No, they're just really close together.

So what's with the area in the far left? Seems like there should be some lvl 25-45 zones in that area.

That's the Maguuma Wastes, I'd wager a guess that they simply didn't have the time to fill all that in and they'll do so at a later time. The Asura and Sylvari sorta get the short end of the stick in the sense that there's not too many zones in their area (3 total). Everything converges towards Orr from any starting point, it just so happens that the other races have more zones in total. Though to make up for that you'll likely see a larger presence of Asura and Sylvari in the later zones.

Yeah that's my impression from looking at it too. Human/Nord seem to have the best progression (connecting zones linearly from 0/80), then Charr that have a few but not directly connected, and Sylvari/Asura who have very little and will have to gate travel quite early and go to other zones.

maybe for expansions?

They're already working on the first two expansions which will be Elona & Cantha. They'll continue to expand Tyria without expansions, but you'll also see more zones added to Tyria in the 3rd expansion. Essentially I think that they're going to kinda repeat the release order of the GW1 campaigns/expansion because this is the game they always wanted to make, but couldn't with GW1. This is kind of their do over even though their first game was more successful than 95% of the industry releases.

Agreed. I figured they're were just holding back. With the lack of unique zones there is less incentive to play those races if you started with another. Either way, at least the content is there and lots of it.

It will be great to play the Asura and Sylvari in the next BWE for sure.

Found a good recap lore video. Guy does a really good job, still in the process of making them. Just thought i would share this, as my GF was asking for history and information of GW2.

WoodenPotatoes does excellent GW2 videos IMO. Being new to the universe I have learned a lot about the lore from watching his videos. Recommend to anyone new to GW.

At the moment he's going through all the server names before launch and explaining the lore behind each in game location they refer too.

Already? That was quick. I wonder if they plan to reintroduce the classes (Assassin, Ritualist etc.) with the expansions.

Well I only said that cause they've confirmed they are working on 2 expansions and I've seen concept art of Elona and Cantha.

Finally decided on what I am going to play.

Male Sylvari Guardian as my main.

Female Asura Ranger as my first alt.

Female Norn Elementalist as my second alt.

Male Human Necromancer as my third alt.

I may make a Something Warrior later because they seem interesting but I know it isn't going to be a Charr. Not making a Charr anything. I just couldn't get into their lifestyle for some reason. I did like their starting area though. Is that weird?

I really wish Labor day was the 27th of august. Im probably going to need a recovery day after that weekend

I actually have that Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. I took vacation for Monday and Tuesday...and I have Wednesday and Thursday off. Almost a week of playing and then life becomes normal again.

Scratch that, my life has never been normal. Maybe a better term is "My life returns?"

The Asura and Sylvari do seem to be really gimped when it comes to their areas. After 25 I suppose it won't matter, but the variety at the start is nice, especially considering most won't be leveling up alt chars much until they put in a couple hundred hours into their main.

The worst one is actually an elementalist build, which I won’t describe here because I don’t know if I will have time to completely remove all forms of it before the next weekend.

NERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRF incoming! GOOD.

OP elementalists.

Jon: The mesmer is the newest profession as far as getting play in our metagame. This means we will be making more dramatic changes to it than to our more established professions, such as the warrior. We believed that the purpose of clones was distraction and not damage, and used the beta weekend to test a version of that. Because those changes went in recently, we did not really balance all of them. In the case of clones and Mind Wrack, they may have ended up on the sad side of the useless spectrum, while phantasms, particularly the Illusionary Duelist, had the opposite effect. Changes to this stuff have already been made and more will be made in the future as well.

Yesssss. give me delicious mesmer changes.

All this race, lore, and class talk. Love it. I know this is silly, but after playing Human for all BWEs, I kept telling myself (and yes, it's silly because it's not a race to the finish) "After playing so much of Queensdale/Kessex Hills, I'm so damned familiar with it, maybe starting a Human would be the best route".......then I remembered about zoning to LA/The Mists, then to Queensdale is entirely possible.

Obviously, this voids the personal story, but I don't mind that in the beginning. Leaves me to gain weapon skills, traits, and levels, then going back to explore and do the story.

I have no idea if other MMOs have/had this, but I'm not used to this freedom at all.

Female Asura Ranger FTW!

Awesome! Thanks for this. Gives me a little something extra to do today.

I seriously hate Elementalists. At least in WvW.

Thanks for the link, Jira! Great read. Would love to see some vids of meta testers and these crazy builds they are talking about. Not the actual build, just what they could do when they were as powerful as he says.

Well I went from 18-24 in 3 days, need one hero armor for 25 points and then it's into the home stretch.

How the hell do you beat Heart of the Shiverpeaks (as a Rit)? Christ, Cyndr the Mountain Heart kills me in 2 shots. I've tried keeping my healers (3 monks) in the hall right before the room to heal me, but they still get demolished in a heartbeat. I've managed to drop his armor with 4 powder kegs (as the guides say), but the only time I've done it, I died right as his armor dropped.

This is infuriating.

When I go back into Guild Wars I'm so out of touch it's an effort just to get familiar with the game again. I've got 18 points, which I suppose is pretty decent.

I sent you a PM from a few pages back as I have some Cloths of Brotherhood, and now a couple of Ancient/Stolen Sunspear armors if you want/need them... if not let me know and I'll pass them onto someone else.

Spiritleech Aura + lots of spirits, or a Necro with life stealing skills, will get around the armor so you don't need the kegs. Then Shelter / Protective Spirit / Protective Bond to mitigate damage.

That's odd because I'm the opposite. Maybe it is all the time I put in but I snap right back into GW1 after seconds. That goes for pretty much every class.

If anybody wants any of my GW1 swag, let me know. Not sure what I got these days but I'm sure there is some useful stuff. And I'm not going to time sink for HoM.

I wouldn't mind some free pets that you may have from birthday gifts. =3

I would love to get to 30 in HoM so I could get the black widow but just cannot see sinking as much time as I need to get it. I haven't played in awhile but are all the unique weapons real expensive to craft? Those and armor are about the quickest thing unless I want to try and get some titles but most of those seem to be a large time investment.

I just hope they're planning on more than a few years of new content this time. Last thing I want is to hear about news of Guild Wars 3 anytime soon. If ever. Just keep expanding this one this time! New content on a semi-regular basis is just simply a necessity.

Yeah, content for GW only stopped because they shifted resources from a third standalone expansion to GW2. ArenaNet also grew tremendously in size since then, so their ability to keep up should be much greater.

It's very likely, but you're speaking in certainties and I think it's a bit early for that. They could very well change course at any given time.

Already? That was quick. I wonder if they plan to reintroduce the classes (Assassin, Ritualist etc.) with the expansions.

I have no doubt that they will eventually add more professions; since the trinity is no longer valid, they no longer have to carefully rebalance everything to compensate for the new role (witness the clusterfuck that nailed Warriors, Paladins and Druids when Death Knights were added to WoW). As long as they are mechanically different and interesting, they can add as many new professions as they like assuming they don't blatantly overwrite a previous profession, e.g. an Assassin is just too close to Thief. A lot of the GW1 professions have been merged into the GW2 ones, so I doubt we'll see Assassin or Ritualist. Paragon seems to be the only one with enough leeway to make the transition.

I'm more excited about them adding new weapon types, since that adds new playstyles and skills to the professions that already exist.

Not to drag this up again, but it's funny; I used to read comments like "we're making sweeping changes to all the classes" on the Blizzard forums and my reaction was always "Oh god, what are they going to screw up and never fix this time?" There was always a sense of dread. When ArenaNet says it, it's more like "Oh yes, I can't wait to see what they've done!" Their attitude towards their player base and community are like night and day.

Also, I find it kinda sad that I can check out MMOChampion whenever I'm bored and read them saying the same shit about the same skills being broken in the same ways as when I stopped playing WoW 2 years ago. It's like the game changes but the discussion, complaints and (in my opinion) shitty response from Blizzard don't.

I was just mentioning to Jira the other day that I hope that their content patches (not expansions) add new zones to explore. I'm sure we'll all end up level 80 in Orr, but if they go back and fill in places like the Maguuma Wastes and Woodland Cascades as just content patches rather than full expansions, that'd be incredible. Especially since they don't have to be high level zones; they could add Maguuma Wastes as a 25-35 zone for the Asura/Sylvari and it would still be new content for all players.

The Crystal Desert makes sense as a transition zone right before they add Elona too.

I'm mesmerized at the thought of it.

Am I the only one who found the game to be incredibly balanced already? I played 40+ PVP matches as a Warrior, and I had extremely close 1v1 battles with every class. Oftentimes one of us would hit the downed state and then be able to knock the other person down before they finished us. Fights were that close all the time.

Luck of the draw. There were thief and warrior builds out there which were extremely broken. Organized play would be full of the overpowered stuff.

Same here. It doesn't help that all my builds from years ago are nearly useless. Plus the fact that I play a ranger, which means it's a little difficult to find builds that world well. I can't be bothered to experiment to find proper builds for me + full heroes at this point in the game.

Thanks for the response. Looks like I have some work to do to get that stuff.

I've always found GW1 pretty easy to jump back into even after a year or so. Granted, I don't play anymore except to help people out. 49/50+GWAMM means I have little incentive to grind anything.

If anyone here needs a hand or some kit, I'm always happy to help out a fellow GAFer.

I'm fairly early in the game myself, but can use anything I can get. Hoping to get at least 11/50 before launch. I'll PM you my character name.

I don't see Anet adding any further classes, frankly. Such an undertaking would eventually mire them in balance issues like what happened with GW1, though more slowly. New races and weapons, however, make much more sense. Tengu and centaurs are especially promising prospects for additional races, while I've seen interviews that give big hints at new weapons in future content.

Agreed, the deleveling system in GW2 makes new content of any level relavent. I've always been curious about Giant's Basin and the ruins along the coast. The Wizard's Tower by Kessex peak. Now Anet has the ability to add content with ease.

Screw Centaurs. Give me Kodan.

Personally I would love to see a Bard profession added to the game down the line. I've always loved Bards.

I would totally roll a gigantic badass polar bear

Yea, bards are cool. I would also be totally fine if arenanet just basically stole FF's blue mage (obviously call it something different)

I like the whole concept of a class that learns and uses creatures abilities

I played for three years straight with a sprinkling of Xbox 360 here and there. I don't remember anything, though.

Yep, went onto the Guild Wars build database and I found myself needed shitty Kurzick skills. And then I had to load all the areas, and had no idea where I was going.

Fortunately, they don't have sub-classes like in GW. They have stated before that because of this, its a lot easier to balance.
