EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

Yeah, I saw him just chilling, watching a game on the big screen. Dude was all smiles, and looks like he had a blast through out the weekend.

I waved at him and he waved back really excited. My morning got a lot better after that. That's when it hit me: "I'm at motherfucking EVO! AWWWWYEAH.jpg"

EDIT: lmao, Biz. DO IT FOR 'MERICA, SON!

Anyone else just kick $99 to the Ouya Kickstarter for the twitch app and having a dedicated FGC stream box?

Seems like the easiest way to do so as my current desktop isn't powerful enough to fun the streams in HD smoothly and I don't have an Apple TV.

It's a good concept but the specs are underwhelming.

lol

This dude really played himself after watching the documentary.

yup that's why I did, I might cancel it but I mainly want it for streaming.

Then you haven't been paying much attention to the development of DoA5. ;)

The developer is in constant communication with the community, and it seems like some of the changes from the alpha build to the e3 build are a direct result of that.

Many of the things they've added show promise, but I don't think it's enough. We'll see soon, though. There are going to be a series of tournaments with new builds. Should see how the game is shaping up shortly.

I think even if DOA pulls it off perfectly, it won't be enough. TTT2 comes out two weeks prior, everyone will be on that first, the VF crossover won't mean crap because the VF comm is going to be hellbent to get their game into EVO so they'll be going at it hard, so the folks who will be looking at the game will be mostly non-Tekken, non-VF folks who are willing to play 3D, and I just don't see the numbers adding up.

The only way this game would have had any sort of chance would have been a delay of about a year.

I don't hate TAC's but I do remember the vanilla E3 build where if you countered there TAC you could continue your own. I was kinda upset that they took it out.

Oh wooooow, that would have gone a long way towards making TACs better than they are now.

I love me some Guns!!!

and lol universal air dashes

Chip Redfield with that kind of air dash would be the scariest fucking thing in this game guaranteed.

LOL that was my thinking on the box.
Really thinking about it so that I can use the Twitch Ap and some other streaming.

Dunno why, but I'm happy FChamp regards Justin so highly. When he was giving a rundown of players he respected during the "pelican" rant, I remember Justin's name being absent.

Anybody know how Osamu felt about the whole event? I hope he had a great time. I'd hate for him to attend and then not have fun. I got a picture with him though! Pretty excited about that because he's an inspiration to me.
Smiled when Jebailey tweeted this pic of Osamu playing blackjack because it's shot from behind like the original pic from the donation page.

I had the pleasure of doing a 10 minute interview with Osamu on Saturday for SRK. CrossCounter Recorded it and sent it to SRK so hopefully it'll be up sometime soon. I played BlackJack with him Sunday night and I could tell that this was one of the happiest moments in his life. It's a real tear jerker seeing someone live out his dream and be all smiles all weekend.

I recommend buying a Roku, you can get one right now for less money and it has great Twitch & Justin.tv apps.

I have no idea what I'm going to do about DOA. I've been trying to shift all my gaming to the PS3 since I was planning on letting my XBL subscription run out, but there will probably be more players on the 360.

Gotta convince my cousin to pick it up for the PS3.

I talked with Osamu a bit in Japanese several times across the weekend and he was really happy to be at Evo. I never asked but I get the feeling it wasn't just the event but being in a place where he was just one of the guys was an aspect to it. It's one of those great things that the FGC has when it really counts.

A lot of the known top players respect each other and are friends IRL. By known, you must know I'm referring to the popular ones.

Oh I had no idea they had apps for roku. Been looking at one for a while now and this could push me to get one.

Yep and they work great. I believe you can grab the 720p Roku for something like $60 now too. There's also a really good Giant Bomb channel if you're into that.

I thought Marvel was Wong's focus for EVO? Or did he decide to start training more for the SF games early for the 25th tournament series?

One of my favourite moments over the weekend which I've not seen mentioned was courtesy of UltraDavid. It was late in the day during Marvel Top 32 I think, Chris G was playing and was getting bodied in the first game of the set and I guess he just put his stick down on last character at about 50% health and let his opponent take the game. And UltraDavid is all "Huh, whaat..?! No.. NO! Chris G you do NOT DO THAT. This is EVO. You PLAY TO WIN."

He got real passionate. Genuinely angry, even, it seemed. Like he wanted to say, "oh no way you're pulling that defeatist shit here." I thought it was a cool moment of 'realness'.

Seriously, it's like he was channeling all the collective disappointment in a move like that from everyone watching and really let it show through his commentary. I know I was feeling the same way when Chris gave up.

Still kinda bummed out about EVO being over.
I definitely need to go next year, don't want to miss it while it's still this way, I'm kinda afraid some changes might happen in the community, don't know. :(
I even started looking up the cost of plane tickets to Las Vegas for next year, 2000$ man, I should start saving right now.

When was that? During EVO?

If so, switching priorities during EVO doesn't have that big of an impact on effort put on training.

I don't think he switched priorities during EVO. I recall him saying AE was his main focus before then, though I don't recall at which major. It makes sense given that AE is the bigger game internationally and money wise.

I think Justin really wanted the Top 8, he missed it two times in a row (now three). This year after CEO's performance it seemed like a lock and yet it didn't happen.

Whoa whoa WHOA

$2000 for a plane ticket? You going by yourself since that's way too much for a single person.

TACs are like throws in VF except in VF they would need to instantly win the round (3 rounds to win per game) and then some to be as good. I don't really hate them either, but they are not very interesting and maybe make the game less interesting outside novelty.

I think Marvel's biggest problem are "happy birthdays". Now that is some randomness. Assists get fucked up enough at it is when players think about it, but "derp I guess now my combo is killing two characters" moments are silly. (If in hit stun assists should drop out of hypers or DHCs or x-factor activation. Maybe have the main character drop it in some situations and assist drop in others, making the player decide if he can't do it with a plain combo.)

(EDIT: That's assuming we've come accept x-factor and Doom missiles hasn't been picked for that match, lol)

That's the price for on person lol
There could be some cheaper options, I only did a quick search for now, but not much cheaper, probably around $1700 or so.
Yeah, it's hard living in Croatia :(

Happy Birthdays are not a problem. They're actually an example of perfect risk/reward.

Isn't that less about randomness and more about calling the assist at a bad time?

I mean, if I attack Spencer, push him back with a block string, call an assit, he pushblocks and bionic arms...

That's not random, that's me screwing up.

My opponent pressed the assist button at a shitty time. How is that random?

this

There are 2 mistakes happening when somebody gets happy birthday its

1) not blocking

2) calling the assist at a bad time

In theory it is sound, but it leads to randomness. It is a "high risk" choice everyone has to make to be competitive. In theory this means players will read sloppy assist calls, and this does happen, but in play you also get a lot of unintentional rewards and the rewards are huge. The best players can instantly be crippled for what amounts to a single dragon punch (without a round reset). Marvel becoming 3/5 is a response to stuff like that (with vastly superior players still having to make clutch wins to survive at times). Naturally there should be a cap on how much you can get a on guess. Not to say Marvel is a bad game (or a "random" game), but that doesn't mean we should treat it like a perfect game with perfect mechanics.

"Random" is not the word you should be using here. High-stakes (like say, Hold-em, compared to SFIV's 7-card Stud) is the better type of comparison.

People shouldn't be so uptight because people wrongly call Marvel completely random at times. I simply mean "more random" and random in the sense that the better players will not always win.

I think it has been longer than that. He seemed to be having a hard time completing messiah kick fadc ultra 1 (always came out as ex snake strike), but he was hitting it fairly consistently in the last few months.

ChrisG then went on to win that set. It was against Scrubeks, that was a really great match, very close right to the end.

IMO ChrisG really had lost in that particular moment with Morrigan against like a stacked team... but it's Marvel baybee it ain't over till it's over.

This is just hard for me to watch :(

They told me that Rubecks was sitting down and combofiend was walking by, stopped, gave him the

face and shook his head then walked off
