No problem man, your collection is magnificent. I really love the "thrill of the hunt" with classic video games. I love dropping by thrift shops, mom n' pop used DVD places, garage sales, etc looking for those hidden treasures. I would have to image that you get the same thrill and satisfaction from that.

Edit:

If you have an IKEA nearby, they are a godsend for cheap, yet good looking, shelves.

Where did you get these frames? I just purchased a few posters and I am looking for some good ones.

I framed those years ago, but I want to say that they were cheap frames at Hobby Lobby. Unfortunately, those posters were a really weird size, so I had to shave off like a millimeter from the bottom.

I bought them at the "Square-Enix Character Goods", or some such shit, it Japan. I felt really bad about cutting them to get into a frame, but since I would never-ever sell them, I really didn't care.

I think i pulled something in anger when I googled the site, found a US online store, got really happy, found FF12, got even more happy, and then only saw some jewelery and a $1000 judge helmet. I think i have to see a doctor.

Ha, ha, ha... That sounds about right. I visited the Squeenix store in Japan back in 2006. It was NOT cheap. I bought those posters, as well as some Kingdom Hearts and Mana posters. I also spent about $500 in jewelry. I picked up an FFVIII lion heart ring, and a Tidus ring, both in silver.

It blows because I don't see myself going to japan in the forseeable future, I simply lost my interest to go there. And I only want the posters, though i'll be fair, the jewelery is really nice and if i had the disposable monies i'd rice out on it easily.

But I just want the posters. Why are posters always so hard to get officially? I guess I have to just get them printed.

Probably your best bet is to get them printed. I was lucky in that my favorite FF is XII, and I went there at the right time. Even back in '06, the Nomura influence was suffocating.

FYI: My wife is upset that no one noticed that she matched the curtains to the MVS machine. I giver her a "pass for life" on that, but I'm not convinced about her design choices.

I bought those 8-Bit Zelda statues at a store in Japan. They're not Legos, but actually little pegs that you put in a board. The instructions come with all sorts of patterns for classic Mario and Zelda sprites.

aw, damn. thinking about a trip next year, im gonna have to check back & see exactly where ya'll are getting these things, cant all be akibahara.

As for the Sega sign... my sister worked at a Funcoland in the late 90s, early 00s. During their transition to becoming a Gamestop, I took the Sega sign off the wall. I have a ton of Dreamcast swag that would blow your mind, but unfortunately it's stored away at the moment.

oh man, if you ever get it all unboxed, please post pics! you're right, i love that stuff.

Chittagong and fellow interior design enthusiasts, I've finally gotten to the point where my debts are all paid up and I'm thinking about going into debt again to buy some nice furniture, and need your help fulfilling that :)

I need the following:

- An office chair
- A replacement for my couch, but increase seating up to 5+ people (so multiple pieces)

I was personally thinking of getting the following:

Aeron Chair $800ish
design_story_aeron_work_8.jpg

Good Quality Knock off Barcelona Chair x2 $1200

Then I just need something very comfy as the barcelona chairs aren't extremely comfy. What would you recommend? Can you provide estimated costs as I know some of these can get up to 5 grand each and need to budget.

You should really try out Office Chairs in a store. I'm thinking about getting a Steelcase Leap myself.

I've added a Sega CD gen 1 unit, a friend of mine is mailing me a R.O.B. he found at his local goodwill and another friend said he has a Jaguar he will send me. We have a classic gaming store in our local mall so I get stuff I can't find normally. Still need to rebuy Mario Kart 64.

Three things:

1) The Embody chair is often considered superior to the Aeron for computer use. It might be worth looking into.

2) Don't spend money, let alone that much money, on knock-offs.

3) Don't go into debt to buy small things like furniture. That is such an incredibly foolish thing to do.

Leap chairs are great. Got a prev gen on eBay for like 350 several years back, best money I spent aside from decent audiophile speakers. Wish office chairs at work was this decent.

I hope to someday have collections like some who post ! Only 19 atm so plenty of time yet ! quick question is there a specific place where any UK Gaffers get gaming memorabilia from ?

Nah don't listen to him. Good quality ones are almost indistinguishable from the real thing at a fraction of the price. I'm a fan.

Don't go into debt for stuff that depreciates in value.

I like the rule of getting a great piece once a year. Go slow, Tabris. Debt is never a good thing, especially consumer debt.

Yo Tab...

for the office chair, I recommend either an Herman Miller Embody or a Steelcase Leap.

They both operate on pretty much the same principles - dynamic, easily readjustable ergonomic chairs that provide support and adjustments in all the major areas that should be supported in a chair.

The Embody has better quality controls for the most part, and also feels (at least chair wise, not the arms) more solid and better constructed - the lumbar adjustment is particularly more noticeable/better with the embody (it comes forward as you adjust, where as the Leap has a lumbar support that you raise or lower). But it lacks a head rest option, and the arms aren't as adjustable as the Leap (you can adjust the arms on the leap so that they move forward and backward - which is a good boon when you're trying to get yourself as close to the desk, and still have arm support).

If you're willing to go all out with the computer desk setup, I'd recommend a standing desk - they're a few around; Steelcase Airtouch might be a good starting point. And coupling that with a Leap Stool (same as leap chair, but with a raised stool and foot rest base). I've done a bit of research into ergonomics, comfort, healthfulness and all that - and that combination is pretty much the optimal one; giving you options, support, and comfort - with the stool, you don't need to raise/lower the desk, so sitting and standing is as easy as getting into and out of a chair. You want to be able to stand, because it just provides you with good back and thigh relief throughout the day - but you don't want to stand all day long, because your feet and legs get hella sore as well.

Over time, this soreness translates as damage. But if you're not spending 4-8+ hours a day using that setup, you'll be ok with a normal setup.

As for the Barcelona chairs... replicas versus not replicas...

For one thing, they're gorgeous chairs, they'll stay in style forever - they're era icons. Which also means you can keep them as long as they hold up. Meaning you don't have to sell them.

If that's ok with you, then go for the high quality replicas. You'll spend less on them - the money you wouldn't recoup anyway because you won't be selling them.

But if you do want the option of selling, look around for genuine barcelonas - maybe even second hand. Make sure you get and retain the proof of genuineness of course.

The other thing is... they're like you say, not comfortable chairs. I wouldn't use these as a main seater. But they're very nice as a decorative piece that is also functional as an occasional seater.

For the lounge, if you want to round out the set with another designer piece, the le corbusier sofa would be a decent modernist compliment to the barcelona. Alternatively, you can go for a Florence 3 seater sofa - the details match up with the Barcelona quite well (buttoned cushion padding), while still retaining the elements of a traditional comfy lounge (i.e. thick padding + arm rests).

I was kidding about the debt thing (well not paying off but going back into). I would buy a piece once a month or if it was debt, it would be some 12 month no interest deal to pay off well before.

I'm not a huge fan of the design of the 2 you recommended. Nice thing about Aeron is it's pretty cheap authentic and I know it lasts quite a while as we use them at work. The only other chair I would be tempted to use is:

heather-john-eames-chair.jpg

It's such an amazing design, I would just be concerned with the comfortability and the durability.

One option for the couch I was thinking would be to get those 2 barcelona chairs, and a knock off barcelona couch, and then an authentic david eames lounge chair ($4k+) for comfort:

The Aeron is a fine choice, just saying that for overall comfort, a lot of people tend to prefer the Embody. But yeah, you can't go wrong either way. I'd take the Aeron over the other option you just posted -- definitely a lot more comfortable.

Oh my god, I am never moving again. My set up is coming along nicely though should look way nicer then what I had at my old place when I'm finished.

Yeah, my work has all 3 furniture pieces (Aeron, Barcelona and Eames Lounge) so I've sit in them plenty.

The aeron isn't bad, it can adjust as many parameters as either Embody or Leap... but it's quite static - not designed to be adjusted on a moment to moment notice.

Also, not entirely sure if the back follows you like the Embody or Leap (which is one of their main draw cards).

Newer task chairs from Herman Miller, Steelcase and Humanscale tend to follow the principle of dynamic adjustability, although to lesser degrees than their flagship task chairs (Embody, Leap and Freedom, respectively).

Other than the fact that the Aeron is iconic - it's kind of an ugly chair - that also happened to redefine the trend of what a good comfortable chair could or should be (i.e. not necessarily thick padded high back executive chairs that were popular in previous eras).

While not as famous, I think the Embody is in its own way, even more iconic looking, with an almost alien sculptural quality that is bound to get the attention of anyone looking at it.

Gotta think outside the box! Go with a sofa from Innovation USA,

Nice selection of consoles, but seeing clutter like this makes my eyes bleed. And is that a straight razor next to the tv?

That isn't clutter! Those are the controllers for each system I pulled out for the picture (they are put away now). And no, that is a letter opener since my computer desk sits across from it so I put it here and it just so happened to make the picture.

Here is my wife playing SMB3 today:
