Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

"Which caster heroes have you unlocked?"

Vekk, Gwen, Xandra, Olias, and 3 monks. Could probably get Master of Whispers pretty quickly.

I'm a necro.

Long post, but should work as a guideline for anyone working on their HoM but doesn't feel like unlocking every skill in the game. Basically, always bring the first 4 heroes.

The core of most of the hero team builds is the SoS Rit, Resto Necro, Minion Bomber and Domination Mesmer. If you rule out all of the things heroes are bad at (which is an awful lot) then you'll be left with the 3 Ele heroes. If you can unlock Masters of Whispers then you'll get Sousuke and Zhed in the process so the last 3 slots can be Zhed, Sousuke and Vekk.

Olias:

Death Magic - 12 + 1 + 3
Soul Reaping - 8 + 1
Protection Prayers - 10

Aura of the Lich (Hell's Precipice)
Animate Bone Minions (Kamadan)
Death Nova (Kamadan)
Masochism (EotN)
Putrid Bile (EotN)
Shield of Absorption (Yohlon Haven)
Protective Spirit (Kamadan)
Aegis (Kaineng)

Master of Whispers:

Restoration - 12
Soul Reaping - 9
Whatever - 9

I usually use Icy Veins, Enfeebling Blood and Weaken Armor but since you're a Necro you might be bringing curses already. Smite Hex and Smite Condition? The elite doesn't really matter.
Signet of Lost Souls (Kamadan)
Mend Body and Soul (Kaineng)
Spirit Light (Kaineng)
Protective Was Kaolai (Kaineng)
Rejuvenation (EotN)

Xandra:

Channeling - 12 + 1 + 1
Restoration - 12 + 1
Spawning Power - 3 + 1

Signet of Spirits (Ferndale)
Bloodsong (Kaineng)
Spirit Siphon (Kaineng)
Ancestors' Rage (Kaineng)
Mend Body and Soul (Kaineng)
Spirit Light (Kaineng)
Protective Was Kaolai (Kaineng)
Life (Kaineng)

Gwen:

Domination - 12 + 1 + 1
Insipration - 8 + 1
Fast Casting - 8 + 1
Restoration - 3

Panic (Hell's Precipice) - Use Energy Surge if the mobs aren't big. Psychic Instability is also really good.
Mistrust (Kamadan)
Unnatural Signet (Kaineng)
Cry of Frustration (Kaineng)
Shatter Hex (EotN)
Power Drain (Kaineng)
Waste Not, Want Not (EotN)
Flesh of my Flesh (Kaineng)

Vekk, Sousuke, Zhed:

Air - 12 + 1 + 1
Energy Storage - 9 + 1
Whatever - 9

Thunderclap (most Prophecies missions after Iron Mines)
Air Attunement (Kaineng)
Aura of Restoration (Kamadan)
Shock Arrow (Kaineng)
Lightning Orb (Kamadan)
Chain Lightning (Ember Light Camp)
Prots / Smiting / Command Shouts / Curses / Res

That should roll through most of the content, although having Norgu and Razah would make a huge difference for the more difficult stuff. If anything seems too difficult - and Guild Wars is sure as hell full of bullshit missions - change Xandra's build to:

Communing - 12 + 1 + 1
Spawning Power - 12 + 1

Soul Twisting (Raisu Palace)
Shelter (Kaineng)
Displacement (Kaineng)
Boon of Creation (Kaineng)
Anything

Does the client downloader resume from where it was if you close it? It's downloading really slowly, won't be done before I go to bed later. Not sure if I should leave it on or whether I can just close it and start from where it got to tomorrow.

By the way, Hawkian; I just realized something really cool about your joypad bindings. Since you have set 4 and 5 to LB and LT, both of them have the special property of being quickly reachable no matter what else you're doing; unlike the face buttons, where your thumb could be busy with repositioning the camera or hitting another face button. Now for the cool stuff; those, being the left hand abilities, correspond to the shield abilities, if you have one equipped; "counter" abilities that are most usefully performed on reflex. Indeed, this means that the most common defensive actions (dodge, 4 and 5) are all mapped to shoulder buttons.

This is really neat, but I just realized it now. Is this by design or a happy coincidence?

it resumes but will start the percentage over again, so don't panic when you see it say 0% again.

I apologize if this has already been posted, but I saw this link on Reddit about the story behind the "Sanctum of Rall" server and it made me smile. ArenaNet is full of great people with real big hearts.

http://wildboarinn.net/2012/07/18/my-gw2-home-sanctum-of-rall/

Really impressive. This isn't the first time we've had people get little tributes in MMOs (some kid had his character turned into a quest NPC in WoW, and there's a few places in the world with developer tombstones and shrines), but it's the first time I've ever heard of an entire server being named that way.

I almost want to roll on it now.

I had the exact same thought. Something to consider if GoM goes south.

Why would they delete some of the high population servers and keep some of the lower population servers? Any ideas?

There's no such thing as high or low pop servers anymore because they did a full wipe so it doesn't matter. Just because server A was full before doesn't mean it will be again and the same applies to lower pop servers. Especially considering they trimmed the amount of overall worlds and increased the capacities. That and there will be over 100k new people coming into this beta.

I'll just check this thread Friday and I'd probably get an idea when it opens up :P

Or... you could bookmark this.

Don't let this scare you, he just updated about a patch (roughly 100MB) that wasn't live 20 minutes ago. Nailed it.

That's not an answer to my question though.

Why would they delete a server that had lots of people on it during the betas and keep a server that did not? The new list is arbitrary. It would have made more sense to keep the 16 servers that had the most people on them. Do we have any idea why these are the 16 servers that were chosen?

I'll be in the beta this weekend and was wondering how I join the gaf guild. This will be my first time playing guild wars.

Post your account name in this thread:

Also, make sure to check out the OP of that thread, because there's a lot of good stuff in there about our Guild.

My guess is to force people to not just re-roll on the same max population server again. If that server doesn't exist, they will have to re-evaluate their server choice. This should, in theory, lead to a more even server distribution.

Hmm, my client is doing something screwy. It pops up, but then automatically minimizes and I can't enlarge it. I have no idea if the update is downloading or not.

Hopefully something like this doesnt happen on friday...

I'm looking forward to making a fat, tall Norn to stomp around the thousands of Asura in their starting zones.

I'll call my toon Asura Megazord or something.

Mine is too and it's happening to some other people too. If it comes down to it, put the -useoldlauncher switch into your gw2 shortcut in the Target field and login the old way come friday. I'm going to guess since this isn't really an isolated issue that it'll be fixed beforehand.

Thanks, glad its not something on my end so they should get around to fixing it soon, because Im not exactly sure how to go about doing your fix, haha

Vinci sent me a PM earlier with a suggestion, and after talking to the GMs and Officers, everyone thought this was a really cool idea.

We're going to have a little GAFGuild "Meet and Greet" event tomorrow night at 9PM Eastern / 6 Pacific.
All you need to do is join the guild Mumble server:
Server Address: atl.eoreality.net
Port: 64742
(Please use your GAF username.)

The idea, in Vinci's words, is "to meet each other outside of the world of text and self-filtering. The idea is to get a feel for the sort of community we have here, rather than wait till launch and be surprised." We want to get people in the habit of using Mumble to communicate, so when the game actually launches everyone should have at least some degree of comfort with using this very excellent server provided by Ferny.

Nobody is required to talk, but the idea is to foster good relations with the guys you've been talking to on GAF for the last few months. If you're not comfortable, you don't have to show up but it's something we'd like people to participate in. If you want to just lurk and listen to people breathe, I suppose that's... creepy, but okay. Several of the officers will be there if you have any questions, comments, criticisms or lines you want me to read in my 'Batman' voice, but this is mostly just for GAFGuild to meet up and have fun.

Show up, speak up.

We'll also plan on having a little pre-BWE party on Friday, if people want to hang out and chat while waiting for the floodgates to open. No official time on that, just show up and we'll probably all be in there eager to get playing.

Probably happening to everyone. Mine is acting up and so is a friend of mine's.

EDIT: Yay, Meet 'n' Greet.

EDIT #2: Poor, poor Wooden Potatoes. ANET really screwed him up with this server thing.

Nice, sounds like a good plan. I'll have to make sure to be available for that. I hope it doesn't get too chaotic with several people talking at once, and being difficult to tell who is who from voices alone, but I guess that depends on how many people actually join in.

I tried getting on Mumble during one of the previous BWEs, but I've never used Mumble before so I wasn't sure if I was doing it right. Plus there were only like 5 people in the server.

Edit - Agh I forgot my internet is out and it won't be fixed until Friday morning (hopefully). Guess I won't be able to join in then. Unless.... is there by chance a Mumble App for Android?

Edit 2 - There is an Android Mumble App. There is hope yet. Though I suspect my mobile data speeds might be a bit low. I have had trouble using Skype on my phone.

There are multiple rooms on the server, so if things get too crowded people can head to a different chat. I don't think it will come to that, people should know how to talk one at a time by now.

Saved, will give it a shot! Thanks for the advice.

Remember that one small group of PvP guys that would run around and pick fights with zergs? I just noticed who they picked a fight with in this video.

Goons.

Remarkably, they do pretty well.

,
So in order to work on HoM rewards, you have to have Eye in the North, correct? And are titles the only things you get in GW2 through the HOM?

I'm surprised they haven't any Guild Wars 1 stuff for sale during the Summer Steam Sale.

Yes, you have to have EotN to access the HoM. No, you get gear (aesthetic), mini pets, ranger pets, etc for the first 30 points.

Here is my HoM. http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=main&details=AQAAAAg3OOCAAAAAAgDAAACAAACAAAAAPIEAQAAAAAA

You can see the gear etc you can get.

It's all gonna come down to co-operation really. It's 10x easier to take on a group of 40 when you only have 10 on say mumble vs if you're just doing group chat. This plus keeping your party alive and not walking over their bodies.

Hey guys,

Just letting you know that we just put Guild Wars 2 up for digital pre order for anyone who hasn't yet picked it up:

www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MAZ0PU
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008MAYXI0

You'll get a pre-order key which gives you access to the beta this weekend, as well as a $5 credit to use towards other video games on Amazon.com...so you could get Saint's Row The Third for $5 at midnight when we start selling it for $9.99.

Cheers,
Tony

Don't mean to be rude but I don't really have any interest in joining mumble or any other voice chat based anything for MMO playing. I like it nice and quiet with a chat log for communication. That isn't a problem for the guild is it?

Don't see why not. I dont use voice chat a good 90% of mmo game time. Other time i have the tv or music going.

Join up :) and place your game ID on the community guild page!
