No one could really know but I do hope it's a new color rather than a design (zelda).
Or better yet, both, like the Mario 25th Anniversary one.
Can't wait to upgrade though and transfer my Ambassador license that I earned and deserved because I paid more money earlier than other people like a good boy. Tired of using these tiny 3DS screens. My VC games are just itching to be played in 1:1 mode.

i bought an ambassador 3DS, took the license & games and sold it back on ebay for a profit. i took a rather small amount of work & was totally worth it to have minish cap, fusion, fire emblem etc on a very long trip.

A White or Pink XL with a Kirby 20th logo w/ Mass Attack included would make me very happy. A Green one with LM2 would also please me. Gold w/ NSMB2, White w/ Pkmn White 2, Black w/ Pkmn Black 2... there's a lot they can do. I just hope that they don't half ass it, or give the special color to the OG 3DS.
I just want something that isn't X/Black. The Red (and Silver) looks nice but I know I'll regret getting it down the road

They're all region locked. You can't play US stuff on a UK model and vice versa.

Basically confirmed now the XL has a 75% reduced screen glare. So hopefully no more seeing yourself in the screen. Might help trying to play it outside. If its not to sunny I guess.

So, anyone have any guesses on what the special edition handheld will be this year for Christmas, since they always show up? I'm thinking a Red XL + NSMB2 or a Green XL/OG + LM2. I hope for a White XL + whatever though :/
Honestly, putting some clues together I'd say the bundle will be:
Midnight Purple 3DS + Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon (also notice the aura around LMDM logo = Purple)

I lucked out. My Stepson was part rewarded (paid for most with his saved allowance), with a 3DS on launch. I thought it was a pretty cool system. I picked up an iPad 2 that March, instead. Then as Ita was rolling around E3 that year and the system was building hype (o set launch), I decided to either preorder Vita or pick up a 3DS right then. I checked Walmart.com, saw a sale price of $169. Went to the store, saw it was still $249. Asked about the pricing difference, got no real info. Decided, on my way home from work the following day, to stroll in to Walmart and just buy the thing and get a price adjustment if I dropped down shortly after. What do ya know? They had it for $169. This was August 10. Apparently, lucked out and was able to be an "ambassador", because of a retailer screw up. So both my little guy and I have ambassador 3DS units (rolled mine from the Aqua to Purple).
Fittingly, the Aqua unit needed repair by Nintendo - karma right? But I've since warmed to the platform, and when anyone mentions gaming I recommend 3DS if they loved the gameplay/styles/genres of the beloved PS2/GCN era. Favorite handheld, to me.
Can't wait for the XL - switched order from red to blue, but now, I'm on the fence again. Hopefully you guys will post great pics from EU/JP launch, which happens before the US launch. Then I will have an idea of which color looks better in real life (house lighting, outside lighting, etc)...

That's probably the path they'll take = cost efficient to bundle something that is released, vs. creating something original and produce. The current 3DS will still remain the dominant/main sku. The XL is not a supplant, just an alternate model. Most people will still pick the cheaper, current 3DS model over an XL at retail. Makes sense for Nintendo to bundle the cheaper/already colors available regular 3DS with a game. They'd lose less money that way.
If they do bundle XL, it'll be with Mario, in some form...Mario wears red and blue. We are getting red and blue XL's in the US. Coincidence? Probably not.
For the last few holidays, Nintendo has released new original colors in bundles... Mario Kart Red DS; Mario Red DS lite; Metallic Blue, Orange, and Green DSi's; Mario Red and Metallic Rose DSi XL's; Zelda LE and Pink 3DS's, just off the top of my head... they're always making new systems for Black Friday.
I'm hoping that they put out a new 3DS and a new 3DS XL, like they did in 2010 with new DSi's and new DSi XL's. I just want NoA to release a white one soooo bad

I think that's the normal DSi, not the XL, but anyway a Wii bundled with a DSi is awesome, and it comes with two games and Mario Galaxy OST which is great.

Despite reading every post here and watching a ridiculous amount of people fumbling around with the handheld on YouTube, all I can say is..... my body was not ready.
DEM screens!
The most striking thing about the XL, despite it being bigger and heavier than the 3DS, is how thin/small and light it feels in the hand. It's very solid and well built in comparison to the OG model and is more comfortable to hold and play by far.
The minor adjustments are all appreciated (multi-screen positions, clickable 3D slider, LED re-positioning) whereas the major (matte finish, stylus position, SCREENS) definitely remedy everything that was wrong with the initial model.
The screens are very slightly dimmer and are also as unfortunately reported slightly softer.
Your millage may vary on this however. Admittedly I am rather pedantic regarding displays, the person I was with could notice no difference, despite having the XL side-by-side with an OG 3DS.....
The sheer size of the screens however outweigh whatever 'imperfections' (I use that word generously) are present, though to comment on them is slightly pointless, it wasn't until having the screens right in front of my face that I got why they are a big deal.

Of course I would. When I'm playing it, people will actually see the art correctly. Or if I want to display it with a collection, I can put it on the shelf with the top open and facing outward. The way they currently do special DS art, it'd be upside down.
The laptop industry figured this all out about 10 years ago. Back in the olden days, when dragons roamed the earth, logos on laptops were always upside down while the lid was up.

But weren't the Mario/Zelda DSiXL/3DS created for 25th anniversary's? Neither series has an anniversary this year. The Zelda 3DS is just a Cosmo black 3DS with some gold paint...nothing too extraordinary/different. The base color was already existing. For Kirby's anniversary, they could just spruce up the misty pink 3DS...
Like I said, I don't expect anything too fancy from Nintendo this year. Just packaging something they've already got, into a bundle. With prior years, Nintendo werent posting huge financial losses. They're trying to keep costs in line, therefore, my logic says to not expect anything fancy this year, as Nintendo are trying to "finally" move into profitability with 3DS.
Changing the color of the plastic shouldn't cost much at all, and making it a good color could persuade even more people to buy a 3DS/XL, myself included. If there is any sign of White or any other solid, I will get it day 1, as would others I would assume.
Not releasing White in America (and Europe) is downright baffling, really, especially seeing as it's a sleek, nice looking color that stands out and doesn't look overly toy-like. I'm also pretty sure that it's going to be the more prominently advertised model in Japan.
Red, White, Blue XL's for the USA! C'mon Nintendo...

So glad I moved my preorder to blue. There were some really 'saturated' in color, pics of the blue unit - a few pages back. It looked unlike all other previews of the blue XL. This confirms that it looks really sharp, nicer in appearance than the red. More sleek, matches the blue front led light, too.
