PROMETHEUS UNMARKED SPOILER THREAD!

Looking forward to a 3 hour cut. That explains some of the strange scenes that came out of no where, and other scenes that ignored the prior ones.

I need my 3D Blu-ray now. Even though I have no plans to watch it in theaters again, I'm kind of sad that all the theaters in my area will stop showing it tomorrow night. I was never so excited for a movie, and I ended up liking it even in recognition of its many flaws.

But damn do I need those deleted scenes and that original Jon Spaihts script like I need oxygen. An extended cut would be very welcomed.

wut

I thought we weren't getting any extended version.

The special features that people recently pulled from the French amazon site were apparently out of date and only partially accurate. So we don't really know whether there's an extended edition or not. The movie's theatrical run isn't finished, and it's yet to open in half a dozen European countries and also Japan.

We'll only know closer to the blu-ray's release when there will be an official description of all the features. But extended cut or no, seems we'll at least get a release that's packed with features.

Really?! Do you have a source on that? That feature list seemed so full. I'm excited just thinking that we could possibly get more!

Well Charles de Lauzirika is making the set, so an awesome blu-ray package is to be expected. He made the Blade Runner Final Cut 5 disc set, the Kingdom of Heaven 4 disc set, Alien Anthology blu ray set, etc.

To answer your question though, from the digital bits:
7/6/12

In news today, we've heard from our industry sources that yesterday's list of features from Fox's Prometheus Blu-ray (street date TBA) is only partially accurate. The list came from unofficial/early marketing materials seen by Amazon's French online store, and of course was loosely translated into English. So while the general parameters are probably loosely accurate, it's by no means final or official. We're still waiting to see if Fox is going to be ready to officially announce the title's features and street date for next week's Comic-Con, but in any case we would expect more official and accurate details soon. So just consider the list for what it is and salt accordingly.

I love film but this film needs directorscut/extended version because some scenes are out of place.

Surgery is fucking disaster. She do it in 2 min with 30 second of escaping. It's stupid.
How she free herself is also stupid. bang bang two big men fall.

Whole thing with falling alien ship was stupid.

Team created and who discover upon reaching other members is too stupid to even acnowelage it. They should add some scene about matching characters or other psycho mumbo jumbo or just some explenation from captain that system choose them from list of people.

It looks like longer film cut to shorter one.

BTW i love that they didn't call it Alien5 or other Alien.

Vaguely Prometheus related. Theron and Fassbender did a covershoot for W magazine together:

Fassbender looks like Roy Batty's long lost prototype in that pic. Awesome.

Lindelof looks like David Cross. Every interview from him will be read as Tobias.

Just came from watching Prometheus.

It's a shame we had to wait near two months to watch it here in Spain.

Fucking. Loved. It.

And I'm aboard the theory of Theron being a robot. An alpha version of David with no self-conscience of being an artifical being.

What evidence is there to even back up this theory? I can't recall anything that would suggest that.

Well, she seems relatively emotionless, the captain suggests it (but it seems to be mostly a way to get in her pants), and Alien had a secret robot.

But I'm pretty sure the idea in the movie is that she's that way because her father shows more affection for a robot than her, so she compensates by being more robotic to gain his affection.

Wow. I like this idea.

The scene where Weyland and David wake up the engineer is the best scene so far in a film this year, for me at least. The score is what brought it alltogether, it was like witnessing something legendary, and when the engineer went berserk it did not fail to deliver.

Hey guys just saw the movie and have few questions:

- what was the very first scene in the movie about? The one with The Pilot drinking the gooey black stuff near the waterfall.
- why Fifield has been made a "zombie" and not killed outright
- why didn't Millburn turn into a "zombie"
- did the galaxy map show many planets where The Engineers had spawned life or just earth?
- on what did the fetus remove from dr Shaw womb feed in the laboratory?
- why did The Pilot head explode in the lab? Because it was the same process as near the waterfall just being continued?

The black substance was used to break down the engineer and create human life.

He was exposed to the black substance which has different effects depending on how it is used and what it comes in contact with.

Milburn was killed by that worm like creature (remember the worms in the room that were exposed to the black substance) but not directly exposed to the substance himself.

Not sure.

Charlie (infected when David but some of the substance in his drink) planted his seed in Shaw who gave birth to it and must have been able to grow without feeding.

I believe it was a result of them trying to get it to move and not because of the black substance (reason why the engineer at the beginning died).

EDIT: I could be wrong on some of those (watched it once and that is what I can remember) so anyone can feel free to correct me.

Thanks.

Another thought: if The Engineers on the LV232(???) planet were wiped out 2000 years ago why didn't anybody from their original planet come to their rescue? For sure they weren't the last living Engineers in the universe? And if not Alpha Rescue Squad why didn't they send tourists to the planet? Yes tourists: like we on Earth go and see the ancient Mayan temples etc. After all it happened 2000 years ago so The Engineers on their original planet MUST HAVE evolved, like we humans did, for another 2000 years. So the tech on the LV232 planet was kinda ANCIENT for them then.

Basically I am just wondering what happened with The Engineers species after the massacre on LV232 planet 2000 years ago. What did their "CIA, FBI" do during all that time? Why didn't they come back to the planet? Was it a disclosed, military location?

Sorry if I don't make much sense :)

very disappointing movie

there was almost more bad than good in this movie. The not-Aliens Aliens and Engineers looked terrible, the zombie scene was ridicules. I did like Mark Wahlberg, "Stringer" and the medibay scene though

the sequel could be rather interesting however, if they really fly to the Engineer home world

you really thought the engineers looked terrible?
i thought they looked fucking great

although it's still disappointing that the space jockey design was redone to be more practical and humanoid

thats a guy in a costume..

edit: and i just meant the engineer(without his suit) design in general. i think its super creepy and awesome

but i wish it WASNT the space jockey. cuz look at that fucking thing. wish they could have had the engineers be something else instead of redesigning the space jockey to have normal proportions

Finally watched it and I love it, now that I know they will do another one, I'm not going to complain about the 1.000.000 things they didn't explain because they will do it in the sequel (I hope), but other things in the movie can't be explained because they are retarded and come from a sitty script, I can't believe the director or anyone in the movie didn't think it was weird that
a woman can run and roll and do this action hero things after a massive alien cesárea
.

This shit gets thrown around WAY too much on the internet. "Oh, I know it's a guy in a suit, but he still looks like CG to me" Such a non-legit complaint.

I recall reading that they actually ended up using CG there, either completely replacing the guy in the suit, or at least enhancing him in someway because they weren't happy with the suit on screen.

Late to the news of Prometheus 2 being already in the works, possibly without Lindelof. Really looking forward to this.

At the start of this summer I thought Prometheus would be likely to disappoint and Rises would be a safe bet for movie of the summer, but it turned out the other way around for me.

Saw it yesterday, was hard to avoid spoilers for all these months.

My impressions:

-amazing visual design and execution. One of the most visually impressive science fiction movies I've seen.
-characters are quite interesting, highlights being Dave, Vickers and the captain... especially his great pickup line "are you a robot?"
-I liked the way the movie didn't spell out everything like most movies would. Reminded me a lot of the original Alien
- the creation/evolution aspect of life and the "why create and then abandon" aspect of the movie was a great metaphor to humans ambitions to both improve our own nature as well as create new life (either naturally by birth or by engineering it) I didn't see it as a way of incorporating the lunatic intelligent design crap, but more about how religious motives and skewed bias can interfere with science (Shaw being convinced the gods/engineers were inviting them instead of going with the more scientific theory that this is merely a map)
-I loved the evolution/morphing of the small worms, deconstructed by the black agent and restructured to become those great looking cobra like things.
-the proto facehugger bears a lot of design cues with the one found in Alien. The fangs that administer the poison in the old facehugger are tentacles on this. Note how the engineer just stopped moving once they grabbed his head, while up until this point he was shown wrestling and almost winning.
- I found vickers/Weyland/David dynamic to be another great allegory to natural creation/artificial creation and parental attention.

The only thing that was bugging me a bit was the pace. I found the movie would've been indefinetly better had they focused more on the middle part of the movie, the attack of the squid and zombie geologist and the infection of holloway.

Overall I found it to be an amazingly ambitious movie, even though they were a bit too straight forward with their themes and not ambiguos enough.

good impressions, fabricated.

Nice to hear a reaction that isn't soaked with negativity and disappointment. Personally it's been my most enjoyable mainstream film of the year thus far.
Can't wait for the follow-up and I hope Ridley just goes balls-out with it. Get Giger working full time. ;)

Probably the worst movie i've seen in years. And i'm not even an alien fan. I didn't go for Alien. But I expected beforehand to only be a small cameo at some point.

Honestly, it's a very bad movie, both in characters and plot. And the 3D effect felt like it vanished quickly.

PS: Of course if I dont try to connect the dots it gets better. But as soon as you think on every detail they hard-pressed into the movie, contradicting what the previous one could try to mean, but yet none is answered or even detailed... it looks like an elaborate fanfiction and that's it.

I guess Giger is a bit too old for working full time, but yeah, I would love to have him do more work on a sequel.

Really enjoyed the movie and I'm actually quite surprised to see people reacting so negatively on it... then again this is the internet, where everyones taste is the ultimate standard, so I shouldn't really be that surprised.

it's just that almost everything was incoherent. When one thinks that something makes a bit of sense, they step all over it later in the movie. Not to mention that they have these fodder characters that act stupid, despite technically being clever. Probably the robot is the one acting more like a clever, yet probably a bit weird since you can't understand why he does what he does, human.

Ohhhh alien albino snake that is acting aggresively, let's try to reach it with the hand.
