Guild Wars 2 Math
5 character slots.
Roll 1 of each.
Play 4-ever.
Also: buy two GW2 accounts (use "for my girfriend/wife excuse").
Ten slots, one per class, plus one in each account for experiments/access to the character creator.
Alternatively; Buy gems with all your gold while they're cheap. Buy character slots.
Two words.
Steve. Blum.
That should make it easier.
Steve Blum only voices Rytlock, right? Almost seems a bit wasted.
I'm torn between Charr and Asura for my thief. I love everything about the Charr but their size. Even when choosing the smallest height possible, they feel so big and slow.
I would not make a Charr thief at all, except perhaps a small and lithe female. Asura's animations already seem to be on the acrobatic side (that backflip backwards dodge), so a Thief might be quite neat. My advice; make one of each, go to the PvP lobby, check all the move animations, then decide.
Want to hear dat music again? Open up your GW2 shortcut and add -useoldlauncher to the target field. This is mine:
"C:\GW2\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe" -useoldlauncher
And Jira comes to the rescue yet again!

Uh, by the way, how in the world did you manage to learn about that?
- In the graphics menu, there is now a autodetect button
- there are two new graphic options - Render Sampling and Post-Processing
- The audio tab looks a bit different and you can now chose an audio device
Render sampling will downscale the resolution lower than the actual resolution for better performance at the obvious sacrifice of graphical quality.
Stupid question, but how does one bring up the graphics menu? I don't see the option, neither on the regular nor the old laucher...
I signed up for the weekend beta that's supposed to happen on the 20th and I can't wait. I've practically been on a media blackout for this game so I know very little. What's a good class for someone who likes to play mages/casters?
I would frankly say Elementalist. It has an amazing amount of spells and they're quite mage-y. Summoning phoenixes, walls of fire, volcanoes, earthquakes, rains, water fountains, elementals, elemental weapons (for you and your allies), and that's but a few of them.
8 classes.
Buy 3 more slots.
Roll 1 of each race.
WHAT RACE ARE THE OTHER THREE?!
For me, Charr, Human and Sylvari. Rationale; Norn is possibly my least favorite of the races (not to say I dislike them, but indeed they're visually too similar to humans; having FOUR human-like characters sounds like too much), and Asura's both genders seem to be quite similar. In any other game I would simply skip the human characters, but they actually look quite good in GW2.
Of course the correct answer is: buy five more slots or an additional account, make ten characters (5 races x 2 genders), repeat the two professions you like most.
My comments weren't really a criticism of the Norn race. It was simply humorous how this epic intro - which consistently talks about how badass Norn are and how unyielding they can be - covered the act of retreating. That's all. As much as is possible to have respect for a fictitious race, the Norn have mine; they've had it tough.
Just watch the intro cinematic and tell me it isn't kind of amusing given the context of the comment.
Oh, it is kind of amusing. For the record, I don't have a particular respect for the Norn; in fact, at first I disliked them since they were portrayed more like jocks/bullies than anything else. I was just theorycrafting about how that could be perceived, because it IS quite humorous indeed.
Thanks a lot, I'm torn between ele and necro. I've never really played a necromancer type before and it'd probably be a nice change of pace.
As I mentioned, I think you might enjoy Elementalist more. But, why don't you try both? You can create a character and teleport to the PvP lobby; there you can try ALL abilities against a number of opponents, including immobile dummies and AI enemies.
Though I plan to utilize various characters, I have no doubt that I'll eventually swing around towards favoring those which more heavily feature my single favorite attribute with regard to classes / professions: Versatility. [...]
For the record, I find myself loving all eight classes and swinging from one to the other ALL the time. It is the first MMO I've played where I simply can't imagine not making a character of each class. Also, choosing this or that class because of power levels/nerfs/buffs/balancing seems completely backwards to me. Balancing is ALWAYS changing in an MMO, sometimes weekly; I think most of us have faith in this being a quite balanced game with time. Class choice, however, is a quite more permanent and important decision, more so if your play style is main-centric (as opposed to alt-centric).
I don't know. I think it says something that even facing complete annihilation at the hands of a nigh-unbeatable foe, they're still unwilling to retreat until their very gods come down and tell them to make tracks.
I didn't actually interpret it as that. I dont' remember the cinematic but I read it as fleeing BEFORE even meeting their enemy. The implication being that actually facing him, even for the first time, would mean extermination. Should re-watch it, though.
That's a fair read of it. Still, it made me laugh. Maybe I was just tired. Just seemed funny to me at the time.
It is, I also thought of that; in fact for me it was even jarring. That's why I wrote about it; I wanted it to make sense in my head too.
After playing BWE2 with Pinnacle Game Profiler and my 360 controller, it made me realise that GW2 can play really well with a controller. I had a lot of fun but official support would be ideal.
I'd assume controller support has been put on hold until further optimizations have been completed but I don't know why they would scrap it completely. Hope not!
I'm actually thinking of buying Pinnacle Game Profiler just for this game, although it's quite steep. I guess it all depends on how well my analog movement setup works (I've made it so that tilting the analog less makes your character walk and tilting it more makes it run... or that's the theory).
