Batman is willing to die for Gotham, that is made clear in Begins. He doesn't need to die to prove his point. If he can accomplish what he is set out to do, without sacrificing himself, why should he die then? I don't understand why you insist that he must die for in order to complete his character arc. Reminds me of irreconcilable MGS fanboys who wanted Snake to die in MGS4 no matter what just for the sake of poetry or whatever the fuck.

Why does he have to live? Just so the audience isn't sad at the end? I'd prefer him to die so it wasn't every other comic book movie / cartoon episode / video game.

can some one clear this up? what did the mechanics say to Fox about Bruce Wayne at the end of the movie? They were working on The Bat and something something Bruce Wayne.

I just realized something: Autopilot might have been fixed before the stock market heist sequence.

Who knows, maybe he set the auto pilot to that location. The logistics of one man (even a Batman) being able to stash a super helicopter, then go and grab the bike, come up behind the thugs on bikes, rush to his exit spot, switch vehicles and depart. All insane without help or automation.

Hell, how did he hide the bike???

Unless...

The Bike has autopilot too! Bike took out the last thug!

Hell, the Tumbler in TDK had autopilot! LOITER AND INTIMIDATE!

Bruce Ain't too old to solve AutoPilot problems.

P.S. I think it's good that Bruce survived.

Almost every Batman story focuses on his tragedy, and how it almost always ends badly for him. Even Batman Beyond is kind of sad; he's all alone except his successor, and he dies still a largely alienated, brilliant, bitter, justice-seeking man.

This is an entirely different sort of ending for Batman that I've ever heard of. He gets the girl, has a well-equipped successor, has largely helped the people of Gotham solve their crime problems, and now lives as his own man, free of his past, of Gotham, of the cape and cowl.

A happy ending in a blockbuster movie is a subversion! Who would have thought.

Lucious asked them what the problem was with the autopilot and why they could never get it to work. Presumably he felt guilty that Bruce could have lived if it was working.

Techs tell them that it was working, and has been for the last 6 months.

Lucious asked them who fixed it.

Techs tell him the id tags say "Bruce Wayne"

The idea being that Bruce fixed the autopilot, so he could have bailed from the Bat before the bomb exploded.

Actually I would have been totally cool with it if Batman at the end just said 'whelp' and stood there, sent his Bat off with the bomb and watched it and then him and catwoman kiss and then Gordon and Robin and Alfred hug. THAT would have been subversive.

Bruce and Catwoman kissing while bomb explodes. Would've made Frank Miller rip himself a new asshole.

or...

them just sticking the core back in the reactor in time

No explosions and free energy for everyone

"5... 4... 3... 2... Reactor stabilized."

*Crowd cheers*

*American flag waved*

*Batman and Catwoman get married wearing the suit, with that annoying orphan kid running to altar and hugging Batman. Batman takes off the mask and gives it to kid, and crowd cheers knowing Bruce is Batman*.

Imagine what Lucius was thinking when he saw Catwoman for the first time rescuing him and Wayne. They tried to set up Miranda with him for years and now he disappears for months with the city under siege and then reappears with a woman with a skin tight suit.

"And yes, it does come in black Mr. Wayneee."

Bruce was really unnecessarily chickenshit about the fusion core, wasn't he? Yeah it could be co-opted to be turned into a bomb but it was a FREE ENERGY MACHINE. I mean, the bomb wasn't even that big, looks like it detonated about a mile out into the bay and nobody even got a tan.

I'm oddly disappointed with the movie. I just felt that so much more elements in the movie(bane breaking his back, the fact that he was old, nuke at the end of the movie) could have been used a whole better than they were. A little too much used on cliche, especially with the end with Alfred. Nonetheless it was still good movie and still the best comic book movie since DK. I just feel that it could have been even better.

Two words: Second Viewing.

What.

That scene with Alfred just nodding at Bruce, is so well done though! So much perfect closure.

I would like to add that I did not think Hathaway could pull of the role of Catwoman, but she did so superbly. The way she moved emphasized that feline aspect of her character... and made her much more attractive.

Plus, the cat ears were a nice little touch.

Just finished watching this and really enjoyed it. Easily my favorite of the trilogy. Bane breaking the Bat was fucking awesome even if I already knew it was coming. I figured out the Talia thing pretty early on, not that she was the kid but that she was Miranda. I really enjoyed Anne Hathaway as Catwoman too, I was unsure going in but she was awesome in that role. Makes me kind of sad we (probably) won’t see her as Catwoman again.

for a second I was toying with the idea of a movie where Batman is dead, but when they got to the funeral scene and Alfred was ballin about failing to protect Bruce, I didn't want it anymore

for me personally, I couldnt call myself a Batman fan if I wanted him dead :p

Except for BLAKE DOGGAMMIT! Yes, I will be bitching about this until the end of time.

I don't like the idea of sidekicks/subordinates/successors to heroes. It should be enough to close one story. I really thought Nolan would have the balls to stamp his foot down and say 'This is Bruce's story. It is ending. That's it.'

I guess that is also why I don't love Catwoman. She is basically his sidekick in the movie. Batman shouldn't need her. She is Random Chick Who Knows Kung Fu #7584.

If you're going to have a chick kicking ass in the movie, make it the one trained by the League of Shadows, damn you dolan. Goddamn fan service ruining movies.

He had a note or something with GPS coordinates.

That's what he received at the hearing right?

Another thing... This was suppose to be the same cave as the one in Begins right? If it is, how odd that Bane didn't know where it was. He certainly knew about everything else.

I find it hard to accept that Batman didn't need her. She was the only reason Batman wasn't blown away by a shotgun by Bane.

_____________

Also about Blake... Yes it was Bruce Wayne's story. However Bruce created something that cannot be destroyed, something greater than himself. When he took the bomb out into the bay? That wasn't Batman dying, that was Bruce Wayne dying. You can't kill an idea. You can't kill the Batman.

Your tears are delicious.

Mightwing would be cool. I just imagine that they were implying "Robin" would become Batamn. That Batman's legacy would continue without Bruce Wayne. Completely different from the comics, but I don't see why Robin would use a different moniker.

Naa, I'm glad Mightwing wasn't shown. Such a shit character really, always second guessing.
