MadKOF made the finals for me. He was the only interesting player in the entire finals. (Well also the air of invincibility from Bala and his Billy was impressive)
Everyone else did the same shit with the same type of characters (Takuma, Mr, Karate, Kyo, Hwa, ect). Low jump hit confirm/command grab, long ass combos, 50-100 percent damage based on how much meter you have. Repeat.
MadKOF's style was complete different. His combos were short but he got you with surgical precision. The stuff he was doing with Duo and Chin was amazing.
The three most impressive plays at EVO IMO was.
MAD KOF Duo
MAD KOF Chin
Infiltrationy Akuma.
I agree, I remember the commentators saying how his combos with Kim weren't the best possible ones damage-wise. MadKOF played solid like a rock (even after the Takuma reverse OCV he stayed calm), while Bala looked a bit mindfucked, I think all the people's expectations got him.
There's definitely an argument to be made that it needs to be cut to top 6 or top 4 before the final day. The last few matches were absolutely intense, but the game's sets take a very, very long time relative to non-MK/SFxT games.KOF final 8 went on forfuckingever. I'm not sure how anyone maintained interest, there wasn't even much difference in style between players.

MadKOF never played for big damage. He was always darting around and taking little bites out of his opponents. 8wayrun.So I'm going back and catching up on bits that I missed out on that sounded hype (did KOF XIII finals, next up Super Turbo and some SCV). But what stream did the VF5 go down on? I'm not seeing it listed in the main evo streams.
What could possibly be sad is that I watched Evo in it's entirety all 3 days (other than a few hours when I was at work Friday).
KOF was the least interesting, flat out. Same characters, same combos, same play styles.
Was Infiltration having trouble? My favorite part of EVO was Infiltration saying "After considering reality, I'm going to win SFIV and SFxT."Why the hell the matches were so one-sided on sunday?

Considering reality... godlike fighting ability... name is "infiltration"... we are in the matrix and Infiltration is Neo!Was Infiltration having trouble? My favorite part of EVO was Infiltration saying "After considering reality, I'm going to win SFIV and SFxT."
Then winning SFIV and SFxT.
8WayRun has all the VF5 stuff apart from Top 3, which happily made the main stage/stream. Check the evosrk1 archives between MK9 and KOF.
Hmm, I wonder...Just curious, the people saying KoF was boring because it went on too long...
You aren't the same people begging for CvS3 or CvS2 HD are you?

Bala acted like he had never played against Dou Lon before. He picked a string of bad counters for him, depending on the opponent to screw up so he could close the distance. What he needed was a high mobility character like King. Her kicks cover space super quick and also hit high enough to avoid low fireballs. She would have pulverized him.
Takuma isn't very scary without meter. I also don't think he would be able to build it very well against Duo.It annoyed me that every round seemed to be him getting his first character killed by Duo Lon, then Takuma fucked up his Duo Lon, then his Chin fucked up his Takuma, then Bala would lose.
I was wondering why he never put Takuma first to put MadKOF at the deficit, instead of Bala himself taking it.

I thought the best move he made all set was moving Takuma to anchor.Takuma isn't very scary without meter.

Will be interesting to see what happens next big event when MadKof sits down with his Duo. Gotta imagine that any major player worth their salt will be spending a ton of time in the lab puzzling out that Duo match-up.
I know I'm a bit late, but come on son.
I host a fighting game night every week at my house, usually around 10 people show up, and to a person everyone was weary of the KOF finals. We watched the finals instead of playing anything last week. Even the few KOF players thought it went on forever.
Those best of threes were like 15 minutes or something sick like that. There was barely any diversity in style, you were pretty much seeing the same match over and over.

I'm sorry, but you have no clue what you're talking about. This is more wrong than saying that Akuma, Ken, and Ryu are played exactly the same way in SF4.There was barely any diversity in style, you were pretty much seeing the same match over and over.

It was almost all nonstop rushdown, every match.
Top 8 Marvel was shorter than KOF and would've been the same time as SF4 if the matches in SF4 were actually closer. It was 2 hours for Marvel and 1 and a half hour for SF4. A lot of the matches in Marvel went down to the wire plus the bracket reset.
This is pretty much in line with what most of the people supporting 3/5 have been saying. It takes about as much time as 2/3 SF4 and still shorter than 2/3 KOF. I have no doubt that Marvel next year will be 3/5 all the way through. And like Keits said, most of pools is just very quick 3-0s anyway and that's what happened at EVO too.

You don't want to travel and spend a lot just to get random'd out and lose so quickly.

Speaking of button checks some VF players should be slapped for not taking advantage of being able to do so outside a match. Also, I am watching the archives. It seems the average button check is a little over 2 minutes? I'll just say it's 2 minutes.
KOF being a time sink is nothing new, but also keep in mind that it didn't even start on time, so if you had hopped on the stream expecting Marvel don't blame just KOF for running past schedule.

They have had an exhibition on the last day for a few years now (iirc). Also they don't put those on the schedule because its kind of that "surprise" thing. This! What people fail to realize is that while KOF does indeed run longer than all the other official games. The EVO staff planned for it and scheduled it to run an EXTRA HOUR longer than the other games. If you want to put the blame on something, blame it on the exhibitions and other videos in between, which weren't part of the schedule (though I'm glad VF was put on stream).

Jaxel put all the VF5 stuff on YT apparently.

I think there are 11 matches in a top 8 bracket (could be wrong). I won't count the first one though.
So 10 X 2, so 20 minutes per top 8. Six top 8's (I know SFxTK wasn't 8). 120 minutes give or take of wasted time for the whole day becasue they didn't have the 2 station set up?
