Anyone thinking Cannen is going to come in and do what he did at 117 is sadly mistaken. Anderson was caught off guard by Chael's tenacity, but Silva has gone on record many times in interviews and in even in his documentary that he wanted to submit Sonnen for talking crap about the Noguieras.

I don't understand how anybody can hate either Jones or Silva. The most dominant, accurate, complete striker ever in the sport, and the most exciting young fighter in the sport. Makes no sense.

You are missing the point too. The reason I gravitated towards Sonnen is because he trash talked and it made it exciting to see if he could actually back up his words. Sonnen may be a bit on the extreme side of the card but the point is, like dream alluded to, he has personality and that makes him memorable. The trash talk gave me an investment in the fight to see what would happen.
It's not about the WWE--it's about striking a balance where every fighter isn't a quiet, do my fighting in the ring guy.
And that is bullshit to say that if I want that I should watch the WWE.

A knee strike isn't just the cap. It can be the upper thigh too. you can do a lot of damage with that part of the leg. If you aren't a fatass, just feel that part of your leg. It's hard as a fucking rock. Or go down to your local Muay Thai gym and take a few.
On purpose or not it was caught before hand and it's of no consequence now. Doesn't quite match GSP's level of greasing though.
He referenced the tape to Rogen's question of where he thought he went wrong, not in reference to the knee.
I understand about the thigh but it still never hits his face.

He relies on his quickness though. Randy fought well into his 40s because leg/upper body strength don't really go as fast as quickness.

I think Jones has the "Indy band" phenomenon going. Now that he's signed to a major label and has a marketing team behind him, people hate him.
Sonnen didn't do too bad as some of you are making out. The spinning backhand was a joke but the fact he got the takedown that Anderson would have been ready for within 5 secs and then full mount late was huge. He planned to grind out a win thats the way he fights.
I like Silva as much as the next guy but give credit where credit is due. Most would have predicted Silva to destroy Sonnen within that first.

Some part of his leg may have touched Chaels face, I'll admit it's possible. But really, the damage was done to the body, it's not really close to his face. I think you're reaching.

The big difference is those guys had entertaining fighting styles that complemented their mouths. Chael is a grind-it-out decision machine. Even Floyd at least has superlative defense that can be fun to watch. Chael will sit on top of a guy for ages and throw weak strikes until the fight ends. But to each his own.
