably just haven't nailed down the servers for that yet. The good thing is when they went down they were always back up within a minute.

I'm going to take insane pictures of the CE. Fully paid off, I just can't wait!
Have they said if that app is going to cost any money? Personally, I think they should charge for it since its one of those convenience things, and if people are willing to spend money on that, awesome. It simply means more money for arenanet and probably a better patch/expansion game in the future for me
Oh, don't get me wrong, if somebody wants to organize Charr WvW events that's awesome and I'll happily join in (planning on a Charr Engineer at the moment, but I also think an Asura might be more appropriate).
I just mean that GW2 doesn't have content where people have to show up and even if it did I don't think many people (after years of suffering through that sort of thing in other MMOs) want the kind of hardcore show-up-or-you're-kicked experience. We'll obviously be in Guild chat trying to get people to come to WvW for stuff, working on dungeons, achievements, whatever.
I'm not sure if I'm geeky enough to do an unboxing. Maybe. Good excuse to wear pants that day, I guess.

I think it will be free, but I don't think we know for sure at this point. If you really want to keep supporting them then kick out some money each month in the BLTC.

I actually am torn between a Charr and Asura engineer as well. No other race 'feels' like an engineer to me, so its pretty much between those two. Right now, im leaning more towards charr
I'm definitely making a Human Female as my main. I've just always done it that way (the exception being a Blood Elf, since they were the only Horde paladins), and I have a certain name and look that I like to use from one game to the next. Probably going to be a Guardian or Warrior, depending on which one I have the most fun with in BWE3. Unless the Sylvari just blow me away, then I might actually consider making one my main character. We'll see.
I'm not sure I can get myself past the slow, lumbering animation of Norns to roll one, I'd love to make a Norn Warrior since I'm sure at max level they look like huge, armored Juggernauts... but that slow run animation just turns me off (I had the same issue with Tauren). I'm also not a huge fan of their "It's all about ME and MY GLORY and MY VICTORY and blah blah blah"... they seem obnoxiously arrogant and self-centered... the Asura have their superiority thing too, but it's more endearing since they're a race of diminutive mad scientists rather than big, beefy dudebros.
Definitely going Charr Engineer. I gave it a lot of thought and I know if I don't go with the Charr for this profession, I probably won't roll one.
I'm not big on casters or pet classes, so no Ranger, necro or elementalist at first. That leaves Thief and Mesmer. Based on what I played during BWE2, Mesmer just isn't for me (besides, my wife is planning to main one). Not sure Thief is for me either. So I dunno what to make my Asura.

My first character is going to be a Human. For my "main" I like to play something reflective of myself (appearance-wise), even though I have no intention of roleplaying. It just feels right. And as for class choice, Elementalist because fireballs and lightning bolts, come on.

*looks at his bolded part*On the norn, I made my Norn Mesmer a slim build, dashing motherfucker of a man. He was the smallest Norn running around Hoelbrak. But he was a pimp indeed, with his purple/white color scheme. I just wish the Mesmer had more of a focus in the class. Hopefully this BWE will give them some much needed love.
My man! *fistbump*

Look at that dashing motherfucker right there
I was originally going to have this as a Ranger, because I love their moveset, but the more I see of Rangers, the more I feel like the pet aspect is going to ruin it.
*looks at his bolded part*
*looks at Max's profile pic*
*looks at his Norn*
*shrugs* Close enough I guess!
And that pisses me off because I want to jump into the game and play, not spend hours agonizing if I've made the right choice.![]()
Well, dedicate your first levels to exploring, dynamic events and heart quests. That way you should get a lot of resource materials (dont use em). If you dont like the class, quit, and pick a new one, and simply repeat the process until you find one you like
once you do, well, level up that crafting for free levels!
Clever. Especially since I won't be doing any crafting anyways until I pick my main.
That, at the very least, makes me feel a little better. Thanks.
I still don't like not knowing what class I'm going to play. I don't think I've ever played an MMO, even my first, without having that decision made early.
So, I guess what I'm saying is... I can't write off any professions now, nor can I pick which one I want to play.

Found a good recap lore video. Guy does a really good job, still in the process of making them. Just thought i would share this, as my GF was asking for history and information of GW2.

Leave Jalis at the top, and stay down below. As long as no enemy gets within aggro range, Jalis wont move, and wont put himself in harm's way.
