now that I think about it....

the policeman who stopped Robin from bringing his bus full of kids over the bridge.....

his badge instantly made me think about those star of david patches you often see in Holocaust movies....

ie: as if they were being portrayed as collaborators.

IDK.... maybe thats really what New York City (uhm gotham) cops badges look like hehehe....

Naturally the stakes had to be raised higher than TDK, but it meant TDKR lacked what made the first two great. Instead of great villains given plenty of screen time and some very memorable scenes (I'm talking about both the Joker and Scarecrow), we had a rather bland, albeit physically powerful madman who wanted to destroy Gotham.

A Nuclear device that Batman just happened to have lying around, a countdown to destruction, it was all quite unoriginal.

I did enjoy Bane, his voice especially, but in the end he just wasn't as interesting as previous villains. Catwoman was the same. The very first scene with her showed potential, but every scene from then on fell flat and was quite lame.

"You know what you said about no guns? Turns out I don't feel as strongly about it as you do." PLEH.

Gordon was in hospital simply so he was on the island when shit went down. Catwoman was put in jail solely so she would be on the island when shit went down. Alfred... Well who the fuck knows where Alfred went.

The choreography and more importantly how it was shot really got to me with this one. The fight scenes have never been the highlight of Nolan's batman, but I mean.. It's Bane. The fight where he broke his back was good, but every other fight scene was so trademark clunky and befuddled. Same with the gunfights.

Soundtrack was great, Alfred crying was great, Robin (lol) was neither here nor there, same with Lucius and Tate.

Loved seeing Scarecrow back "Death... By exile!" Although I think they could've done more with that.

I definitely enjoyed it, was just a very busy film, and its a lot to digest.

LOL the scene where Catwoman is being put in jail and spins around the prisoner's hands was so fucking bad. I can't believe Nolan actually did that. :lol

That was some Whedon level shit.

That shot ended so quickly too, we barely got a chance to see what she did.

The direction was odd in a few different places actually.

I dont know about you guys but the film is great. Better than TDK.

Ending was justified.

And for all we know Alfred might have just been hallucinating. Nolan doing an Inception thing.
:P

Another problem for me was the number of new characters introduced in what is the 3rd act of a trilogy.

Bane.
Talia/Tate
Blake
Evil Business Guy.
Evil Business Guy's Assistant.
Selena/Catwoman.
Catwomans pointless but spunky young, blonde friend.
Dep. Commissioner Foley.

Sounds like this isn't living up to the hype.

Sucks

IMO, the hype is way too hight for this anyway. Its still a bloody great film for the most part. Just a weak script and some poor choices made along the way.

Nolan's ability to bring out awesome set pieces is still there.

Yeah Bruce at the start was cool, and Selina going from shy bumbling maid to super-sexy, cripple-tripping thief was awesome.

So many amazing moments in the movie, the most memorable being Alfred's and how Bruce revealed his identity to Gordon at the end-- just perfect.

For the ending, as the movie begins to hint that Bruce is alive and we start hoping for Alfred's version for the ending, I was wishing that Selina would be there with him too.... And there she was... Woohoo!!

By the way, I find it hilarious that Marion reprises her crazy bitch role from Inception. I saw pictures of her as Talia before, and it's credit to her acting that her betrayal still came off as a shock, especially how Bruce almost cried then, lol.

About Bruce's leg, I jokingly said that he may get a nanomuscle suit to compensate, but it he did end up getting something similar, haha. Although.... How did his leg heal
While in prison???!

Alfred explaining what he did with Rachel's letter was bad.

I did like actually seeing the backstory of Rhas' great love. That is one thing I feel that strengthens the past films. Everything else not so much.

Catwoman coming back and saving Bruce was completely predictable after their exchange. Obviously would have been better if - as Bane was about to kill Batman, Alfred bonks him over the head and says 'I hope you're not a membah of the fiyah brigade!'

Just remembered how time flies in TDKR.
How many days did the takeover took place?

I remember that when Bruce had just fixed his back, there was 20 days or so till the bomb detonation. I wished Bruce had been in that prison for months upon months and had to become the real Batman again.

Begins Bruce would have taken Bane apart.

:P

Alfred collapsed and died on the Waynes' grave.

(man I was so close to crying then.)

I liked it.

I feel like Catwoman could have been done better. Bane worked well enough, but his story wasn't fantastic.

I wonder where they'll go with the whole Robin thing. New Robin trilogy with a different director?

2>3>1 for me, as far as the trilogy goes. I haven't seen Begins in a while, though. Might watch the first two tonight and see Rises again tomorrow.

EDIT: Also, am I the only one who thought of this when Batman is taking that bomb out to sea:

The fault with her is the fuck session she and Bruce have. They meet once or twice before, and all of a sudden they're fucking and planning to run away together. I still think you could have had the impact of her betrayal without obligatory sex scene. It's shoehorned in and just comes off as a little cringe. Literally, lose 3 minutes of the movie that is dedicated to this scene and you lose nothing whatsoever.
You have a point there. Doesn't bother me much though, I guess you can chalk it up to Bruce not having sex for eight years? Hee hee

Thematically it's good but the whole Occupy Gotham thing isn't so much Occupy Gotham. I know they all say a citizen being the triggerman is a smokescreen but how Bane is liberating them I don't know. Just tell the fuckers you're going to kill them all. I keep seeing a lot of reviews saying how Bane stands for the smaller man, but he doesn't. It's merely illusion, and while its good the reviews don't give anything away, a lot of the liberation speech from Bane seems a tad unnecessary when he seems the type to want to tell people they're going to die at his hands. How he dealt with Dr Pavel was awesome though, and lol at the Mayor getting killed.

He did explain to Bruce in the prison that it's to give them hope so that their despair is sweeter (?), something along those lines I think.

Hathaway is just fantastic. The switches from timid to exuberant confidence, the fighting, her facial expressions; she's as sexy a character as she is looks wise. She's funny, intelligent... The Nolans really nailed her character. Her scene with Bruce at the charity ball is fantastic, her scene handing over the finger prints and pretending to be hysterical is great, the attraction between her and Bruce I thought was depicted very well as opposed to his with Miralia. Honestly, a brilliant performance, probably joint with Bale for me.

Hell yeah.

[Lucius, in awe after Selina easily takes down the mercs behind them]: I like your girlfriend, Mr Wayne.
Selina: He should be so lucky.

I've seen Hathaway play the tough chick in Get Smart, but she was never as attractive as in this movie.

Hardy was also fantastic. /snip/

I found him really frightening in the sewer fight during his whole 'you merely adopted the night; I was born in it' bit.

How in god's name did Bruce travel from the Middle East to Gotham? How did he sneak back in undetected? How did he just so happen to run into Selina? Hmmm.

And why was poor Talia just a plot twist, and not a character? She died like such a chump.

HE'S BATMAN
.

If someone told me before I watched it that The Dark Knight Rises ends with Batman flying a nuclear bomb out to sea before it explodes I would have thought they were trolling. It's getting on the bizarre end of the scale, but still, it works for the story Nolan and his brother have crafted.

I particularly liked how Nolan trolled us all by including Robin in the film.

No, they killed Batman. He was batman for like less then a year total, wtf is that shit? Dumbass movie.

So wait... What have gaf been spoiled with lately? Haven't most known that T was Al Ghulz daughter for like a year now? Many photos of her in the outfit last year.

The big spoilers would have for me been the fate of Bruce, that Blake is Robin and the switcheroo that Bane is Al Ghulz son but not really.

I thought the spoiler would be on the size of a Joker cameo or something.

Wonderfully huge film. Loved it.

Its not Robin.

Clearly not Robin. At no point does he assume the persona. He no doubt assumes the Batman persona later on but its not in the film so it dont count.

Explain. This is a different Robin? It is Robin.

Well it's Robin in name, but it's obvious that Bruce was looking for a successor, someone else to take the mantle and John is that person. He will be Batman (or maybe he changes the suit a little bit) for the next cycle.

The scene with Bane absolutely destroying bats was fucking brutal! Easily my favourite scene in the whole film.

Agreed. It was either that or the Bruce/Selina masked dance at the ball.

I thought their fight at the end was disappointing. Finally have these two ninjas from the league of shadows about to go all out and we get this up close and personal boxing match. Shit really was Rocky III.

Compared to the first fight yeah, it was disappointing, but I fucking loved Bats roaring and smashing the fuck out of him.

I also didn't like that every callback to the other films had to be punctuated by a flashback of said event. No faith in the audience to know what these characters are talking about.

Yeah this is true. I didn't mind it for things like Bruce's father in the well, but with the bit about the coat and the flashes of Harvey at the start, seemed a bit superfluous.

lmao JGL is robin? I really didn't think Nolan would do this. Pretty cool though i guess.. he definitely looks the part. Its a shame that its meaningless since there will be no 4th movie

No, it's implied he's the next Batman.

I wasn't very comfortable with Alfred having the 'Oh, you haven't heard about Bane? Don't you know what people have been saying about him! He's mean, Rock! He's got the eye of the tiger!' conversation.

I thought that was odd haha, where the fuck has Alfred heard this? At bowls with the other old fogies?

Will agree that the Miranda/Bruce romance was wank, but I really liked JGL in it, I thought he was great.

No one's mentioned it so far, but did anyone really love Bane about to shoot Bruce in the fucking face, because he'd accepted he couldn't beat him with his hands?

I liked the movie overall. I definitely didn't think the whole "Bruce goes to jail'" thing was handled as well as it could have been. I would've loved to see him fighting in there, learning again. Him learning total control over the darkness, and then using that against Bane in the final fight would have been amazing. Instead we just got a few pushups and pull ups.

Totally agree the sewer fight was the highlight of the movie though.

That bothered me on my first viewing too, but the second time I noticed they do lead into it, as in the first time Alfred just gives basic info on Bane and says he'll dig deeper, and it's only the second time that he talks about Bane's 'legend'.

Yeah, it really showed that Bane was a little afraid of him, what with Bruce using his ''WHERE ARE THEY/WHERE IS ITl' crazy voice and the ''you managed to climb out? I never did... :< " bit

Oh so that's what he said. Seriously Nolan. Get a new fucking ADR team. Jesus Christ. I never heard the 'I never did' part.

I understood every line Bane said, but it was too loud if anything. Better than not hearing it though.

Honestly I thought Hardy did a fantastic job. The character isn't as good as Joker and he's not as good as Ledger, but he has a harder job. The whole scene with him beating the fuck out of Batman is incredible.

I loved his speeches, he really bought into the theatricality and deception stuff.

YOU SHOULD USE YOUR LEGAL NAME.

I admit, I geeked out hard at that moment. We all joked about JGL's role, but Nolan zinged us pretty hard with that one.

Oh shiiiiiii scenes:
Flaming bat signal on the bridge
Bane punching the hell out of Batman's head
Catwoman's first appearance
Batman using the "permission to die" line on Bane and going all hyper-Batman voice in that scene
"Follow him."
Bane breaking into Batman's armory
JGL finding the batcave
The Scarecrow's Court. DEATH.... by exile.

I have a few questions though. Why did Dagget want Wayne's finger prints? Also what the hell was up with that Ra's Al Ghul scene. Was he a ghost? Was it real? Was it a hallucination? If so, how did he say all that information that turned out to be true. THE HELL WAS THAT SCENE ABOUT? Did the blind doctor mess up Bane's face as punishment? Why was Bane exiled from the LoS? Also what was up with Bane's magic killing touch? Did he emit that pain gas or something? Is the "THAT'S A DIFFERENT ANIMAL" and "NO MORE DEAD COPS" guy related?

So am i to understand that bane kills bruce and JGL is hinted as his successor? Kinda dig this idea.
Dude just wait a day and see the movie, why are you even in this thread?

I have a few questions though. Why did Dagget want Wayne's finger prints?

Bane wanted them didn't he, for the energy reactor? So in return for the finger prints, Daggett wanted them to crash the stock market?

Also what the hell was up with that Ra's Al Ghul scene. Was he a ghost? Was it real? Was it a hallucination? If so, how did he say all that information that turned out to be true. THE HELL WAS THAT SCENE ABOUT?

Hallucination in Bruce's mind, kind of like the chef in Ratatouille. So he knows what Bruce knows as opposed to knowing what Ra's knows.

Did the blind doctor mess up Bane's face as punishment?

No, his face was so messed up and his pain so severe that the mask was the only way of keeping him alive I guess.

Why was Bane exiled from the LoS?

He was a reminder of the pit that Ra's left his wife down there.

Don't get what you mean by the magic touch haha

I had trouble following conversation on some parts on the film, especially on the autopilot joke, I couldn't follow any of that at all until the last scene. Surprisingly Bane wasn't that bad.

Selina and Blake was definitely awesome, but the film definitely felt a bit cramped with their inclusion. You could imagine why Batman and Catwoman had the hots for each other, but it didn't really feel expanded on enough.
