What memory stick brand do you guys recommend I get? I was thinking of upgrading to a 16gig, though I doubt I will ever come close to filling it up

Eh, you can't really say that. People need to chill down about the screen scratching, because there is nothing that proves that the XL still has that problem. I'd be very surprised if it's not something that is caused during the manufacturing process.

I ended up with vertical marks on my unit after it was in my pocket for just a few minutes.

Both screens at brightness 5 with power saver off:

Okay that definitely relieves any worry I had about that last yellowed screen picture. It must have been the angle and/or power saver settings.

Marks as in scratches, or marks as in smudge?

I've tried pressing the top screen down a couple of times, and the screens don't touch even then. It seems that there needs to be a lot of pressure for the screens to touch, so much that I feel that I'd be more worried about breaking the top screen than the screens touching and leaving marks.

My 3DS on the other hand doesn't need any pressure applied at all. The screens touch as soon as it's closed.

NEGATIVES:

- The screen scratching issue still isn't fixed. Seriously, it's fucking retarded.
Really, i tought that issue was fixed. What i dont understad is if the system doesnt even come with a cloth to separate both screens (like the OG 3DS), How is it possible when you unbox the system and open it for the first time the screens arent scratched? and then after a few days the scrach on the screens appeared...

The issue with the DSi XL wasn't that it was a warm screen compared to the regular DSi's vibrant and very cool (temp) screen, it was that there was such a huge disparity between XLs. Some were warm, some were stupidly yellow, but what made it worse was that quite often the top screen was brighter than the bottom.

I put on a screen protector just in case but so far no smudges and I got those on the OG3DS just by closing the lid. Mileage may vary of course.

If you want my opinion, I loathed FreakyForms. I forgot almost everything about it. A total waste of my money. I couldn't care less if the sequel doesn't make it to NA.

Maybe I'm alone in my opinion? I dunno... probably

Might switch force is a lot of fun. And looks fantastic on the large screen - the size really gives it a solidity of image. I'm surprised that I'm holding it around the same distance as a 3DS for optimum image - around 12". That gives me the best 3D sweetspot - closer or further away and I see dark bands at some point on the screen

I wouldn't bother. I never got close to filling my 2GB card on 3DS and I don't think I'll fill the 4GB on 3DSXL (I don't plan to buy any full 3DS retail games from the eshop though)

Just found out that you can only transfer between your old 3DS crap to the XL if you kept the old console, and you can't redownload your Ambassadouche games from the shop, because Nintendo lives in the '70s.
So I sold my 3DS a couple of weeks ago, and I'm screwed.
Love you lots nintendo. <3

Played with one at HMV, really lovely device, optimal size and feels much more solid. But man the 3D is subtle, even maxed out I could hardly tell the difference, unlike og 3ds which was quite strong. View angle is improved though.

It's nice to hear that the XL is more comfortable to play and that the battery life is improved. When I was in the thick of playing through Ocarina 3D, those were the two things that drove me crazy. I literally played through the final battle at the end with hand cramps like you read about and my 3DS tethered to the wall by the AC adapter. It was a one-two punch of suck.

Yep, it's mind-boggling how backwards they are.

I am hoping to find out you are right, so far seems all quiet on that front.

not sure if this is XL related or not but since i never had a 3DS at all:

- Is the 3D effect exhausting on the eyes/do they get tired faster when it's turned all the way up or did you guys not notice a difference here between 2D (slider down) or full 3D or something in the middle?

I always do full 100% 3D and have no issues.
Even for extended periods of time. (Talking about the 3DS, haven't tried the XL but I don't expect a difference in this area.)

For me when I got the 3DS at launch, I had some eye strain for about the first week or so but it seemed like my eyes got used to it after that week because I can play any game on max 3D now with no eye strain at all.

speakers can't be worse than the awful shit the lite were

Yeah I think people are going a bit over board with the speaker hate, they are not as good as the original 3DS but imo they are better than the lite/dsi/vita which sound very tinny, the 3ds speakers actually have some warmth to them which I like.

Got mine today.

Is it not possible to transfer Virtual Console games/Ambassador games/etc to the XL 4GB SD without losing your save data?

It's not a huge deal; I was just wondering if I missed something during the transfer process. The transfer seems to have kept my regular 3DS 2GB memory card as my primary card, so all my games and save data are only intact on that.

If there's no way of copying the games or save data over, then I'll just redownload them with my 4GB card and start over. But it would be nice if I didn't have to do that.

You don't lose the save games, they transfer with the games. Just copy the files to the pc, and then to the 4GB card.

You're misunderstanding; I've completed the transfer, but the only way I can access my games and their saves is by using my old 2GB SD card that was with my regular 3DS. When I use the 4GB SD card that came with the XL, the games aren't there. I'd need to redownload them, and therefore lose my saves.

Unless there's something I'm missing no, you don't. First you'll need an SD Card reader/writer for your PC if you don't already have one, then just copy everything off the 2 GB card to the computer, then back off to the 4 GB card. People recommend using SD Formatter on new cards to improve performance, and you may as well to ensure the 4GB doesn't have any left over from being int he system originally.

Santiako is right, you just need to copy all the files from your 2GB SD Card onto your PC, and then copy them from the PC back onto the 4GB SD Card.

Sweet, I'm literally in the process of doing this now. I didn't know if it was the right thing to do; I just thought I'd give it a shot. Glad to hear it'll work. Thanks!

Ugh. I know it's likely not to work, but if you had your Club Nintendo account linked, try writing Nintendo an e-mail to let them know. You never know. Such a bloody backwards policy.

Do you also enjoy the screeching?

Not that I'm defending Nintendo here (it honestly is bullshit that they still haven't grasped the idea of online profiles/accounts that can be retrieved on any system), but this has been common knowledge since the Wii was released.

My condolences though. You could always try e-mailing Nintendo and asking for help, but I'd be surprised if they did anything. Sorry.
