3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

Got my Mii back to the same design thanks to Mario Tennis Open having my Mii still in its card save. :)

So now I don't feel so pressured to get an XL ASAP, but what I'm curious about is if the transfer limit is tied to the digital account (which will transfer over to any other unit), or its tied to the unit itself, so where ever the account goes or comes into the unit, it still counts down the limit.

Hopefully not, you shouldn't be forced to lose all transferring capabilities of your account. Once your done with a handheld then that shouldn't be a problem.

Also, Yoshi's Island is a bit of an eyesore with the ghosting, what's the verdict on the XL and ghosting?

Who gives a crap about a demo unit that will eventually be sent back to Nintendo and refurbished.

Not much to say - you are limited to 5 transfers of 3DS data to another/different system - that's it.

I think people tend to get bent out of shape, when they paid $249.00 for 3DS. Within six months, Nintendo sharply drops the price by $80.00. As a mea culpa/sorry and thank you, Nintendo offers those loyal adopters 10 NES games and 10 GBA games. Iwata mentioned they have no current plans to publicly offer those GBA games to anyone but the ambassadors.

I can understand an ambassador anger - resentment toward people who didn't get the monetary shaft from Nintendo, yet still end up with the status. It's something they feel they paid for, which in an inadvertent way they did.

Cool that you gamed the system, enjoy the great games. Poor taste to gloat about your actions though.
 
It's alright to steal the game that was being showcased in the front of the store, it's not like anyone was gonna play it!

Seriously, if you went great lengths to steal an status that you weren't eligible for in the first place, I think we can agree there is something wrong there :P
 
Just in case this is a sensitive topic for GAF ( I don't want to get banned!), I sent Stump a PM, we're good buds, so I trust him to give me a friendly chat about this, I don't feel the same way about other mods. :P
 
So, where is the cheapest place to import White XL's?

Not that I'd get one (it's not likely) but it would be nice to know just incase I do.

PlayAsia is the only import site I know of (maybe NCSX or whatever is another?).

EBay is sadly my best answer, but yeah, don't hold your breath. :(
 
Well, you know, I paid $250 for my launch 3DS and then Nintendo gave me the games. You bought a cheaper unit and kinda stole the games that were a prize to us, early adopters.

But it's ok, at least you'll use said games.
 
It's not like anyone is losing money here with Nintendo refusing to sell the ambassador games and all.

The games weren't a gift for buying the 3DS early, it was to appease Nintendo fans from completely revolting against them.

Are you really upset that he doesn't deserve to play those GBA games like us true ambassadors?
Is anyone here upset?

I bought my system launch day.
More power to anyone who is able to salvage a dead license.

Well shit then. If I had the money I would, but I need to buy a $330 system and a $who knows amount to send it in and change the region.

I really don't understand why such a basic yet nice looking color that also features a significant design change (White border on top instead of Black) wouldn't be released in every territory... :(
 
It's not like the ambassador games are really all that great. Except maybe a few of the GBA ones.

I'm more surprised demo units have the status. Though I guess they would of been sitting around for awhile.

Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Metroid 1, Balloon Fight, Super Mario Bros....

those are all top tier must play games and that's only counting the NES games!

I don't think anyone here is pissed that someone stole the status they obtained legitimately (I surely don't since I don't even own a 3DS), but that the poster did so and believes there is nothing wrong with the act of stealing itself. That said, I don't think Hero of Legend is a dirty thief or something, just that I find what he did a bit reprehensible :P

Furthermore, regarding that point that he went great lengths, I was referring to going to a store, find a demo unit that wasn't locked and transfer the status between the systems. the act of transferring is simple, but I think we can agree the above steps are considerably more laborious than it.

In any case, this is not the topic of the thread, and I would prefer to not derail it further. If you would like to continue this discussion, feel free to PM me.

To be honest, I'm a little skeptical that he was able to do it. But he's a long time poster with no reason to lie so... Eh.
 
You people do realize that a crap ton of people got ambassdor status for reduced price when Wal Mart and other retailers dropped the price of the system before the cutoff date to get the games? Why in the world would anyone be upset at Hero of Legend besides the fact that you're mad you didn't come up with the idea first. If you're mad at someone getting the ambassador games who didn't deserve it there are thousands out there.

Yup. I remember that as well.
I made sure to tell everyone thinking about a 3DS at that time to grab one from Walmart to get the free Ambassdor games as well.

I don't really mind, heck, he devised a master plan....it's the effort, work and thought that kinda - well - went into the execution that sits a little funny. But as I said, enjoy the games. It's a sensitive subject to some, understandably so. Remember to enjoy the handheld, buy lots of retail 3rd party games, get an XL eventually and try not to spread the word about scamming demo units...then again, if it sells more systems, which means larger install base, which means more games localized.... ^_^
 
If any Aussies are reading this, do you think its a good idea to pre-order from Jb Hi Fi for the delivery? I'm just not sure because from pass experience they pack it half-assedly(?) + the postage people throwing it around has me worried. Do they put more padding in the more expensive products? I've only ever bought DVDs and games.
 
Well as it turns out I can probably afford to import an LL in a few weeks. Sweet! Just need confirmation that NA repairs = NA system...

Now, do I go straight for White or wait for one of those awesome Japanese special editions... decisions, decisions. :p

I agree. Lifting something that didn't belong to you - even if it was something as trivial as 3DS software - isn't a great character trait. Not something I'd brag about... no matter how clever I thought I was for thinking of it.

That said... gawddammit... I wish it was Aug 19 already! ?!@#
 
I have a question about 3DS LL import prices...

The system is worth about 237ish USD in Japan, yet all sites are selling it for ~$330. Do the import prices usually go down or will it stay at 330 for a while?

You have a lot of questions.
Prices are extra high now because it's a shiny new product launch and they try to get as much as they can from early adopter importers.
Prices will go down a bit once it's released domestically but there will always be a premium.

I'm probably not gonna import until mid-September, so hopefully prices will have gone down by then. $300 would be my sweet spot.

I'm very anti-pirate about games and heck, even only buy used games if they're out of print.
I gave him a pat on the back as I don't see any issue.
It's a license that was going unused and would have been forever lost when it was time to get rid of the demo unit. Now the free games can at least be downloaded and enjoyed by someone.
 
Bit late but just shot in my preorder for a red 3DS XL. Don't have a regular 3DS (was waiting for the first revision and oh my what a great decision that was) so now to figure out which game to pick up along side it.

Already have a charger from my DSi so yay for that
 
damn Ambassador games, so if i am just now going to buy an XL as my first 3DS i have literally no chance of seeing ANY GBA games then? :(

I wanted to play Yoshi's Island SOME day though :(

Yeah, it is technically Sat, but GAME/Gamestation expect the super markets to get confused about hardware launching on a Sat and so are breaking the street date by one day as they expect everyone else will.
