The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Hello, wondering if there's a mod that improves performance of the game a bit? Some sort of optimization mod. Not sure if that is doable through a mod or if there is anything to improve at this point but thought I'd ask since I'm going back for Dawnguard :P

A bit late but you could:

-tweak the ini to increase performance
-use "texture optimizer Ordenador" (if your using custom texture packs or want to lower all textures to 1024 (/2048) max)
-use This if you have crashes / slowdowns after long sessions (might also increase fps) because of low ram

I started using SkyRe (+Deadly Dragons) this Friday for a new character and it is awesome!

Quiete happy with my performance/graphics/stability while all my mods are running as well, some ctd every 10h or so but nothing gamebreaking imo.
Some screens (that I also posted in the High-Rez Screenshots thread):

Nah, SkyRe revamps the combat/gameplay etc.

For improved graphics I use a compiliation of other mods (projekt reality/Texture Pack Combinder with SMIM, lush trees,.../a cutom ENB/... ).

That exact shot was also taken in the "Breezhome Basement" mod which gives Breezhome what it was lacking (manequins and a enchantment table), which I can absolutely recommend.

now trying some dawnguard :)

hope its good

but yeah the mods for this game are pretty good

i wish more devs give you access to their games like this :)

Oh I see. I'd like to see what custom ENB you're using is. I like it a lot more than most of the other ones I've seen.

Sure, there you go:

custom ENB and my ini´s
(I hope I didnt forget any files)
(data folder might not be needed but some extended functions of the "enhanced shaders fx" enb, which is the origin of this enb, might use them so I recommend integrating it)

To get the same look that I have "Project Reality" (dont select darker dungeons) and "Further Dark Dungeons for ENB Ice" (imo better than what comes with CoT) is necessary.

I would also recommend the new "texture pack combiner".

There should be no ghosting or green-underwater bug in this enb.
Sadly sometimes water will be very transparent and night vision still doesnt work, like it is with all enb´s right now.

I assume that's everything working with Dawnguard too? The Dawnguard update seemed to break most of my mods.

Would you mind posting everything you have, or just showing me a post where you said it earlier :). Your game really looks amazing, would love to start a new character soon myself, so looking to get some new mods going.

Can anyone recommend a quickstart mod that doesn't screw with the game? I'm using Dime's Quickstart for this run through but I've been finding a bunch of quests that are subtly broken and need to be manually fixed with console commands (for one of the dungeons I couldn't complete it at all and had to backtrack.)

Has anyone tried Arthmoor's Alternate Start?

Maybe I should've just gone through the stupid intro but I just couldn't face it yet another time :-(

Yes it works flawlessly.

I actually have not updated to 1.7 because I fear that it will break my now very stable game and am not interested in purchasing Dawnguard atm.
My guess is that the update would break most of my mods, the graphic mods should be fine tho (only CoT and Water might cause some issues).

You can already find my custom enb, inis and some recommendations a few posts above,
if you're interested I could make a full list of my mods when I get back home from work, I cant guarantee that they will work with dawnguard tho.

For a shorter intro I as well can recommend "Arthmoor's Alternate Start" works flawless with most other mods and gives the opportunity for the "vanilla" opening.

Alternatively, you can also run through the intro fairly quickly. Alduin's breath doesn't actually hurt you during the tutorial, and even if you kite all of the enemies through the keep, they don't seem to follow you outside the cave.

I still haven't seen a profile that adds all the ENB effects without messing with the game's vanilla color palette.

That is because it is impossible...
Skyrims cyan tint and desaturated nights defy logic, ambient occlusion and indirect light will always destroy it.

I think that my "complete setup" keeps most of the "feeling" that the vanilla graphics give while enhancing on almost all aspects (sunrays, dof, indirect light, textures, etc.,) no cyan tint tho.

What I don't understand is why people care for the cyan THAT much, sure it adds to the art style but so does enb (if configured correctly)'.

Imo the trick is not to overdo it.

edit:
thats what I get for not refteshing for so long.

Id like to check this out, I dont believe that the cyan tint and desaturation will stay the same with indirect light and slow SSAO if it does than I have been proven wrong.

Sadly when running CoT it will look way different again.
My luck that I quite like my preset.

Enhanced Vanilla ENB does the "impossible" =)
skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/17326

Go to any place in the game, toggle the ENB on and off with Shift+F12, and the difference is so negligible you can hardly notice.

The more and more I used my own ENB configs, Sharpshooters, Superbs, I grew to hate them. Now I just use this ENB purely because it retains 99.9% of skyrim's original lighting.

I will surely check this out when Im finished with my current character or start having ctd´s again.
(Dont want to uninstall CoT etc. atm in fear of messing something up again)

I dont believe a word bofore I see some examples of working SSIL that doesnt mess with the lighting with my own eyes :D
Even games like "Witcher 2" which have SSIL integrated have a completely different light when enabling it.
Which makes sense, its sole purpose is to change lighting.

(the example pictures from nexus dont really show any SSIL so Im still not convinced =D, appears to be awesome for those that simply want the dof, shadows and sunray effects without changing anything else tho, which is very nice by itself)

yeah, dunno about SSIL - it completely wrecks my FPS. edit: so I haven't tried it much

How is CoT? I remember seeing it as a mod, and passing it off because at it's initial release it wasn't very descriptive. Now I'm kicking myself pretty hard, because I started a mod review of it, then abandoned it. Now it's exploded in popularity and everyone seems to have it.

such is the life of insane0hflex....lesson learned though =)

CoT simply makes the weather look awesome, it adds a lot of new "in between" weather conditions / transitions like light snowfall etc. it also enhances the sky with new cloud constelations etc.
The sun- rises and sets are a thing of beauty.

It really shines when you have your enb set up for it, making sunrays / the sun in generall that much more appealing and adds nice "cold" light (which completely messed up my enb at first but looks really nice now after some finetuning).

There was a "Mod Sanctuary" episode about it if I remember correctly but of course Gopher does what he does best he talks 5min in his soothing brithish accent to say what others could have said in a single sentence.
(I love his voice, yours is nice too of course...)

CoT doesnt work with quite a few mods tho.
(for example when running Sounds of Skyrim and CoT the game wont crash, but you will only see a fraction of what CoT has to offer and get some weird glitches)

Edit:
I love "Raptor Talon Argonians", it combines two Argonian mods, a mod that gives Argonians raptor like claws and a retexture mod that gives them more scales and is high rez.

Hey peeps I've got macbook pro with these specs, playin through bootcamp:
2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
8GB 1600MHz memory
750GB 5400-rpm hard drive1
Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory

Is it good enough to install the high res texture packs, as in the high res versions of the high res texture packs? what about ENB as well? I'd be happy with 30 fps as well.
I'm looking at the texture pack combiner:
Skyrim HD - 2K Textures by NebuLa
Serious HD Retexture Skyrim by Z4G4
Skyrim Realistic Overhaul by Starac

AOF Farmhouses by AnOldFriend.
HD Misc by Calav3ra.
High Quality Food and Ingredients by Iraito.
Hybrids HD Plants and Herbs Retexture by Gabriel "Mystikhybrid" Gullbergh.
Lush Grass by OpticShooter
Lush Trees by OpticShooter
Project Parallax by Osmodius
Ruins Clutter Improvement HD by Raiserfx
Skyrim Flora Overhaul by Vurt
Static Mesh Improvement Mod (SMIM) by Brumbek
Trees HD Skyrim Variation by Namotep
Visible Windows by Isoku.

Got a dumb question hoping someone is kind enough to answer. Am I suppose to run the Nexus Mod Manager and the Mod Organizer at the same time?

The texture pack combiner is very Vram heavy, you might or might not get a very apparent framerate loss after installing it.

I would recommend installing it via the NMM so that you can easily uninstall it should your mac not be able to handle it.

Also use "this" with max. settings and do not allow textures over the size of 2048.
There should be almost no visible difference but quite a improvement in fps if VRam is the Problem.

I doubt that your card can handle those textures and a ENB but of coures you could just try it since enbs are very easy to (un)install.

(dont use project parallax when youre not using a enb)

The NMM is a Mod Organizer so I dont think so =)

I figured, but I had to ask to be sure. Is one preferable over the other?

Are we talking about the organizer that comes with the game launcher, wyre bash or something else?

In the end it comes down to personal taste use the organizer that you find to be the most user friendly.

I generally use NMM since I install most of my mods with it and can just sort them right afterwards without having to change to another program.

(I dont use the game launcher since that thing messes with my custom ini´s)

I meant between NMM and and Mod Organizer in the OP. I'm not familiar with anything else. I guess I'll go with the NMM for now. Thanks again.

One more question, is it possible to install ENB with NMM?

Nope, just drag and drop in the main Skyrim folder. Sometimes there are certain ENBs that has a shaders folder or esp/RL patcher that goes in the Data, but usually they are explained in the Profile description on Nexus or a Readme packed in the file.

Does anyone have any experience with the Monster Mod? I'd like to add some diversity to the creatures but this mod adds so many and I'm afraid that the quality will vary massively between creatures. I'd rather just hand pick the creatures I want but I'm not seeing any mention of that.

I use Monster Mod.

There are 3 different versions atm, one that includes all monsters featured in the mod (some strange and very lore/immersion breaking ones).
One that gets rid of most of the lore unfriendly ones and renames other so that they fit into the Elder Scrolls lore. (some do seem out of place in skyrim even though they completely fit into the actual elder scrolls lore)
And one version that is extremely lore friendly and adds almost no new monsters and instead gives existing ones more variety (female giants, puppy wolves, etc.)

For a normal play through I can recommend one of the later two, I personally use the second one since I can live with some Monsters being kinda irky for all the great variety it gives.
(I'm also using SkyTest which works rally nice with MM for the most part, sometimes some of the new Monsters will rush me but not attack I don't know if this is caused by skyTest or if it is a general MM bug)

The quality is generally very high but of course there are some exceptions like for example "child" versions of the monsters having the same models but smaller (especially strange for dogs... skyrims dogs look very old and making them smaller doesn't help that at all) etc.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into the second option. The lack of creature diversity is one of my biggest complaints about Skyrim.

Oh thanks =) Gopher is actually my inspiration for starting Skyrim Mod videos, back when he did FNV mod videos. Unfortunately, with university and work I was late to show up to the mod-video scene, but I've been playing catch-up. I wish I got started sooner though...I kinda arrived late to the scene, so my channel isn't really well known at all.

For whoever is interested, I made another Skyrim Mod Spotlight last night about Crossbows Revamped, which adds 2 new crossbows to the leveled list, and merchants, soldiers, + bandits have crossbows in their inventory, and some other cool features too. The other mod I featured was Left Hand Rings, which adds left-handed rings in the game which is pretty neat.

Alright, do any of you guys actually mod, or know someone who does? I want to create simple dialogue mods to flesh out some of the companions, and to provide more back-story for NPCs. I can make a character say a line of dialogue but I still run into problems now and then with anything more complex.

The modding community seems scattered across all four corners of the earth, and my forays into the Nexus forums were less than helpful.

Can someone point me in the direction of a community that would be friendly to someone of my skillset (i.e. someone who knows the rock-bottom basics)?

I take it you've already scoured the Bethesda Skyrim mod forums? That's the home of modders, basically.

So after 6 month hiatus I am ready to jump back in with a new character. I only played Vanilla, 130hours. This is what I want to roll with:

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/21602/ Lunari Race as my PC, with matching bodies mod (I assume mod requires one of them them)

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10906 The Dance of Death mode, for more kill variations

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19733 Immersive Armours for more role playing

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/17802 Project Reality ~ Weather for better weather and more immersion

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3863 SkyUI I only played with X360 pad due to issues with KB+M in Vanilla release, time to play it properly!

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9286 SkyRe - Skyrim Redone, overhaul of some systems in Skyrim

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4929 A Quality World Map

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/607 Skyrim HD 2K Textures for better eye porn

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13268 WATER - Water And Terrain Enhancement Redux for more eye porn

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10168 ApachiiSkyHair for more hair options

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2812 Better Females because everyone loves better females

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/711 Possibly a duplicate with WATER?

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3829 Deadly Dragons

Can any modding expert tell me if I can run all of them at once? I am worried with how SkyRe will overwrite game mechanics, and how the official HD pack will go with 2K Textures. Any thoughts? Or I can just run Naito's setup, wonder how many FPS I will get ;-)

Those two will probably conflict if you want to use the new Race attributes and abbilitys that come with SkyRe.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/607 Skyrim HD 2K Textures for better eye porn

Works with the hd-texture pack by bathesda without a problem, just be sure to get the hd-texture fix for bathesdas pack anyways since it destroys some textures.
The 2k textures will change the "feel" of some areas.
If your pc can handle it I would recomend the "texture combinder".

Yes, do not use them together.

Works well with SkyRe, just be sure to not max out dragons when your playing on Master since SkyRe´s rebalancing makes fights tougher by default.

Works with SkyRe but be sure to install the compatibility patch.

Thanks a lot for comments! What do you mean by "max out dragons"?

Following your advice I will probably cut out the Lunari race, with ENB and improved bodies I should be able to make great-looking females with all assets I have already.

Deadly Dragons gives you the opportunity to adjust how strong dragons are in game at a shrine in Dragonsreach.

When you max them out some of them become very very hard to kill even in vanilla with most perks at 100.

In SkyRe they become (imo) unbeatable.

You can also adjust how often "Events" will happen, as of now those events only consist of 2-3 Dragons randomly spawning on you and killing everything since they need about 1-2 melees and maybe 3-4 dragonsbreaths to kill your average npc while spawning ice shards, undead, dragon priests, etc.

I recommend turning that option to 0 to avoid having ghost towns because a some dragons decided to spawn on you while you're in a city (vanilla dragon spawns will not be influenced).

It baffles me why people like that and even worse why bethesda thought it would be a good idea to implement something similar (vampire attacks) in Dawnguard.

Oh, some of those mods might not jet be compatible with Dawnguard, check the comments on nexus to see if this is the case.
(I do not own Dawnguard nor have I updated to 1.7)

The Temptress race mod is designed not to interfere with other mods. They are also hot.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18717/

This mod actually uses it's own meshes and so it won't conflict with other mods that replace female bodies. You can force it to use CBBE though, with minor clipping of the special Temptress armor set it comes with.

This might not interfere with other "visual" mods because of meshes but it will probably interfere with SkyRe because it changes the race selection.

Even little mods like improved freckles mess with SkyRe´s Race changes.

Of course one would have to try it to be certain, but I think it is highly possible that it wont work.

If SkyRe is that pervasive and invasive and exlusive for other mods, it's easier to just not use SkyRe. There are plenty of other mods which rebalance the game, such as ACE. I actually use a combination of ACE (Athyra's Comprehensive Enhancements) and Complete Crafting Overhaul + Smithing Perks Overhaul. It works great with all the other custom stuff you can add like races, armors, weapons, etc. If you're not going to be one of the default races anyways, the race modifications in SkyRe will do you no good.

I still cannot believe there isn't a competent de-leveling system made for this game yet. It's had almost a year now.

It's an insane amount of work, especially since leveled quests are integrated into faction storylines. You'd have to rework a ton of stuff. Probably not worth it even for those inclined to do it.

Will Dimonized UNP and CBBE interfere with SkyRe as well?

No, stuff that just changes visual stuff (+skeletons) normally does not interfere with SkyRe, even stuff like immersive Armor does not "interfere" with SkyRe, all the compatibility patch does is change things like lvld-list, armor ratings, sell value etc. so that it completely fits into the new systems.

When a mod changes things like Races, Standing Stones or Combat it will most probably interfere with SkyRe.

Yeah... no.
No other mod does what SkyRe does, not at that scale.
Of course there are going to be a lot of compability issues when you change as much as SkyRe does but because it doesnt simply change one mechanic but all of them you get a very well balanced and thought trugh experience.

What does SkyRe change?
Combat (Magic, Close Range Combat, Assasin Style Combat, Ranged (Bows) )
Races
Magic
Standing Stones
Lvled-List
Enemy behaviour
Difficulty (balance, no lvl-scaling, no god mode after lvl 30)
Perk-Trees (adds a couple new ones gets rid of some overhaules all of them)
...

Imo a combination of ACE and Crafting Overhaul doesnt even compare...

You can still add every armor mod etc. that there is, thing is the creator of SkyRe want a "complete" experience and therefore releases patches for the most common and asked for mods that truly make them feel like a part of "his" Skyrim experience.

If you just want to add random stuff and don't care for immersion you can do just that, but I certainly don't want that for my actual playthroughs and many more think so as well.

SkyRe is split in multiple categories, one of them is the Races part, if you don't want it simply don't select it when installing SkyRe...

Then you can go ahead and add whatever Race mod you want without any issues.
I would not recommend it since his changes to the Races actually make all of them a viable choice with great abilities etc. (something at which vanilla Skyrim failed horribly, who would choose imperial if not for the aesthetics or roll play value?)

But you are right, if you want to play a race from a different mod anyway then you could just ignore the SkyRe ones, I kinda didn't even think of that possibility because I don't like/use those lore breaking races =D

Edit:
I checked for ACE since I thought it made many changes very similar to SkyRe and I was right, for example it changes ranged combat so that there are multiple kinds of bows.
Doesn't that mean it has the same compatibility issues that SkyRe has with new weapons?

And sorry if I sound agressive or something I dont mean it that way (I noticed I might do after reading what I wrote) in the end it comes down to what you prefere.

On another note I tried "Crimson Tide" because insan0hflex recommended it once more in one of his latest videos and I have to admit that I did it severe injustise.
It is a lot better then enhanced blood textures.
Thanks fot the great recomendation.

Anyone elses thoughts on ASIS?

I tried it, but didn't like the increased spawns too much...

Next playthrough after Dawnguard, I plan to use SkyRE. It'd be nice to actually play skyrim for once instead of doing mod videos all the time. =)

Edit: I thought I posted my other the Crossbows revamped thing in the Skyrim OT - sorry!

Okay, annoying issue. Trying to install Interesting NPCs but the file comes as a 7z file so Nexus MM can't recognize it, and 7-Zip constantly tells me that it can't open the file as an archive whenever I try to extract it. Anyone know why this is?

And that's after just giving up at figuring out why a bunch of mods I'm trying to download from the Nexus site "do not exist" when using the "download with manager" link

I always download manually from Nexus into a folder then install using the NMM. Rarely have a problem and that's with 7z files etc. Not used Interesting NPC's though. Maybe it's an issue with that mod?

Recently got Blood Witch Armour and it looks really good. Just need a hood to match and maybe a matching scabbard for swords and greatswords.
Also got a new race, Lunari. It seems to use it's own texture for the body as it's not the same as the one I use for females in the game. Interesting.
