I've never had a problem with Nintendo hardware, so this never occured to me. I'll do it when I pick up my own system.

You've been lucky then. I had to replace 3 Wiis before I realized they were dying because leaving Wii Connect enabled melted the graphics chip. One DS Lite just fell into pieces in my hand as I played it because of faulty hinges (these hinge issues were widespread and are why we now have a 3DS with very loose hinges to the point that top screen essentially flops about), had to replace my original black 3DS because the simple act of closing the lid scratched the top screen. Nintendo hardware is far from infallible. The tact of opening it in store doesn't work for everyone, especially those of us who order online. Fortunately Nintendo's customer service is good for replacements (it's absolute shit if you want to transfer purchases from one 3DS to another and have lost your original 3DS though).

1:1 looks good but there's so much black space around it it kinda defeats the purpose. I guess if you don't care too much about the scaling you can play DS games on it, but I wouldn't recommend getting it for playing DS games. Original DS should be kept for this purpose!

Jaded? Nope. Just realistic. I don't hold Nintendo to a higher or lower standard than any other company. The 3DS failed to impress me after the success of the DS. Shitty hardware specs, tiny screens, all built around what I think is a lousy gimmick. The XL looks to correct some of that. At least enough of it so that I can enjoy my DS library on a large screen again. I'm not going to shine them just because they're Nintendo. I'm also not ripping them because they're Nintendo. I rip them because they deserve it.

For what it's worse, I stupidly got rid of my DSi XL when I bought a 3DS and was incredibly disappointed with how DS games looked on the 3DS, but as more and more time passed I forgot how good the DS titles look on the XL and now they seem OK on the 3DS (expanded, not 1:1 because that's just stupidly small). 1:1 is definitely more viable on the XL, but I'm used to how the games look expanded so I can't wait to play them that way still.

Yep, Vita is awesome hardware. Everything the 3DS should have been in terms of tech specs. I'm not a big fan of Mario Kart. Never was big in to racing with the exception of San Francisco Rush and Diddy Kong Racing on the N64. Good times playing split screen and exploring the tracks. Oh, and Beetle Adventure Racing was awesome.

You sure about that? I recently went in the past week to see how much my 64gb 4th gen touch was worth, the lady told me it was only worth 136. I know I can get at least $250 on ebay so I definitely declined on that offer.

Nintendo store in Melbourne had a silver model in, for any Aussies wanting to check it out.

Was awesome! Screens were so massive :O at first they felt a bit pixel-y but I expected that. Once I held it a bit further back to accommodate for bigger screen it looked much nicer. 3D was better too, as were the buttons.

I got a 2nd 3DS XL as the first one I bought is going to get sent back for a refund because of the dead pixel.

The new one has no dead pixels but definitely has a more yellow tint on the top screen with both 3DS XLs at full brightness & power saver turned off.

If I had a choice I would want to exchange it to get the perfect version but I don't believe its something that will bother or be noticed by most people.

Well if you are a new user, you start off with 500 ptz instatntly. Linking your twitter and facebook accounts net you another 250 each. Then for the rest basically you earn points by "grabbing decals" (finding an item in their store and press the grab it" button) for 10 ptz each and uploading your own "decals" (read: random pictures) for 15 ptz each. It's a grindfest all the way up, but I managed to stop at around 1800 to get 15% off (you can get 16% off for 2000 points but I thought I might spare myself the time for just $2).

Well, its not quite convincing to me. :/

The guys is just checking it very quickly with his window as a light source, the scratches produced by the bottom screen should be very thin so you would need a much more powerful and concentrated source of light to see them.
