No but you're generalizing against 1 billion women, based on your own presumptions.

Lol are you serious or joking?

If THIS is something that brings more hostility towards the Muslim world then people need to get their shit together.

It's not worth even acknowledging comments like that, its a waste of time. Suffice to say my Ignore List has grown substantially in the last 48 hours.

I doubt even a thousand women compete in Judo back in the S.A.
I'm not even sure a hundred women are.

Lemme google it.

It probably starts out with thousands, but they are left with very few survivors after all the loose clothing related deaths.

I was exaggerating for comedic effect

Oh wow, so she's gonna be allowed to participate, huh? What time is this match going down on Friday?

Judging by her lack of credentials compared to others, I'm really curious to see how it goes. Not rooting against her, but I have a feeling it's going to be a quick and exciting match to watch. I think it'd be funny if she pulled off upset after upset somehow but in an event like Judo, it really does come down to training and technique more than anything else.

Next time, put more thought into your posts.

Still waiting for someone to point out exactly what is wrong with what I said. Someone else accused me of generalizing. But I didn't say "always" or even "usually." I said "often." I think that entails sufficient leeway. If not, explain.

Next time, put more thought into your criticism. Or at least explain precisely what your problem is.

I'm sorry, but that constitutes as base generalization as well.

I hope she wins.

I hope it's quick and painless for her...the other athlete looks like a monster...literally.

The throws will come quick. But they will end painfully.

I fear she's just going to get brutalized for 5 minutes.

There are world champions sitting at home. And as far as I know, no mercy rule in judo.

She's a blue belt going up against a black belt that has been placing high in international comp for years. She's gonna get rag dolled.

Blue belt? In Judo? I thought blue (and grey) belts were only for kids; when I trained was basically white=> yellow => orange => green =>purple => brown => black.

EDIT: Oh, just checked Wiki. Apparently, the system I posted is only used in Brazil; everywhere else it's white =>yellow=>orange=>blue=>brown=>black.

.

When's her fight?

Judo is over, Colombia my country got bronze! go Colombia!

She went by completely unnoticed, probably didn't pass the early elimination rounds.

EDIT:

Wait I think she is another weight category, the one I mentioned was 70Kg, maybe she is in for a heavier category that goes tomorrow, sorry for the confusion!

She is up in about 7 minutes

With her hijab?

It wasn't even a sports hijab, it looked like, uhm...a skully/doo-rag thing I've seen in American sports.

And, she got thrown once and the match was over. So quick. I think she gave up?

I have no idea, there was literally one throw.

*edit*

OK, she got thrown and then submitted.

She's a horrible athlete.

I was hoping she'd do well, but I'm glad she got the opportunity to feature regardless.

Seeing what she wore, it makes sense as to how the officials and she came to a compromise; there is nothing questionable about her attire there.

What she ended up wearing is pretty much what I would have suggested. I don't see the point in having arguments or controversy when there are better alternatives such as these. Safety is important, so follow rules or don't compete.

Good that they came to a compromise. Too bad that she lost though ;p

That was an Ippon point. Just one if those is all you need to win a Judo match. She didn't submit, afaik.

Despite the story and the historical ness of it, the match was hilarious. She looked like a giant baby waving her arms around shouts "don't touch me!" she was smiling the whole time which made it even more surreal.

Good for her for giving it a shot though. That alone is pretty brave.

Oh and her gi is like 3 sizes too big. Lol

I don't think it's really fair to be sensationalistic if you don't understand how Judo works...
She wasn't likely to get more injured than your standard athlete and she wasn't likely to get tortured for five minutes. A great judoka vs. a terrible judoka (assuming same weight class) usually means fast ippon.

Anyway, I think Saudi Arabia put her in a position to fail. It's possible that they just don't have good female athletes because of social norms there, but it's also entirely convenient that they don't think women should be in sports and her getting demolished kinda proves their point.

What you say is completely inaccurate. Gyms and exercise facilities are widely available for women to use in all the major cities in Saudi Arabia.

Our athletic development is just not a focus for the country right now, which is unfortunate.

Sorry, just going by posts on here that claim that athletics is frowned upon for women in Saudi Arabia.
