WTF I just noticed the yellow tint, it's awful like turning on power saving mode

The thing is tho, it's only in a tint when you have 3d off, otherwise there's no tint whatsoever

What the hell?

Edit, jeez just did a search and problem is widespread. Blamed on poor manufacturing. Seriously thinking of getting my money back now and trading this in... And it was almost perfect too :/ hope the next batches fix this problem

I'm not getting a Vita until next year when I have money and can probably get a White one for cheaper

I have much more to get for 3DS this holiday so I'm just getting the XL instead.

if i already bought an original 3ds, got my ambassador certificate and linked it to my club nintendo account, but gave it away - can i still download my ambassador games, without doing a transfer from my old 3ds to a new 3ds XL?

No. You'll need both systems present. A transfer will clone the current system (every little detail of play coins, to street passes, to activity logs and saved things) over to the target system and completely wipe the system that was used for transfer.

Yellow (warmer temp) screens are not a defect according to Nintendo. That's by choice. If you value the whiteness of white, though, you'll hate Nintendo's choice. They did it with the DSi XL as well, which when compared to the DSi was night and day different in regards to screen temp. For me games pop far more on the DSi than on the DSi XL's yellow/warm screens. Apple recently made a similar decision with iPad 3, and I hate that screen as well. I just want white to look white, not brownish.

That's the thing, I know with my DS XL it's the same thing but that's in both screens. With my 3DS XL it's only on the top screen while 3d is off. That's more distracting because you have two different tones against eachother. Web browsing is a nightmare

Also the 3D off only thing I seem to be the only one with? I mailed Nintendo about it, they can't give me the policy response

My Blue DSi XL does not have the yellow tint. Both screens are perfectly white.

OTOH, I just noticed that my launch Black DSLite's touch screen actually has a yellow tint to it. All these years and I never really noticed it until this thread.

I'm really glad that I wasn't able to pre-order through Amazon now. All this yellow tint talk has convinced me to pick up my system at Best Buy and open it right there in the store to check the screens before I leave.

Check them all while you're there. They'll be the same.

It isn't a 'problem' or 'poor manufacturing' it's by choice.

I do not think this was a choice. It's not like every unit has warm color, some have cold. Either way it was intended, that's not a choice, that's inconsistency.

What bothers me about this whole thing is that the screen don't match in temperature. I can't really imagine Nintendo deciding that they need to warm only the top screen, so that's another reason I don't think they chose to do this.

Because of this thread, I'm holding off buying a White LL.

More positively spun, because of this thread, I've rekindled my relationship with Aqua Blue.

If people are looking to build a list then I have a Blue XL (UK), my screen is scratch free and I definitely have a "warmer" top screen

Is the 3DS XL confirmed to not have the screen smudging/scratching issue? Constantly wiping off my Aqua Blue's 3DS screen everytime I open it is annoying.

I haven't gotten a straight answer to be honest. Some people say they got dot-like smudges or scratches, and others say they don't. With something between the screens of my Aqua Blue, I'm going to restart my habit of wiping it down every weekend. Still looks good as new with a weekly cleaning.

again, i thought it was established that the dots had to do with something along the lines of shipping/production? has anyone said they didn't see them upon first glance, but got them later?

Just picked my 3DSXL what a massive improvement over the first generation! When will I learn not to buy the first model of a Nintendo handheld console.

After going back and reading the last six or seven pages, I found one guy that clearly states he got scratches that weren't there when he bought it.

No pics, so it's hard to trust, and the majority of people don't mention scratches (unlike with the 3DS), so perhaps at the very least the problem is very minimal?

No scratches here either. I don't know how the system could get scratched when closed, because it is designed to not allow that to happen. Maybe if you sat on it or something.

I fucken knew this yellow tint would be A factor again. I had it happen to me with the original where the bottome was white and top was piss yellow. If Nintendo says its normal they are full of it. Both screens should match. Some games switch back and forth and two tone is distracting. I hate white backgrounds with yellow tint it sucks.

Do you have power saver mode on or did you try adjusting different brightness/3D settings?

Also, can you take a picture so that we can see how bad it is?

Put my preorder in with Newegg for blue with NSMB 2 and I'm going to order the blue
purse
case from Amazon. Can't wait!

Guys I still rock my JAP import DS Lite and I love it!!! What I like the most about it is how small it is and in my opinion portable.

I held of on 3DS as I hoped for a dual stick version but no luck there as it seems. There are also a lot of 3DS games I would like to play now so I'm looking to buy one.

Now the question is do I go with 3DS or this new XL? I understand XL fixed a lot of problems original had and I appreciate that but damn that thing is huge. Does size matter (no pun intended) in this case? Do you prefer smaller portable systems (GBA Micro <3 ) or this behemots ?

I don't mind bigger portable systems, as I play games at home.

It's personal choice. I love big and small (my Micro = <3). Just average I have the problem with. I finally get my white LL tomorrow so that and the Micro will be my handhelds of choice.

My red XL arrived at work today. I finished the transfer a little while ago and ran some games.
One of those were Zen Pinball. Hell yeah the table is viewable now.
Mario 3d Land looks great
MSF too.

Will try more before sleep tonight :)

Have we heard anything about the new CPP XL attachment? Will it offer a built in battery pack or we going to have to use shitty triple A with a medievil case that needs a coin to open?

The regular CPP eats through battery even when its not being used, fucking annoying as shit.

Envy. Really hope you enjoy it. :)

Any impressions on both screens' temp? Warm/Cool? Any visible yellow hue?

Got mine today.

Am I the only one finding that the 3d effect is a downgrade ?

Every thing else is an upgrade but the IQ in 3d is way less attractive than before. You can't play with arms streched in a comfortable position and even close to the screen I lose the sweespot every time I press some buttons, it's very frustrating. Mutant Muddz looked much cooler on the old 3ds.

What surprises me the most is the sound quality with headphones. It's so much better than before. It is the most striking thing about the XL for me.

Does the cradle come without a charger in the US? Cos I think I'll be importing if so, or I'll be drowning in fucking chargers!

I can't imagine they would include a cradle but not an AC adapter to plug it into.

But this is Reggie we are dealing with. hehe

There is no cradle included in the NA version and I don't think anything has been said about it coming over. I hope it's there at launch...
