Haha, that was awesome, and falls in line with what I was saying earlier: the prison sequence features a fair bit of unexpected, but appreciated, comedy. Also loved when the guy who had been muttering in whatever language suddenly started speaking english. The look on Bruce's face was priceless.
Need more viewings to confirm, but my initial thought is that the prison scene, from beginning to Rhas to Bruce climbing out of the pit to the chanting, was the best sequence in the film.
Bane breaking Bruce was the best scene for me.
The prison chapter overall is ace on paper, but was poorly executed imo. A lot of little things stopped it from being as great as it could have been. I did fucking love love love the final chant as he rose, though.
The Thomas Wayne flashback was poorly handled and ill-timed. Rather than a full blown flashback, I would have liked to have seen Bruce fail one of his jumps, fall into blackness and simply HEARD Thomas Wayne's 'Why do we fall?' over the top of it. That is enough to inform us of Bruce's mental state. The flashback comes at a time when he isn't in any need of that motivation and so it is jarring, rather than inspiring or informing the scene.
I wish Ras had been dressed as Wayne was accustomed to seeing him. They should have made him match how he looked in BB, because he was dressed much more flamboyantly and there was a kind of disconnect with evolving the memory of Ras. Eg: See the scene (and don't hate me for this) where Kyle Reese revisits Sarah in her dream in T2. He looks the exact same as when he died, as he should.
Ultimately I just wish we had stayed with Bruce in prison until he left. He didn't have nearly enough screen time or development in there to satisfy me. It all seemed very rushed.
And again, I can't stress how much I would have loved it if - after Bane and co had stolen and destroyed Bruce's equipment, he was forced to return to his last resort in returning to the Begins suit. That would have made been a full circle moment and embracing of the beast he once was that would have made me pump my fist like nothing else.
I also would have loved it if - when Bruce decided he was going to kill Batman and somebody asked him what he was going to do at the end, he replies with 'What's necessary', before taking the bomb into the distance.
BOOM.
