EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

Smash Bros and Mario Kart have been EVO games too. Do you expect those to return as well?

Speaking of which, I'd love to see EVO do another poll to determine a 5th (and maybe 6th) game like they did a few years ago.

It depends on what companies push for it. Some games have backers that buy them a place, see DOA and MK.

What point are you trying to make?

I do expect smash bros to return when a new one releases, yes.
The point I am making is that many games have been at EVO before, that doesn't mean the sequals to those games will return.

Also the hate that DOA5 is getting from it's own scene is not a good sign on it being a strong contender in tournaments. The response to DOA4 was very positive (from the DOA scene) at the time.

EDIT: Also Smash has it's own major event now...they aren't relying on groups like EVO and MLG anymore.

I just finished watching the UMVC3 top 8.

And man, fuck F. Champ. He did not deserve this win, mainly because of Phoenix. Fuck this shit, I'm salty.

It should have been ChrisG, mostly because he used his old team. All in all it was a good top 8.
And Infrit, goddamnit. He should have gotten it over F. Champ. Good games.
FChamp did not deserve to win this? He was the best player there and going into top 8 he didn't lose a single game. His last 3-4 sets he didn't even use Phoenix, in fact whenever he used Phoenix in top 8 she got bopped pretty damn hard. He won top 8 with his Dorm team.

I know people like to root against the heel and everything but F Champ deserved that win. He is the best Marvel player in the world right now.

And people need to stop booing Phoenix players, shit is getting dumb. She isn't even considered top tier anymore and against solid players/teams she is considered a liability and a gamble.

They've getting direct input from the tournament scene and are working along side AM2 for direction as well.

I want to believe you, but everything rikuto says or implies says otherwise. And Rikuto and Dr. Dogg are the only reputable names I trust in the DOA community, maybe Tom Brady pending what he says. Fuck listening to DOAMasters rofl.

I agree with this so much. So many people think Phoenix is winning champ games, but don't realize phoenix jsut snowballs his success. He mostly wins due to magneto/doom, anybody not realizing that probably doesn't even follow/play marvel.

I can't believe he lost to Hsein after he beat Kazunoko. lol wat

AE more random than Marvel confirmed. I don't know why but AE had a series of unbelievable upsets. Ricky out because of LI Joe, Eita out in pools, Ryan Hart and Xian lost to an online Rose (well the best online Rose).

Tomorrow after I will watch the top 8 SSF4.

He lost most of his phoenix matches once in top 8.

In the interview he said that he (champ) was stubborn (no surprise) using phoenix with Infrit, feeling that he was free. When he changed to his Dormamu(sp) team, it was basically over. He outplayed them both. Both of them made mistakes, still Champ had the upper hand.

As for Chris G, He got to top 8 for free. Watch the match that got him to top 8 and if that modok stayed up.... Chris G would've not made top 8.

But could've, would,ve, should,ve...

Reality is FChamp won.

Really because he was talking about how much of great change DOA5 E3 build was. You should youtube the e3 stream. Like I said they're putting their A game into making it something the entire community would like.

My guess on what is gonna make it next year.

SSFIV:AE
UMvC3
TTT2
KoFXIII(definitely locked)
MK9(Depends if Injustice gets a ton of support by the FGC, then it'll be Injustice)
SFxT

Mr. Wizard stated that for a game to keep staying at their venue depends on the number of entrants for that game. With KoF over 1000 even with a free shirt. It'll be there for sure next year. If the scene is big enough for new games, Mr. Wizard will add it to the list as well.
If P4A can get the GG/BB crowd, it can replace SFxT, but until then, this is it.

PSASR, DoA5, P4A, VF5FS, Skullgirls, GG:AC+R, MB:AA, BB:CSEX will be all side tourneys.

Now, I admit, I haven't kept up with Sony Smash Bros news, but if it makes it as one of the main games I'd be unhappy with that.

Like, seriously? Isn't this the game that requires you to KO with a super? Like, wtf?

SFxT was understandable in its inclusion; it's the new fighting game from Capcom. No surprises if it's dropped, I specifically tuned out of the stream when it came on.

I'd hope that Skullgirls shows up at least as a side thing next year. Unfortunately, I haven't heard much about its competitive scene after release. :/

Hsien had the luxury of seeing how Kazunoko played. Kazunoko had a beastly yun in AE in part because of how fucking reckless and random he is. He does stupid shit often(hence him being a seth player) and gets mileage off of it, he can't play nearly as reckless as he could pre2012. Hsien is a smart player.

I'm reading the forum thread that talks about e3 build with Rikuto and Dogg both giving their input. Master gave his input and even I don't play the game and know its LOLWHAT?

edit
I was going to be the CE DOA5 thing, or atleast thinking about it. But after reading rikuto/dogg's opinion of the state of the game...I'll wait.

Whats wrong with that? Meter management and you have plenty of ways to counter supers.

Wait, what the heck went wrong at Evo for Skullgirls.
There were only 51 entrants.

Even BlazBlue had more than that.
CEO (for Skullgirls) had more than that.
The hell

Skullgirls had 102 people. It was probably the second biggest alternative(side tourney) game at EVO this year. I'm gonna call Peter and we are gonna have to start powerbombing some people around here.

It has already been heavily hinted that SFxT is going to be dropped after Evo and probably got extended to the money tourney and a little bit after DLC. Pros hate playing it, stream monsters hate watching it.

A game that is played just for money from Capcom.

lol @ people thinkin that the number of entrants for KOF increased exponentially due to a free shirt!! hahahaha.

uhhhh you would be surprise how many people I met that said they entered just for the shirt. Just I alone have met atleast 10 people that said that. Some have never even played the game.

Next years games at EVO in my opinion:

Super Street Fighter IV AE
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom
King of Fighters
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Mortal Kombat

I gotta say watching King of Fighters (a game that i've only played a handful of times) was probably the most hype thing that I've had the pleasure of watching. Simply amazing.

It's definitely an improvement from DOA4 but it's far from a competitive fighter at this point.

Here's a quote from DrDogg:
DrDogg said:

If they were then we still wouldn't be asking for the same exact changes today that we were months or even years ago.

My prediction as of Right now:

AE, Marvel, TTT2, KOF, Persona, Injustice (via moneyhat)

Like I said it's a work in progress and for the first time ever TN is taking direct input from the community.

I really hope P4A does it big. Its already one of the most played arcade games in Japan according to Arcadia Magazine. Jiyuna says its really popular in Japan and has a big scene. Also Carlos (the CM of fighting games at MLG) has numerous times shown that he wants the game to be at MLG.

P4A got that cheap marvel shit without the TOD/Assist.

Like I said it's a work in progress and for the first time ever TN is taking direct input from the community.

But from my understanding, they still haven't fixed things that people requested since DOA3. Also they seem pretty adamant that they won't change certain things that the community wants to change.

Heres a snip of a convo between Masters and Dogg

Taking delayed strings out = Not happening
Taking holds out of stun completely = Not Happening
Unshakable Sit down stuns = Not Happening

Its not just me saying it. Its several others and Them. DOAD's hit statuses is the only thing that is up for discussion based off of what they said at E3. Will they do it or not is the real question. I think they should put it back in there.
-Masters

Well that's all very bad news. I do not expect holds to be taken out of stun completely (this is been mentioned many, many times already), but not removing the string delays and especially not removing unshakeable sit down stuns is a huge blow. I don't know if the game can be competitive without at least one of those three changes.

I'll still hold out that enough of my suggestions make it in so that we can possibly still get a competitive DOA5, but if your statement is correct, my hope dropped significantly. If it turns out like you're saying, the competitive scene won't last through the end of the year and I certainly won't be playing it.

Oh well, at least I have other games to play. Enjoy your 10-man tournaments and 70-player Evo... if it even makes it to Evo.

Oh, I guess the entry fee was $5 then?
My mistake, I was just going by the pot.

i'm glad it lacked entrants. Such a generic and shitty fighting game that adds nothing to the genre.

Also Why would P4 take the SCV spot when it's such a niche game?

All new news to me, we have TNs ear so if they decide to fuck it up then it's all on them.

Also Why would P4 take the SCV spot when it's such a niche game?

Being the biggest and most popular fighting game in Japan has to count for something. Not only that its probably the anime flagship fighter.

Exactly. I really wanted to support DOA5, getting the CE and all. But after reading up on it... I'll wait and see. I really don't understand why Hayashi wants to fuck everything up.

Really? The technical stuff surrounding the game like the upcoming Tournament Mode alone are really good additions to fighting games.

In-game stuff like custom assists and IPS are fantastic, along with the game being really fun to play.

well, if it goes by what is popular in Japan, we would have seen more Virtua Fighter on the Main stream than just top3

But the biggest thing is that it's Atlus that would be backing the game.
Look what they did for The King of Fighters XIII, and their game will get so much more attention.

All this talk about Persona 4: Arena....anybody have links to notable high level matches of it?
I really want the game to be successful competitively but I haven't been following it too much

1536 for AE
1248 for Marvel
1072 for KOF XIII
448 teams for SFxTK
416 for SCV
256 for MK9

These aren't exact, just math done with the number of pools in the brackets.
MK9/SFxT being gone will help relieve the time stress next year for sure.
