Fighting Games Weekly | August 13-19

Perhaps TTT2 is the clean slate then? People will draw more associations to that than SFxTK.

Not at all. TTT2 is following TTT which gives it a lot of goodwill or initial interest. TTT2 won't clean the slate for TxSF though. TxSF won't have all of the baggage, but it lost the novelty factor that SFxT had. ie. The first SF v. T

And it left the public with another issue. The 2 franchises simply are too different. A Capcom game is still a Capcom game and a TxSF that would appeal to Tekken fans wouldn't appeal to Capcom fans.

I recently got SFxTK and its very playable online, and there's a lot of people playing it. Its kinda hard to gauge how many people actually like the game cos chances are they don't go on and on about it. Playing for a couple of nights tho, its looks like there's a fair amount of people into it, and probably easier to find matches than tonnes of games that don't cop any hate.

Dieminion saying people who hate SF X T hate it because they are sheep

http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2012/...se-does-and-most-havent-given-it-enough-shot/

I'm just watching this and I mostly agree with Die about the RAW HATE SFxT gets. Sure, lots of things are wrong with the game but I think that people overreacted to many things. I would say that most games have had a second/third chance(even outside capcom, anyone remembers the first Guilty Gear for PS1?) and most people can't really tell the difference between "I don't like it" and "it's bad". That said, I don't know if the game at its current state can be "fixed" since right now it seems like what capcom wants is thousands of miles away from what vocal people want. Finally, I've seen worse games get a lot less hate, they are mostly ignored.

And I wouldn't worry too much about TxSF, all it'll take is a pre-release vid with tekken-style graphics, small stages and 80% damage fast juggle combos and people will love it.

PS: yeah, I'm trying to make it up to all the time I haven't been posting and the baby's not at home, feel free to flame me to death if you want :D

Is tonight's Salty Battles all Persona? Been waiting for Marvel with it on mute for a lot of the time for the past few hours.

Is the tourney over? I was watching a bad Predator imitation and missed pools.

edit: Nvm, just noticed Winner Round in the middle.

Hmm just realize that a new generation of consoles would probably force a new SF game. What would become of Marvel is new systems are not backward compatible?

Avengers is Marvel's biggest hit yet. I think a MvC4 can only be to our advantage, and is something we can bet on.

Eh, I don't think fighting games in general are so affected by generational leaps, since players will keep playing whatever the newest titles are. See: MvC2's lifespan. Arcades helped build that kind of mentality. You don't have such a steady stream in the genre like you do with say shooters or sports games for that to be an issue.

Marvel will be hurt once SF5 comes out (Ono reckons in the next five years), but nothing else will hurt it that we know of.

Yeah, I'd expect it on the next generation. Marvel was very happy w/ how the game came out.
Yup, I'd bank on it too. Capcom reps reiterate that Marvel peeps were pretty happy with (U)MvC3.

I think Capcom knows what it's doing when it comes to releasing fighting games, outside of the unfortunate timing of UMvC3/SFxTK which is in part Marvel's fault.

Wow, Chris G and that "bad" matchup... is it that bad?

It must be the whiniest hobby on the planet.

NO IT WAS A BAD MATCHUP AND MY CHARACTER IS LOW TIER AND THERE WAS NETWORK AND INPUT LAG AND THE STICK WAS BROKEN AND I NEED MY HEADPHONES AND THIS GAME SUCKS

Mitsu vs liz is supposedly 7-3. She can coup all day and liz has poor options against it. Also to consider that mid screen mitsu 5A can poke her and persona break all day.

Hopefully Chris G can air throw his way to a win.

I'm liking this Persona game, first time I'm watching it. Seems like a Jojo/BB mixup.

*googles "persona break"*

Who wins between Chris Hu vs Ultra Chen?

I hope Chris G had time to talk with someone about that bad matchup and maybe he'll buy the game sometime soon.

Also, how old is LordKnight? Seems way too young!

Whoa, this is looking worse than vanilla AE Yun vs Sim...

You know Ricky probably attracted those girls right? Ricky picks up more chicks than any other dude in the FGC.

Funny story, me and my guy were chilling at this bar at the cosmo, and my boy points out a guy wearing heels, this was EVO weekend. I told my friend I recognized him, now I'm not the type to approach players just because they're GDLK, but I tried to talk to him in hopes of meeting the girls he was with(they were BAD). No dice though, he was salty as fuck, wasn't taking the losses earlier very well.

A couple of other events this week:

Friday is the start of 2nd TOPANGA LEAGUE (A), SSFIV AE:

Sako (Ibuki)
Haitani (Makoto)
Uryo (Sakura)
Mago (Fei Long)
Kazunoko (Yun)
Fuudo (Fei Long)
Umehara (Ryu)
Momochi (Cody)
Bon-chan (Sagat)
Eita (Akuma) - from B League
YHC-Mochi (Dhalsim) - from B League
Kyabetsu (Viper) - from B League

The format is slightly different this time around. The online portion, which is a round robin, is mostly the same as it was in the first league, though at the end result, 11th and 12th automatically drop to B League and don't participate in the offline portion. The offline portion also using a round robin, first with 5th-10th then with 1st-6th. I guess that means that the two top players from the "lower" offline league can advance to the "upper" one. Instead of using 2/3 sets of FT10, matches are now one FT10 set, still with deuce rules (most have a two-game advantage to claim a set).

As usual, it's a pay stream, 400 yen (500 if you buy the day of) for single days or 3200 yen (~40 USD) (3500 if purchased the day of) for the entire 12-day package. And yeah, I bought it. (´・ω・`)

If you want to buy the full package, and know how do so, you can find it here:

TOPANGA starts at 8AM EDT on Fridays and Saturdays, 7AM on Sundays.

Saturday is Mix Up Night #5, P4U. This time around there's only one tourney, for Persona 4 Arena. Held once again at your familiar Osaka maid café, CCOcha. The tournament is scheduled to start at 10AM EDT. Coincidentally it does overlap slightly with TOPANGA for that day, if you're the type to watch both.

Chris G really does not understand the concept of a bad matchup.

Basically this. How come he doesn't feel that way when he locks down certain character that can do nothing but block against morri doom? O wait because he is winning thats why. Then you have to pick another character "you dummy"

I know, but I can't turn it off on the stream. It makes things harder to follow for people unfamiliar with the game.

They do explain some of what's going on as well (like status effects and such), so it's not a complete wash.
Really though, the only thing you're missing out on seeing is the Burst, nothing else pertaining to gameplay is obstructed.

RayRay has been trying to make Dante work on his B team for a while.

I think Ray Ray is thinking that Dante the better choice in the long run. Especially with drones, or Magnus assist. They both work well for Dante. Jam session works well for Sentinel as well. It seems to scale too much for Magnus, but still helps him gets hit I supposed.
